Well it came, and now it's gone...leaving frozen everything and sub-zero temperatures! As for the stinger she was parked out of the way of falling tree branches or trees for that matter.I set the mirrors to stay open and left the wipers in the upright position and extended away from the windshield.
I'm waiting to get in and driving her til the temps moderate, I have a stand by kia forte to do the grunt work in the sub -zero crap.....roads are good , I just don't wanna put the stinger through a bunch of short trips when the temps are below freezing.

How do you set the wipers upright???

What tires u running?
stock oem 18's...but I never drive on ice......ever.
How do you set the wipers upright???

After turning off the car.. within 20 seconds, pull the wiper stalk up and hold for like 2 seconds. The wipers will go into an up position.

Wow,thank you, I had no idea of to get them upright.
there is another way, but this is the easiest way by far. the other way involves the car already off and using the accessary area of the start button w/out starting the car.

You could let it run long enough to get up to operating temperature before shutting down. That's what I do.

It took an hour of idleing the sorento to reach 140 degrees.....I'll pass at the single digits......with the stinger.

Well, this isn't remotely near zero F around here. That could alter things a bit. :P I think I'd still sit in my car until the oil got to 100, then take a longer route to where I am going and let it get up to full operating temperature. If this isn't possible, once in a while, I think the engine will "understand". ;) Most drivers are in a horrid habit of turning on and off a la "The Gods Must Be Crazy' mode: back out of your driveway to your mailbox across the street, steer back into your driveway and shut it off.

that would be kinda funny...pull out the driveway, tell yourself ,''the gods must be crazy'' then say ''screw it'' and head back up the driveway, lol

............yup a few guys around here cant get theirs up ........................:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Help me understand why this is so crucial.
For me , I have a really short commute to work. That being said any water build up in the crankcase will not completely disperse...so knowing there may be a potential icing problem to begin with (extreme low temperatures will turn any water molecules to rock hard ice , causing severe damage to an engine). I refrain from driving in extreme cold.......the other vehicles are well maintained and enjoy many heat cycles when in use, so the chance of any ice in them is non existent.

why not get a block heater ??

Wow, I had no idea about this issue. What temps required for this to be an issue? Is this only required in extreme cold? I always do at least one remote start and drive the long way everywhere.

Block heaters do one thing ..keeps the engine warm, it will not raise the oil temp above the mark to evaporate water molecules

It's not an ambient temperature thing....it is a problem with constant short excursions. 2 things happen ,one the crankcase does not heat up enough to evaporate any water molecules sufficiently to either breath out a catch can or run through the pcv valve.
two, after a few seasons the battery will discharge enough to allow weak starts, again because the engine just isn't running long enough to compensate the original start up energy that was used.

please, this is just my inherent problem....I would have the same problem with any vehicle.

kinda back fired on me....raised the wipers and they were all ice covered........real thick too!! sucked trying to knock off the ice from the rubber, lol

Next time lay a rolled bath towel over them in the wiper well. No matter how much snow or ice lays on your car, when you pull the towel off, everything underneath will be ice free.
