[VENDOR][FS]: Kia Stinger 3.3T - K&N Typhoon Intake System - K8 Stinger Store

Are you sure? The last KN CAI I installed, I had to pull the air temp and mass air sensor off the original pipe and install it on the new one..

Interesting...I've never installed a CAI so am curious about the battery disconnect. If you don't disconnect the negative cable and you did the install, would pulling the air temp and mass air sensor create issues? It seems these wouldn't be impacted if the car was off. Your thoughts?

You're probably right, I doubt it would hurt, unless you shorted it out on accident. I know the air temp sensor is pretty fragile anyway.. IMO removing the negative cable takes all of 1 minute and is probably cheap insurance...

Disconnecting the battery forces the car's computer to re-learn how the car is processing air and fuel. It should take much less time for a reset to find the best performance for a change in intake than if one let the system learn the impact of the changes over time. Hope that makes sense.

That does make a lot of sense!

Ok, cool looking product. Anyone know how long it takes to install?

And out of curiosity, why does K&N recommend disconnecting the negative lead on the battery? The instructions don't involve any electronics.... Is it purely a safety play to prevent someone from starting the car while your hands are in the engine bay?
Great questions! Install should take about an hour to an hour and a half!

-First I'd say just for safety they recommend disconnecting the battery. Although you arent working with the electrical aspects of the vehicle its always best to play it safe working in the engine bay.

-Second, by disconnecting the battery while installing the intakes resets the ECU to accommodate for the new open element intakes installed!

Correct!

Fairly easy install. Some of the hoses kinda pain to get off and the clip but nothing to difficult. I did find pool of oil in driver turbo. No mods before this and I don't have a heavy foot. Highly recommend OCC even without modding. After install makes the engine bay pop with dual filters. When giving it decent gas you can hear the air being sucked in. Loving it!

Do these filters require oiling?. As for the filters out there that do why?

The K&N will be pre-oiled. Often they use too much which is a problem. They have kits (Recharger Kit?) that have a cleaner and more oil so that you can clean one up when you believe it's finally starting to get dirty and may clog airflow. If what you receive is too oiled for your taste, you can use one of those kits to clean and re-oil to your taste.

The reason they're oiled, quite simply, is because the filter element works better when oiled.

Yes I understand that K&N needs oil but I was unsure if they were any other intake options that the filters didn't need to be oil. I read somewhere that the oil on the filters could affect the turbos and some way

If you soak the filter too much that extra oil can get sucked into the turbo's. K&N has a video on this to explain the proper way to oil your filter

Just curious I asked one of my buddies to order one of these for my 3.3 stinger gt2, seeing how he gets cheap parts and he said it was illegal in California is this true for anyone else or have had any issues? Thanks in advance.

These are not CARB legal yet
