• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

Utah Stingers

Merlin, those rims look amazing :D
Thank you. :D
I've been contemplating what wheels to get. I unfortunately got staggered all seasons for the wet/snow months... Wish I could undo that.
Why? I like my OE 19" rims for winter. I got the staggered Watkins for summer (all but c. 4 months). And I really like the Nitto Motivo A/S UHP on the OE rims; they are very satisfying for almost the entire winter season: just go carefully when the roads are bad: I would do that even if I had winter tires on, and this way I get performance when the roads are dry and temps go above freezing, which is often around here. :)

So when the hell are we gonna have a meet!?!

Not too early, or else we won't be able to enjoy a drive into the mountains. Sometime in April I am going to do the "Alpine loop", from the mouth of Big Cottonwood canyon along the Wasatch Front, over the ridge in Draper, down to the highway, left onto the Alpine Loop Scenic Byway (closed in winter, see what I mean?), then left again along Provo Canyon Rd. Left again to Midway, then up the back side to Guardsman Pass, to the top of Big Cottonwood canyon (see earlier post on this in this thread). I'm pushing for this "meet" because I think it would be a lot of fun and very rewarding. But I want to scout it out first to make sure there are not any unforeseen difficulties.

Let me know. I'll be there :D

This will probably be the thread to organize a meet. Those who are active on the Stinger Forum will find out about it when the time comes.

Hey Deisic, What does the Jb4 tune do?? I am intrigued!

Sorry all for the very late reply. I have been blocked from replying for so long and I have no idea why. I even got the owner of the site involved and he couldn't figure it out either.

How odd. Never heard of that happening here before. Welcome back. :D So, if Sal couldn't figure it out, how did you wind up back here? Did you set up a fresh account?

We tried that, and it even still happened with an account he made for me. So I honestly have no idea! Lol. If I keep my replies short, it looks like it lets me post.

How short do your posts have to be? You might be reduced to multiple postings to just converse "politely". :) That will certainly up your post count effectively, and no mod can complain (sometimes they have taken several of mine and lumped them together; now, why would they do that? ;)).

So, what happens when your posts are "too long" and you click "Post Reply"? What do you see?

Have you tried posting from a different computer?

New to the forum, but not new to Kia.

I have a question in regards to the side mirror camera on the GT2. Is this an option for a GT1? Is the wiring there, just not in use for the GT1?

I have a 2013 Kia Optima Hybrid, but looking to purchase a 2019 SWP Stinger near the end of the year and trying to decide on a GT1, or GT2. Thanks!

Hi.

Whereabouts in Utah are you?

I don't know specifically what 2019 upgrades are on the GT1. I think the "driver assist" stuff is all standard. 360 degree camera is for sure standard on the GT2; and I think it's an option on the GT1 for 2019.

I live in Kearns, but work in Draper.

I have been watching the Stinger for the last year and then got excited about the Telluride, but I realized i'm not a SUV kind of mom LOL! I gotta have the slick looking sports car :) I'm going back and forth on White or Grey for the color. Definitely won't be black, learned my lesson on that color option.

Lol. I've seen only seven "Stingers in the wild" in over a year (including three road trips from TX to WA and CA). And four of them have been Black. :D There's a gray (Ceramic Silver) on Old Bingham Hwy (which is my main artery out of our neighborhood); and I've seen it three times; just yesterday afternoon, in fact. It is arguably the most popular color in the US. By "Grey" I presume you mean that color and not Panthera Metal: which is as close to metallic black as you can get.

Hi, all.

I made my first attempt at the "Stinger loop" this afternoon. Alpine Loop (and no doubt Guardsman Pass too) is still closed "for winter". Bleh.

But, I did shoot some videos of the route out of the Valley, starting at the park and ride at the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon. So peruse these and start getting familiar with the layout. Once we leave the Valley, there are not that many places we can go wrong. But, that is what cellphones are for. :D

Here's the rest of the drive to where I got shut down. Posted it there because it (as a drive) is of more general interest than merely planning a Stinger "swarm". Pictorial where did you go in your Stinger today

Next time, I'll complete the video directions for staying on Wasatch Blvd (and out of Little Cottonwood canyon); turning onto 1700 East; then onto 1300 East; and the actual turnoff onto Highland Drive.

Here's a completely different kind of drive, that preceded the "Stinger loop" attempt.

Last Friday I botched a left turn in the most odd manner, and I had to go check the venue out and see if I could deduce what had caused the FUBAR:

Right: did you notice how the vehicles in front of me totally skipped over the left dashed turn line? I wasn't savvy as to what was messing with me: I kept to the middle of the turn lines and it felt like I was being led away from the west bound lane; because everybody else had turned tighter. Very weird, disorienting feeling!

So! Nobody (but me) even tries to stay inside the curved dashed turn lines. Well, maybe at least one personage, at least a year ago: note the missing right (stay to the left of the median) directional sign: I think that somebody sailed right over the end of that median and took out the sign.

That pic is bracketed by an earlier and later set of screenshots (note the dates in the upper left corner), both of which have the right median directional sign in place.

Match this incident with my Suncrest fubar, and I seem to be challenged by left turns, or things on my left! Heh! I'm working on it …

Anyway! The Upshot is, the short version is: I HATE CROSSOVER LEFT TURN LANES; THEY ARE AN INVENTION OF THE EVIL ONE. Does any other place on the planet even have these infernal things? They are relatively new; just started appearing c. ten or so years ago.

Does anyone in Utah have the Borla exhaust installed that I can listen to before I purchase? :)

Can't answer that one, @Andrew92

But let me conclude my "left nemesis saga" with the one that started it; last April, in Wichita Falls (this is the doozy). Family were staying at Homewood Suites, and I was to fetch them to a funeral in Burkburnett. I used NAV, of course, and "she" led me up Maplewood Ave. Naturally I stayed in the righthand lane, then turned right into the driveway. (I had passed no one, or seen any vehicles that alerted me to what was coming.)

After picking up the family, I retraced my way to the mouth of the driveway and turned left to return the way I had come. I was chatting with family I had not seen in quite a while. So I (and everyone else in the full car) missed this:

That literally was the only warning. I proceeded up Maplewood Ave, in what I thought was the righthand lane. Then I saw a car coming IN MY LANE!? WTH!? They moved out of my way, of course and flashed their lights. That was about the time I passed a "One Way" sign and realized my error; there wasn't anything I could do but put on some Stinger speed to hasten to the far end of the divided road, where I got off at Elmwood Ave:

Of course, not having a bird's eye view, and not knowing the town, I had no idea that turning right out of Homewood Suites' driveway would have led me to a crossover to the matching One Way lanes. (Or, I could have followed NAV and avoided the entire botched left turn. This embarrassing screw up went a long way toward convincing me to pay attention to NAV in strange surroundings.)

At least it was over a year later before I muffed a left turn again. But followed by that wander across the double yellow lines on Suncrest last Sunday raises the alarm: more attention, not less, is required of the aging driver.
