Hello everyone I have a few questions about the UVO system you could call me a conspiracy believer which leads me into my question. I want to activate my UVO but I was reading the fine print and what I got from it is they can monitor us at any time any place and record or view our driving conditions which is something I don't like all that much ,say I blew an engine doing 140mph and they then tell me we cant warranty it because you where driving erratically and they saw all that info from the UVO. You understand where I'm coming from so please don't make comments like, well if you shifted 100 RPM lower and knew how to shift the conifflin pin over to the right the motor would not have blow blah blah... I was just using an example. My question is, is the UVO a black box and pretty much spyware or is it something that is awesome and should be utilized cuz us as owners benefit from it or is it just way for the dealer to monitor us and our driving habits and could potentially use it against us. I would love to hear some input on this till I do it will not be activated.

UVO a black box

A little bit of paranoia is certainly healthy, but UVO is not a black box. That is already built into your car.
Virtually every car built in the last 5 to 10 years, if not before that, had a black box built in as part of the system. The only difference between then and now is how much is being recorded. The legal authorities, forensic scientists and of course manufacturers have the instrumentation to read the cars black boxes and interpret them in the case something goes wrong or there has been a crash.

If you are concerned that someone is following your movements, turn off your phone, GPS, Navi unit and any electronic device you usually carry.
Every app you load onto your iPad, phone, or tablet wants to know your location, and your service provider knows how to find you as long as your phone is active and maybe NOT active. WHO KNOWS?

UVO is the least of your problems. No dealer has the equipment (nor employees) to follow your movements and style of driving. Neither does KIA Motors (yet?). :)
Don't worry, everybody who needs to know already knows already everything about you. Are you on Facebook? Instagram? Twitter? This forum? :) :)
Relax, as far as I can determine, your record is pretty clean......so far :)

lol that is a pretty funny answer. what I'm getting at is will the UVO system record stuff they can use against me in a warranty situation?? example being: nope we cant warranty that because you used launch control yesterday and did 150mph. I don't care if they watch where I go I'm more concerned about them tracking my driving habits and how I drive.

You should assume, that the stuff you are concerned about is recorded in the black box, which works these days pretty much like an airplane's black box. The only question is, how much, how far does it go back? But if push comes to shove, the car manufacturers will go into the box and start analyzing the data. Understood, not for every incident, it would be too much of an effort, but if they think it's worth their while, you should assume, they will.

But I don't believe that data on your driving habits is collected via UVO, unless someone wants to correct me.

Maybe you should consider driving only the after sunset, at least they can't see you?! Or under an assumed name? :)

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
In my experience, connecting to UVO while trying to do anything else with your phone doesn't work well. So I'd not worry about it. Given the hassles, I don't use UVO.

I was reading about this same situation, although different manufacturers.... the Nissan GTR does in fact record how many times you use launch control and the likes, in which Nissan used this data to deny the customer's warranty (sent him a message after like the 8th launch in a day or something). The customer sued Nissan for this and won.

The point being is the Black box is indeed recording everything, and could possibly be used against you in some shape or form. You best believe if you wreck and hurt people they WILL pull data from the box which can be used as evidence in court....

Food for thought...

Edit to add: Its not the UVO you need to worry about, its the black box.

Sorry, don't misunderstand what I said....There is no proof the UVO for Kia (infotainment) can or will capture car usage data, to my knowledge. Dont be scared about using it brother!

The concerning item is "The black box" which something you cannot turn off and is embeded in the car. ALL newer cars have it because of the insurance/liability/lawsuit era we live in today. Thing is there is no concrete evidence about what it actually captures, where its stored, who can read it, when its recording, etc..,. Its even worse with today with cars having built in Wifi so theoretically, the car could be calling home whenever it wants to report/record ANYTHING the requester wanted... (Speed, brake, time before impact, G forces, seat belts, etc.., ) One could phantom that it would require a warrant to be searched, but I'm sure "we" as consumers have unknowingly waived that right in one way or another.
