I thought I would start a new thread to get people to discuss what their previous performance rides were. For some people, the Stinger may be their first performance car, but for old farts like me there might be a rich interesting history of past vehicles that have led you up to this point.

I will start with my own history.
The first car I would call "performance" started out as a 1967 Ford Galaxy 500. It was just a car during my senior year of high school to get me around. After I graduated, I started doing some work on it. I eventually wound up with a rebuilt 390 V8 (FE block) with a Holley carb. I rebuilt the tranny (C6) myself with upgraded clutches and steels and put in a B&M high stall TC. The rear was a 9" Detroit locker with 4.11 gears. Used to hang around the street racing circuit in San Fernando Valley (SoCal) on Saturday nights.

I got more mellow for several years (family more important you know), and my next performance car was a 1998 Ford SVT Mustang Cobra (4.6l all aluminum 32v DOHC V8). I kept that stock for some time until the engine lost a piston. I had the engine rebuilt with all forged internals and stroker crank. Because this probably resulted in a 350lb-ft torque exceeding the stock T45 tranny (rated 330) and those T45's were crap anyway, I fit in a Tremec TKO tranny. Upgraded the clutch system from 10.5" to 11", aluminum flywheel, aluminum driveshaft. This car was a kick to drive, when the IMRC opened up, it feels like a turbo kicking in.

I eventually gave that car to my son, but for the last few years missed having a performance car. I got an Optima 2 years ago, mainly for commuting, but now with Covid and working from home, that isn't a concern. Always liked the Stinger and now I have one.

I was always a ford guy, and like the new Mustangs. Wish I could afford a Shelby.
I didn't mention them before because they are less of a performance car than the Cobra, but I also had a 1985 Mustang GT and a 1986 Mustang GT. I never mod'ed them though and only kept them a couple years.

Never owned "real" performance car but mostly tuned sedans to a resonable performance level

I never had a performance car, as in modded, but I did get my father-in-law's Monte Carlo in my first year of mawwiage. It saddened me that our finances could not afford to keep it.

Here's a pic of the same model and color, taken from the Net:

Mazda Rx7, great running car, 5 on the floor. SS Camaro
Now the stinger

Had it for 10 years now (first car). My 03 mustang gt with way too many useless bolt-ons to list aha. Still haven’t lined it up with the Stinger but would be fun to see how it compares. Best 1/4 time was a 13 flat on street tires.92D4547F-38E8-4448-AA16-7541229CBD2C.webp

'93 RX7 with twin turbo........still haven't been in a vehicle that ran/handled as good as that car.....people always bring up the Supra from that time period and even though it was a tenth quicker 0-60, it still couldn't handle as well.....

same color, same wing, same wheels......

2005 Holden VZ SSZ, 5.7 litre LS1 Auto, I bought it new.
I modded it with cold air induction, four into one ceramic coated headers, high flow stainless steel cats, 2.5” mandrel bent exhaust, diff ratio changed to a Monaro/Pontiac GTO, dba slotted rotors, dyno tune & transmission re-map ended up a respectable RW 250kW (335hp).
