This happened in a 2017 Santa Fe (limited ultimate trim with climate control in blue-link).

So was taking a road trip to TX and about 1 hr before reaching el paso the AC started getting less and less cold. The blower was less powerful as well, even when manually turning up to high.

We stopped for a piss break for at most 5 minutes and when we got back and turned the car back on the AC worked just fine, and continued to work fine the entire rest of the drive to San Antonio, as well as the last 2 days.

Seemed too quick to be an icing evaporator problem, especially since it has not acted up again.

I did check the fan before turning off car and it was running fine (and engine temp was normal).

At this point I am leaning toward a fluke electrical issue like a stuck relay coil or bcm/ecm issue that cleared when turned off the car; but was seeing if anyone had any other insight.

I vote icing on the evaporator...

What else would cause the decrease in airflow you describe despite manually increasing the fan speed setting.

Sounds exactly like an iced up evaporator. Especially since normal operation resumed after shutting if off for some time. Maybe that 5 minutes was enough

Sounds like an iced up evap to me as well. I also imagine it would thaw out pretty quick in the Texas heat once the compressor was no longer running.

+3 for icing.
This happened all the time in a shitty Altima I had because that system used a temp sensor in the evap to cut out the compressor. It would ice over quickly when the sensor died.
Could be a wiring fault to a similar sensor, or something just didn't register right, or conditions were just right for the evap to freeze.

+4
