What Dash cam do you use for your stinger?

I have the 360 system, hitting the camera button on the center console only turns the cameras on if speed is below 5mph. Does it work differently when you only have a backup camera or is there a different mode I'm unaware of?

You don't have a camera button when you only have a backup camera, it just comes on automatically when you shift into reverse.

Hands down one of the best cams for the price and stupid easy to hardwire. Approximately $150 for cam hardwire kit, and fuse taps.

Agree, been using Viofo A119 now going on 3 years everyday. Great value and performance. Easy to install and almost invisible when looking in from windshield. Kia Tech's don't even notice it when servicing car, has provided some great entertainment.

Perhaps the AUS version is different but here under normal driving speed conditions hitting that button brings up a rear only view and stays on until deactivated.

This Blackvue Cloud dual camera ad popped up in something I was watching. For US$50 (AU$80) it seems too good to be true so I'm wondering "what's the catch".
The 4K UHD wide-angle lens dash CAM features a built-in WIFI dashboard and GPS
In AUS it retails for $599 (US$380)

I sent an email to the seller with some specific questions about make, model, and inclusions and just received a reply. Turns out the product bears no resemblance to what was advertised. The seller sent a photo of what one would receive>

I only have a backup camera on my GT2, with no camera button. I've never noticed it not working above 5 mph, but I don't know that I have ever gone faster than that backwards. I certainly haven't really tried to exceed the 167 forward either.

Must be a 2018 correct? My 2020 has a camera button.

If anyone is curious, there is plenty of room to install a Blackvue b-124x in the trunk, along with a b-124e expansion battery pack. I used foam pipe insulation as padding for the packs, and zip tied it all in place.

I wired it into the rear fuse sub panel, I tapped into the rear heated seat fuse, but also used a relay hooked up to the fuel pump wire (green wire) so the packs can recharge via remote start. Accessory isn't turned on when you remote start, so if you just use a fuse tap on Acc, it won't recharge when remote started...

Is it wireless to the front camera so one dont have to pull a wire to the front to record etc?

Nope! This guide shows pretty much how to run the wires, you just need to run the power up from the battery back up through the rear sub junction box and follow the rear camera wire to the front. It's long enough to reach.

Update: The fuel pump relay I tapped into is activated during evap testing. This means it will blip on for about a minute, once an hour, for 5-10 times after you shut off the car. If you wish to avoid this use a relay that can sense voltage and only turn on above ~13V (when the alternator is on).

It's still the best way I've found to have something trigger when the car is remote started, without running wires from the front of the car.

I recently bought the Nexar beam dash cam 2x for my wife and I. Simple setup through pillars, under steering wheel. 1080P, overlap storage, unlimited cloud storage, wifi anywhere accessible. (File too large to upload) sorry.

Let me know what you think of the Nexar so far.

Owl Cam looked promising but in my research I didn't like the misc extra costs; also some reviewers mentioned that some features weren't as functional as the marketing made it seem (e.g. the parking mode had issues even though it's supposed to deter burglars and efficiently record to the cloud in case the cam is stolen). My neighborhood is known for car and home burglaries unfortunately despite the area being high end so cloud storage and overnight parking security is key for me. I'll likely eventually go with Blackvue DR900S-2CH with Power Magic Pro Hardwire Kit 2-Channel

Gotcha. The nexar unit i own does not record any longer after 5 minutes of the engine being off. So no help if it gets broken into or hit after 5 minutes. The blackvue unit was my other option if my wife did not care about the costs of both lol.

I have been using this ToGuard mirror cam in my Alltrack, but will probably change to something else for the Stinger. The mirror quality in this was a little disappointing. It was fine when I had a wall of glass behind me. I'd love to find something similar, but with a better mirror.

Yesterday I noticed my dashcam stopped working, after some troubleshooting I found that my ground connection was poor.

If you use the rear fuse box stud as a ground point, I highly recommend cleaning it up with a steel brush before use (see photo).

Also, if anyone else taps into the fuel pump wire to turn on their dash cam... Like I mentioned before be aware the car will energize the fuel pump during evap testing, which occurs 5-6 hours after parking. This would turn on the dashcam, start charging my battery packs, and draw down the main battery a little bit. I actually got a warning about it on my infotainment that "something" was drawing my battery down while parked, but it did not actually drain it enough to cause any problems in 1-2 weeks of being parked (covid).

As a solution, I wired a power magic pro in before my B-124X charging relay, with a diode to bump the voltage it shuts off at upwards. Normally, a power magic pro will shut off at around 12.5 volts. By adding a diode in series with the supply, it bumps it to ~13.2V, meaning that my B-124X will only charge when the car is on and running.

In an effort to simply my setup, I replaced my Power Magic Pro and normal relay with a 10 second delay relay hooked to my fuel pump relay. These delay relays are commonly used to delay HID ballast startup on retrofitted cars. They are about $6 from aliexpress, $15 on amazon, or $60 from Hella.

This filters out all evap testing, and it also filters out an extra on off fuel pump blip I noticed during push button starting, but it will still allow charging of the dashcam batteries while remote started.

I'm sure every car is different, but all of my fuel pump blips on my stinger were under 2 seconds, so a 10 second delay covers it all without being unpleasantly long.

A 10 second startup delay is probably a decent idea anyway since the Blackvue parking mode battery pack charger is a pretty heavy draw.

I got the same Blackvue dash cam for front and rear and I absolutely love it so far (cloud storage, great footage, durable build quality, and easy to use). LA gets super hot in the summers and it has held up so far too. Such easy installation on top of it all (mine is plugged into the backseat lighter socket which I found allowed me to conceal the wires better). I do have Blackvue's Power Magic EZ adapter as well but it's collecting dust on my shelf bc my JB4 is plugged into my OBD port. For anyone reading this who isn't familiar with this dash cam, Blackvue's Power Magic EZ allows the cameras to safely get battery juice from the car when the car is off which allows the cams to double up as parking security cameras. Wow I sound like a spokesperson for the brand. Anyways I imagine the set up for the Power Magic EZ was easy too right?

Oh and the wires were so easy to hide (admittedly I did watch a few Youtube tutorials first) that my passengers don't even notice that I have a dash cam at all. Ok now Blackvue needs to pay me for my shilling.
