Clicking noise when accelerating today and finally lots of black smoke from hood (and prob exhaust) with engine death and luckily I was able to immediately pull over - running and screaming until loud kaboom — I’m joking about the running and the explosion but everything else is true. I know I’ve been long overdue for oil but that oil light never came on (prob bc one should not rely on it) and my car never showed any signs of strain until today. Got about 28k miles. Ugh we’ll see. Maybe I’ll upload the dash cam footage for fun when I get it. I don’t know why I share such ignominy but hey I’m a masochist so let me hear it.

How long is long overdue?

Oil is over rated....

Edit; this thread did prompt me to check my oil. It's been about a month or two since the last check. Level same as last time, ~2-3 dots below the full mark when cold.

Reviewing the maint log, appears I last changed the oil ~11 months ago and 3200 miles ago. Will be changing it again sometime in june.

@op Check your oil level? Where was it?

Wait...what. You havent checked or changed your oil in 15-20k miles and you're running a tune? What in the world were you thinking...

Good question! I shall check tomorrow… When the car died I was luckily in the slow lane so I was easily able to swerve to park her on that street — a street which has free parking every day (rare in LA!). So I’ll get back to her tomorrow to get her towed since my day is now a mess. If she’s unfortunately stolen, well I guess it becomes a legitimate insurance claim then!

You can roast me better than that, cmon

Also folks, who truly knows if this oil related…I drive my Stinger real tame except maybe one or two quick 5 second pulls on the freeway once in a while — I somehow became a responsible driver in like the past 2 years…well most of the time! Anyways today’s fun came out of nowhere with zero signs of issue beforehand. I don’t drive my car every day either since I work from home. Anyhow, stay tuned…

I’ll be changing mine next week in a few days. I have about 300 miles left until rec. service. This is why I have 115,000 miles and zero issues.

(I just jinxed myself I know it)

Do your pretend Porsche a favor and change early. GDI-T engines are the Barbie girls in the domestic automotive verse.

I am legit referring to my Stinger moving forward as a pretend [or poor man’s] Porsche, that’s incredible and no sarcasm here

I usually change every 3k miles, even with using synthetic. Yes I know its a lot and blah blah blah. But the manual lists what's considered as severe usage and I fall under many of them and the last thing I want is for the stealership to claim that I didn't follow the severe maintenance schedule since that's what my entire area basically falls under.

Pretend porchse? No thanks. I will likely never own a german vehicle.

Also, engine in my car is port and direct injected, so hopefully in a cleaner state than just direct injected.

Lucky. Too bad they didn't put it into 3.3

^^Love hate relationship eh... At least with this entity there's no added expense to dispose of when done.
