It is a jack point, an area you can safely raise the car from without damaging the sideskirts and underbody panels.

And if you're using a floor jack that doesn't have a split to straddle the pinch weld, get one of those V-shaped or slotted adapters to keep from crushing the weld.

So a dent in it doesnt really doesnt matter then.
The dent is a reminder to the owner that he (or the prior owner) did something silly. Plenty of cars with mangled pinch welds out there.

I guess if you really crush the thing to where the metal is buckled you might have to worry about corrosion/rust.

Are you talking about the 2 little notches in the pinch weld? If so those arent dents theyre like that right off the assembly line.

your supposed to slip the jack between those pinches.

No it has a third dent in it looks like from drop off a curb or something.

that isn't in the first picture. but my guess is that the jack was placed wrong. a drop off a curb that would bend that part of the frame would cause a lot more surrounding damage.

Wood block behind it, hammer taps in front, or a vise oughta straighten it out.

Lol.

That dent happened AFTER the first pic was taken... Was this planned?

I'd leave it as is. Wouldn't want to fatigue the metal any more.

... or a hockey puck with a slit cut in it!

Thats not going to harm anything and Id just leave it. Definitely looks like a shop raised the car a little further down the rocker than they should have. It has happened to many other members along with many who ended up with our sideskirts getting a dent in them.

I've always just cut a piece of 2x4 to fit on my floor jack perch. Wood is soft enough the pinch weld will press its own groove on it. I just make sure to place it cross-grain to the pinch weld. Same thing works just as good on trucks with frame rails. Easy to replace if a piece gets used long enough. I've done this for probably over 35yrs.
