Hey guys I was wondering if anyone has had this problem. So every time I start my car and press the brake for the first time I get a click sound. It doesn’t happen again until I turn off the car and restart it again, then press the brake for the first time. I can’t tell you when it started and I don’t think it’s the eiback front sway bars. Any suggestions or causes of the sound? Thanks!

Does it happen when stationary? If it happens when moving, does the "click" sound slow down with the car slowing down? Does the "click" sound occur the entire time that you press the brake pedal?

So it doesn’t happen stationary. When I press the brake to put the car in reverse I don’t hear the click. But when I start to move the car and I need to get to a full stop I hear the click once I press the brake and that’s the only time it does it. It doesn’t happen at any point during the drive. Then if I park the car, turn it off, on then get moving and have to stop for the first time I hear the click. Then never again.

You haven't clarified if the "click" is repeated or is a once-off noise.

Sticking/misaligned brake pedal switch?

What happens if you just slowly press the brake pedal without starting the car?

Normal start is to press and hold brake pedal then press start button. If this is happening as you press the pedal, try pressing it again, does it do it make a click?

My Pontiac G8 did it when I installed Brembo brakes on the front. There was just enough space for the brake pads to move fore and aft a tiny amount. I would hear it click, knock, etc once immediately after backing up and then shifting into the drive. The pad would move forward the tiny amount and then hit the side of the caliper slot for the pads.

Was going to say the same. It quite possibly Brembo pad shift. Completely normal.

^^How would pad fore/aft shift manifest itself in the brake pedal feel when stationary? I can see this as something one would feel when the car is moving one direction or the other but not when depressing pedal to start the engine.

When I slowly press the brake without starting the car I don’t get the click. I just tested it out again. I just reversed out my driveway, then the moment I put it in drive, go straight even at a low mpg and press the brake I get that click. Sounds like the left side brake area. Now I know they’re associated because it was raining like night and I get that slight grind sound when breaking. So the grind sound and the click happened at the same time. Any suggestions?

It always happens one time, the first time I press the brake when I turn off the car and turn on. Then never again until the car is turned off then driven again.

Once-off each time, sounds like a very minor mechanical play (like the brake pad fitment suggested above). As long as the brakes are working properly and you aren't living with a noise during operation, I would just tuck this in the back of my mind and leave it for now.

Check out the various brakes threads for possible solutions going forward (no pun intended :P): aftermarket pads on well bedded rotors will solve almost all manifesting brake shudder (should that arise; not borrowing trouble for you here).

As for hearing a grinding sound: the manual does say that noises during braking with "high performance Brembo brakes" is normal and to be expected (mine have been quiet for over 44K miles, still on the OEM brakes). But your "grinding" sound happened after a lot of rain, so is probably only grit thrown up from the road: it could be stuck in there, like gravel does sometimes: if you went through a big puddle that would increase your chances of getting crud stuck in your calipers: should be easy enough to tell by looking, and you can pick it out by reversing slightly first to loosen up any jammed foreign matter. If that doesn't eliminate the "grinding" sound, take it in and get it up in the air so that they can clean the calipers/pads properly.

I just did a brake search and it looks like this is the first post of its kind lol. I didn’t see any suggestions on a fix. Is it something as simple as tweaking the fitment? Like you said I don’t need to worry about it now but I would like it looked at next time I get a oil change or something like that.

edit I think you’re saying after market pads may fix the issue right.

Right: the aftermarket pad fitment varies. It's possible that you have an OE pad that is defective (maybe it is missing a tad of material for whatever reason), or even a caliper is "off" just a tad, so that the pads aren't gripped as solidly: that wouldn't necessarily be a problem with brake operation. When I said check out the other brake threads, I wasn't pointing you to any other discussions like yours: you are (so far) unique. :p

(edit to add: when we wonder about the causes of extraneous noises we are really talking about a whole list of possible causes. Another one could be how the caliper (LF?) is mounted; could it be loose instead of a loose pad? Anyway, as you say, keep this till your car goes in for service/inspection. There shouldn't be a problem waiting till then, as long as nothing else manifests to make you suspect that your brake system is being compromised.)

Haha well thanks for replying as well as everyone else. Sounds like a minor issue. Now I have to make a decision if it’s worth visiting a dealership since I have a shit ton of mods and a tune kit installed lol.

Mine does the same thing on non-oem pads. Pretty much the same problem. Thought maybe it was my eibach bars, but, whatever.

Mods, well, I hope that you have a lenient dealership: they do exist: some will even put the mods on for you. :D
