hey guys. I need some advice. I have the common wastegate squeak when feathering the gas and when car turns off. My car is 5 months old with 5300 miles. Dealership is willing to replace turbo, but has to drop engine and transmission. Is it even worth the fix? Has anyone had issues beyond just an annoying squeak? I can't say I want kia techs dropping transmission and engine for just a squeak. Thank you.

I know of one other member that had a turbo replaced by KIA for this, the new turbo made the same noise, so he said it wasn't worth it for him.

My car does the same thing don’t hear it during acceleration but definitely when I turn the car off. Was wondering what it was.

Its the wastegate in one of the turbos. How long has your squeak been there? Whats your mileage on your stinger?

How annoyed are you by the squeek? It's up to your tolerance. Mine squeak's periodically at shut-down but i've never heard it during acceleration, that's a new one for me. I'm not bothered by it.

Personally on a car with a 10 year drivetrain warranty the value in fixing this now falls far short of the risks. To have them pull your engine to replace the turbo is not something i'd want done unless I had to. From the multitude of stories told here about how they can't even complete an oil change without messing something up, i'd steer clear until it impacts performance.

I've also read that even if they fix it, it will be temporary due to the design of the wastegates on these turbos you'll inevitably get the squeaking at shut-down.

Yeah, no way I'm letting them pull the engine and transmission. If they do that, im confident I would have soo many more problems. How long has your squeak from wastegate been there? I'm also assuming you have no performance issues because of wastegate squeak? Thanks for your help!

I noticed it from new. Only happens sporadically when i turn off the car. No performance impact at all and It hasn't gotten any better/worse.

So you got car near 0 miles on odometer? How many miles are on your car now? Just trying to compare to mine.

Yep. 11,000 kms now. It’s a summer car for me.

My 21’ GT1 is having this same issue starting at 1k miles. Is your Stinger having any issues or had any failures from this noise? And has it gotten any better or worse? Thanks in advance for any feedback on this.

Nope. No issues and happens sporadically at shutoff.

I've had this noise for awhile now, 13k mi on the car. Very sporadic and is usually quiet. For me it tends to happen more when the car idles or parked during a drive and happens when the car is turned off.
I do have borla exhaust so it's muffled a bit - hopefully not too much bc I might swap exhaust setup !

42,000 miles on my car and I get no squeaking at all. My ac fan squeaks a bit though heh.

I have the squeak on my 20’ GT2 as well but your comment drew my attention with the Borla. How is it? Was looking at getting the exhaust done when I can. Bought the car a couple weeks ago and love it!!

The squeak which is most noticed when the engine shuts down must be a kia thing? I believe I've heard it once on the Stinger.
However it always occurs on the 1.6t Forte turbo.

I'm not sure if it's significant enough to be a cause for concern or if it's impacting functionality?

I heard the squeak when in park and I would quickly tap on the gas. I happen to start hearing it around 7,500 miles, although it could have started before that. Never noticed anything negative mechanically though. I just took the car into the dealership service department for that and something else (car now has 10,600 miles on it). Service rep said it has something with a washer and the wastegate, and typically happens on one of the turbos, and needs to be adjusted. Well, after waiting for over seven hours, they informed me that it actually was both, and not just one. Furthermore, they said that they did the adjustment, but normally that is something that is only covered for the first year or 12,000 miles (whichever comes first), but they did not charge me in considered it goodwill, since I owned the car for over a year already. If this is something that is Kia's policy and is not typically covered under their powertrain warranty, that is absolutely absurd. If they did end up charging me for that work, there's no way in hell that I wasn't going to get reimbursed one way or another by Kia.

I get the squeak too, started at around 16k miles. I asked the dealer about it and they said it was pretty normal for them to do that and if i wanted to i could spray some mineral oil on the hinge to make it quiet but it would probably return in time.
