What did you shop against the Stinger?

I'm after something with decent power, AWD, and sporty in the same price bracket as an AWD GT2.

Cross shopping:

2 year old Audi S6 or S7
3 year old Audi A8L 4.0T

These are easy to mod and quite fast and approximately the same cost as a new Stinger. The downside is the cost of insurance and repair costs. Nothing to be done about insurance, but I do almost all of my own repair/mod work so I'm not worried about that at all.

What other choices did you consider when shopping for your stinger?

Cheers!

I wouldn't get a used German car vs a new car from anyone else unless the German car is certified pre-owned. Even if you do your own repairs you're still having to buy expensive parts. And though it may be cheaper to do your own repairs to your German car it will still cost a lot more that the free parts and labor you'd get from a 10 yr 100k mile warranty.

German cars are somewhat expensive to maintain. I've owned a half dozen Audi's in the past and modded them all. :) I never got bitten by a big ticket repair, but that is a distinct possibility. My pain point here is that it is painless to get a 4.0T engine well into 500-600hp (or more) and the quattro drivetrain is pretty robust. You mention some pluses of the Stinger/G70 route. My current issue is that the tuning ecosystem is relatively new and it's more of a hassle/art to get close to the same power and acceleration. You and I both know the warranty is history (regardless of the manufacturer) if there's even a hint that the car was modded and you take it to a dealer for a big ticket repair. :)

Cheers!

1989 Nissan Skyline GTs-4
Other than that there is no car I would want.
The stinger came out of left field (as I did not know about all the hype)
I told my wife I had a new car I wanted to look at, she was excited for something with saftey features. And it drove so well and quick that I could forgive kia for keeping it an auto.
I love the stinger.
And I will have my skyline at some point too.

Interesting list. I've owned an S4 (loved it) and currently own a Scatpack Charger (love it...just not in the winter). I also considered the Fusion Sport for a bit, but didn't see much in the way of tuning available yet. A lot of the tuning for the ecoboost engines is centered on Ford pickups. I also found the interior, even in the top trims to be rather cheesy and full of rough plastic.

Cheers!

Alfa Giulia Ti Sport
BMW 440i Gran Coupe

Really wanted the Alfa, but it was too expensive, the interior in the Kia was better and the Kia had more space.

Yeah i wasnt a big fan of the interior either, especially the rotary gear selector, when i tested its performance i was seriously disappointed. An awd stinger would definetly be a good choice for you based in your likings and needs. Are u planning to mod at all?

If the past is any judge, I'd have to get the 3.3L into the 400-450hp (at the wheels) arena. Color me a modder. :)

I was looking at:

Audi RS3
BMW M2c
Jaguar F-Type

Test drove the Stinger to get a friend off my back about it. Fell in love halfway through the test drive, and saved myself at least $20k.

Test driving this car will sell you on it. For the cost and what you get, it's an easy choice.

I was also heavily considering the Alfa Romeo Giulia Ti Sport, but I had questions about AR's reliability and whether they'd still be in the USDM in five years.

Interesting thing is that the Giulia would have been less expensive here since they just don't sell. I could have gotten that car, which lists similarly to the GT2, for under $40k.

M4 and C43 AMG. Drove the Lexus RC-F but couldn't get past the ugly.

Considered the Quad version but NO legroom with drivers seat where I need it, and only one dealer in ATL area in a very inconvenient part of town.

Just got my 2019 GT1 last night. Live in Florida and have had 3 RWD cars before and never had a problem so went with RWD on the Stinger GT1. Turned in my 2016 Lexus IS 350 F Sport yesterday, for reference on what I had before.

I test drove:

2019 Genesis G70 (work for a Hyundai dealer as a Finance Manager and they brought in a demo for the sales guys to get familiar with)

2018 Genesis G80 5.0
2018 BMW 440i Gran Coupe
2018 Audi S5 Sportback
2018 Audi A5 Sportsback
.....and a new Ford-150 Lariat too LOL

Stinger not only was the best value by far, I liked how it drove better than all of them except the S5, but the S5 is $$$$ more and a buddy had a 2015 S4 that was in the shop more than on the road, so Stinger came home with me.

Any twin turbo station wagon, oh wait.. they don't exist in America.

4 seats, room for baby stuff, (hatchback/wagon), 400hp. Stinger is closest I'm going to get.
Really isn't much competition for about $40k.
