What are your likes and dislikes with your Stinger?

I do not (yet) live in a totalitarian country with everything dictated by eco-communists, so while I sympathize with the freedoms Australians have forfeited, your rule list is not relevant. And your scenario about broken windows and your overbearing police state makes even less sense, as the point is to secure a running car.

99% of cars can be locked while running, and it's common behavior here in many scenarios: securing a pet, firearm, or laptop on a road trip, job site, etc with severe weather. Many work vehicles in places like Alaska and Texas are kept running entire shifts, as are police cruisers (with rifles and often K9s). The Stinger appears unique in not having that ability.
Let me point out that rules to keep people safe (kids dying in hot cars for example), and absolutely common sense to stop unattended fires, fuel waste and theft which costs you millions and millions is not totalitarian.

You however live in a totalitarian dictatorship. We don't have a President. We have the Westminster system that serves us well from the United Kingdom which you would have too should you not have separated from the Commonwealth from which you migrated like we. We have a Prime Minister who is elected by his party who is elected by the people. At any time, we can change that by popular opinion. We don't need an election to do it. We could have one two three Prime Ministers in the course of one 4 year parliament. We have a token head of State which is the King of England and his representatives in Australia, Governors and a Governor General who wield no power other than ceremonial.

You have a dictator who wants to jail his adversaries for no crime. You have a person who holds his Opposition to the highest standards whilst trashing those standards himself and when he finds one thing...............it gets 4 pages of news when hundreds of indiscretions and even crimes are ignored on his side.

We have an independent judiciary. A court appointment is INDEPENDENT. It can't be swayed by the appointment by a President that can change the verdict.

You have a totalitarian health system which is user pays and provider denies. We have a Universal health system paid for by 1% of everyone's salary, GOVERNMENT RUN that provides free Doctor and Surgeon visits to everybody, free public hospitals for operations. FREE FREE FREE. But if you want to, you can have private health insurance as well where you will get private rooms, Surgeons of choice in outstanding private hospitals.

If a woman wants an abortion she gets it. Nothing to do with GOVERNMENT and a Dictator who says NO.

You can have dual citizenship. You can't in the USA. You have to renounce your original country if you want to be a US citizen. So Totalitarian.

So before you worry about whether being told to secure your vehicle and not leave it running cos your dog might get hot is totalitarian, have a look at the regime you live under which quite frankly no-one in the rest of the world wants......

and.........no-one has a gun just like most of the rest of the world unless they are a police officer or a farmer and you would have to have a dam good excuse to even think about getting one and if you did have a gun. like the rest of the world, no-one would come near you because you would be considered a nut job, so enjoy looking at it by yourself......

CAR FORUM, bud. Obviously you could have started a conversation with the responder, but no, you have to bloviate to the wider world on a CAR FORUM. If you want to continue, do so off in a private corner somewhere. I won't report you, that is so totalitarian.

I'm here to talk Stingers, not to argue politics.

The only thing I dislike the Stinger is the fact that Kia sh!tcanned it.

For what I paid for ours, I can overlook a whole bucket of sins. Now, if I'd paid $55k+, I might feel differently.

he said..............I didn't even know until I read up on the Stinger that KIA was part of the Hyundai group

Probably wise to learn up a little bit more before coming in and providing a thousand posts on the subject in a CAR FORUM

Your an amazing non sequitur machine. Most of my posts are enquiries, including questions I never had before I got a KIA Stinger, questions I didn't know existed until I came here. I know enough about other things to keep my opinions to myself, on a car forum.

Likes:

The cars' power set up is nicely done and has a ton of upside if you choose to mod it.

Handling is really good and the car has real connection to the road.

It is a great car on the highway and rides smooth especially if you put a nice set of AS tires as we live in a place that has all seasons.

The car turns heads and since it didn't sell a ton of models compared to others, some people have no idea what it is.

Great tech that you can customize to your own liking and a great interior with plenty of space.

Cons:

They killed it. (I can understand why)

The center console feels a bit cheap.

Pilot Sport Tires from the factory that slip like bowling balls when the temps drop.

The overall dealership experience can be really shady.

Yes a boring response but after having many different muscle cars, trucks, coupes, SUVs
Etc. this one of the best cars I/we have ever owned so far. Looking forward to the journey with this car as it
is one we have been looking at for quite awhile and we are appreciative for the opportunity to
participate in this forum so we can learn more about it.

I would say hockey pucks, but I like the cut of your jib . So far the Conti DSW06+ have been good in sub 0C (sub 32F) temps, and it doesn't snow enough here to warrant a snow/winter tire.

I agree with the rest: any minor quibbles about the Stinger are just that--minor. The positives way outweigh the negatives: More then enough interior room to haul people or things. Good handling for its size. Has more than enough power to be fun when needed. Gas mileage is decent when you're on a road trip (for it's power and size). Comfortable on long road trips. And they look so damned sexy!

It's sad that they killed it off, but given the sales record, it's somewhat understandable.
Here is the teaser concept car they first put out in 2014.
The actual car that came out in 2018 is what we got, but can you imagine if they had put this concept car into production?

That concept car isn't the direct ancestor to the Stinger. The concept car in 2011 was the design that led to the Stinger. The name came from the GT4, though.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned one of the most annoying cons: black chrome looking like shit after only a few years. I cleaned mine up but I'll probably end up painting them black at some point. But besides that, the Stinger has been a great car.

Since I bought my Stinger new in 2020 Basically, besides the oil filter housing, the car has been nothing but reliable. But..........I was dropping off our Jeep Grand Cherokee for maintenance at the dealership got stuck behind a big semi, took a massive rock to the windshield, had the windshield replaced. A week later got shot at while driving to work on the freeway so I had a 9mm slug go through the rear bumper. While at the body shop getting a new rear bumper a huge hail storm came through, car got pummeled. Got fixed on their dime, they did a shitty job though was without the car for months until they finally sorted it out. Car got hailed on again this year, also took another rock chip to the "new" windshield a couple weeks ago. It just made an impact, hasn't cracked.......so far (fingers crossed). On top of that I blew out a tire earlier this year as well. I've just been very, very unlucky since I bought it, not the cars fault at all. Never had any of those things happen in any other cars I've owned besides getting a flat tire.

Anyways.......
These are some cons I have
(might be nitpicking on some).

Brake pads
(Recently upgraded mine to the K8ss and they are 100x better than stock, no more shuddering)

No fog lights
(have base gt, so no dynamic bending lights but if I had a gt2 I'd still want extra fog light/driving lights)

Can't fully turn off beep noises when unlocking/locking

Heated seats, heated steering wheel, rear window defrost doesn't come on when remote starting the car
(seriously what's the point then?)

Remote start only runs for 10 minutes
(Currently it's 3 with -5 wind chill, 10 minutes is not enough time)

Oil filter housing design

Exhaust tips mounted in rear bumper instead of having bumper cutouts

Exhaust tips not being fully connected to exhaust

Stock exhaust sounds a bit weak
(I know, I know, it's not a sports car)

Ridiculously heavy stock wheels

Having all the "special editions" that are just aesthetics and no actual upgrade in hp. Sunset yellow, gts, Indigo Blue, Scorpion, Grand Tourer (love that interior though) Tribute, not one has say... 400hp

Fake hood vents ;)

2022 GT2:

Dislikes:
- Stock exhaust is weak IMHO. This car's German competitors (Audi S5, BMW M440i Grand Coupe) all have better stock exhaust sounds. Even the Stinger's new 2022+ valved exhaust was too underwhelming for me. I ended up getting a Borla and am very happy with it, but I would have loved a better stock sound.

- Gas mileage isn't great compared to the BMW M340i/M440i cars. I'm in a region with a lot of hills, so it's near impossible to hit the EPA standards for the Stinger unless I've driving in ECO mode and very conservatively. Ultimately I know it's just a sporty sedan and I could have gotten something much better on mileage, but I wish it was slightly better. Also wish the gas tank could take 2 to 3 more gallons.

- No wireless Android Auto or Apple Car Play. Kia has added this to their newer vehicles. Wish they would have added it sooner or retroactively add it to this car.

- Lack of LSD on the US AWD Stingers. Not sure why Kia cheaped out on making an LSD available for US AWD Stingers. You could only get the LSD on some the special editions here. Meanwhile north of us in Canada, the LSD is an option on their normal Stingers. Even the Genesis G70 AWD in the US gets an LSD option on the normal car.

- I still love the overall look/styling of the car, especially the rear end. I could probably go without the side reflectors but they don't bother me as much as others.

- Absolutely LOVE the liftback and huge trunk. It is such a practical car without having to go the SUV route. Make it a great vehicle if you're driving 3 passengers and their luggage on a road trip.

- This is my first car with many luxury features, and I think I've been spoiled. Love the heated/cooled seats, heated steering wheel and 360 camera. I find the radar cruise control to be pretty damn smart as well. I mainly only use it for road trips on the highway. If I'm commuting to work I don't bother (even on the highway).

- I love the stock power and the warranty. I have absolutely no desire to mod the car for more power. IMHO, it has more than enough power for street use. It can get up to illegal speeds so fast already, that I just don't see the point unless you regularly drag race at a strip. Stock, the car is still one of the fastest ICE sedans on the road in its price range. The only definitively faster sedans are Charger Scat Pack and BMW M340i/M440i

- It really was the perfect combo of price, practicality, performance and features. I do regret them dropping the base Stinger trim for 2022 onward because those could be had at a steal in previous years. But even with the base GT2 prices towards the end, you were getting a lot of car for the money. You'd need to spend about 10K+ more to get the same features from a German competitor.

I must agree with the Conti DS+W06, it was a great choice for this car in my neck of the woods. I will say that the Pilots were awesome in the summer and just

had super grip but I knew they would fade in the colder weather.

There is no description of how this works in the 545 page something online Stinger manual. The best you will find is"something" under EV6..........

From an Australian perspective the auto "heating" rarely activates at all. Because I am garaged in 20C it took 2 years for this to suddenly work automatically when I was parked outside, it was midnight and less than 10C outside in winter. I suddenly noticed the steering wheel getting warm and the heated driver seat working some time after driving away.

The automatic seat cooling works the same way. "Some time" after driving away, the seat cooling automatically switches ON, dependent on the outside temperature (somewhere above 22/23/24C and the inside set somewhere below 22/23/24C.

I have never been able to nail exactly when this switches on according to temperature either inside or outside. The algorithm seems to take care of it. I do notice the auto cooling activates most of the time the aircon is set to cool.

That is not the same for auto heating which has activated automatically now twice in 2 years......

So along with the automatic seat "cooling" there is an algorithm that measures inside temperature, outside temperature for heating before any of this shit works

So studying the tick box for daylight saving in the time date setting doesn't alter anything automatically. You set the tick box and it adds an hour, six months later you have to un tick it to lose that hour. Pretty dumb

Indeed. For the first couple of years I kept thinking that checking the box activated some automatic DST app and the time would advance or fall back accordingly - and between March and November I would forget. Ha hah. It didn't seem plausible that KIA would make me turn DST on/off. Why, with all the tech would that be necessary?

If Trump has his way, DST will be permanent and I can just leave the box checked permanently.
