What is your motor oil and filter preference?

unfortunately they have not released an oil filter for the 3.3 yet.

I’m using royal purple 10w40 XPR with stock filter but it’s daaam expensive haha

How much oil did you put in? requirements calls for 7.29 quarts for the GT engine. Did you do 7 or 7.5? Just wondering how folks are measuring 7.29 quarts.

Just start by putting in 6 quarts or so first. Then just use your oil dip stick to measure the oil level, that is what it’s for. Pour the remainder oil slowly after that and check your oil level via the dip stick to make sure is on the full marking.

Remember it’s easier to pour oil than remove oil if you overfill.

I agree, put in less than expected, run the engine a little, let it settle and check the level.

My oil extractor goes thru the dip stick tube and has an accurate scale, so I tend to put in close to what I take out, but I still stop a little short and check it. Of course, I also check the level before I start to make sure it's where it should be before I remove the oil..

I used to regard Mobil I as a really good bang-for-the-buck synthetic. THEN I bought a Subaru.. Subaru FI does NOT like Mobil I. Goes through it like crack. 1.5+ quarts in 500 miles, etc.. Ever since my first close call, I've been doing Pennzoil Platinum / Ultra 5w30. Lately, since it's so cheap and the car is oldish (140k+ miles), I've been doing Castrol Magnatec.

Penzoil ultra platinum 5w30, made from a natural gas base, really keeps the engine clean. Any quality synthetic will be more than adequate. Lots of guys on bitog are getting great oil analysis numbers from amazon basics synthetic oil. It’s made by Warren mfg, very good oil and on sale right now for $17 per jug.

A3/C3 oil in 0w40 format would be by far the best quality and provide exceptional protection for the fire breathing 3.3tt
Because A3/C3 grade in 0w40 tends to have high percentage of PAO as base oil

Not sure why 0w40 is not recomended???

The only benefit of A5 over A3/C3 is a tiny immeasurable fuel economy gain

.29 quarts is just over 9 ounces. I keep an empty qt jug with a mark at 9 ounces and use that as a measure.

Just bought Amsoil signature and oem filter for its first service. Do more people not use Amsoil because it's expensive? I don't understand?

You'll never get 100 percent of the existing oil out on a change. Drain the oil and remove/replace the filter, then put the plug back in and refill with a little over 6 liters/quarts. Start and warm the car, then shut it off and let the oil drain back for a few minutes. Check it on the dipstick and top up as necessary.

I just did my 1 year change using Mobil 1 5W-30 and the OEM KIA filter (an excellent quality filter made by Mahle, same as many BMWs). KIA doesn't recommend 0W oil for the V6, which certainly would better the fuel economy if they thought it suitable - don't second guess their engineers.

As a side note referencing earlier posts, the oil plug in the AWD cars is well ahead of the crossmember, and drains cleanly without interference. I won't be purchasing a Fumoto or similar 'convenience' valve as removing the drain plug is not an involved process. Reaching up to remove the oil filter cap and filter through the hole in the underbody pan, while then getting the drain pan underneath quickly, is tricky without making a mess.

There are two plastic push rivets used, one in the centre of the underbody pan, and one in the rotating insert under the oil filter. If you are careful with removal they can be re-used, but are never as tight as when first installed. Ideally you should buy a package from your local auto supplier - they are cheap. Get a plastic rivet 'fork' tool to make removal easier. The other body pan bolts were 10mm, the oil plug 17mm, and the plastic oil cap 27mm.

I'll continue to use the OEM/Mahle filters, and will use whatever quality full synthetic 5W-30 that meets the KIA spec is on sale at the next oil change interval. If it's Castrol or Valvoline next time, then that's what it will be. I don't use Amsoil, Red Line, etc. as I don't believe them to provide any significant benefits to justify the price premium.

So it's just price then.

I've never considered it because it's not proven to be better than other brands.

Isn't it?

Whatever the manual says big homie! Us Aussies are pussies!

Such a lovely attitude...

I will be running Penrite 10 Tenths in mine (I run it in my current car) - it is a full synthetic PAO/ester based oil (not a cracked synthetic). 5W30 is the recommendation from Kia in Australia I believe, but I may run 5W40 or even 0W40 once I get a feel for things and depending on conditions. Oil will get swapped out every 5,000km.

I will also be running an EZ Oil Drain Valve (it doesn't appear that Fumoto US have a listing for the Stinger, though I suspect it's the same as all other Kia cars since 2000 - this one.

Filter brand - undecided as yet. I've traditionally run OEM filters on my cars, unless there's a specific advantage to using something else.

I have used Liquimoly New generation and WIX filter WL10237
