US pricing?

2018 Camry is a boring car. It misses a lot of features. The price is $38K for the top trim. I'll take it $32K out the door or looking for somewhere else.

According to the stinger, I only take Stinger GT2 for the most features included for $50K.

The Camry is certainly no Stinger...

And you almost certainly could get the Camry loaded and out the door for $32k...

If you really think the price is an issue just compare it to Germany where the 3.3 GT starts at €54,900 / $65,000. And then add more than $6 per gallon for gas. You should feel much better now

In the UK the price is also much higher than the US, but that is normal for all cars here. I think if KIA want to push their brand upmarket they can afford to take a hit on the price of a relatively low volume model and may well be doing. The price/spec is incomparable to the opposition in the UK, so long as the car is nicely put together and works well it is going to be a bargain I think.

My experience with my local Kia dealer when I was looking at a Niro not long ago is "MSRP PLUS ADM or bust!"

I personally think the current pricing structure will be a hard sell for the Stinger. NO ONE buys a Stinger with ADM.

I hope you're right, Bamm1, because I, and presumably many others, won't play blatant price markup games.

It's bad enough to pay at or near MSRP on high-demand, low-supply cars like the Stinger, where the dealers can basically just say, "Take it or leave it. If you don't buy it at that price, someone else will. Have a nice day."

How I hate the demeaning experience of dealing with car salespeople. For the last two cars I've bought, a Honda S2000 and a Ford Focus ST, I had friends at the dealerships and got great prices right up front with no hassle or negotiation required. No such luck at Kia, though. As much as I look forward to the Stinger's arrival, I dread the process of trying to buy one.

Anyone who didn't see this coming has not been paying attention. You can't want a car more than a dealer wants to sell it to you. My thoughts are you'll need to wait until May to see MSRP and year two (at least) for any kind of below MSRP price OR any decent lease option. Might even be worse than that depending on how many units Kia is shipping over.

I've been in sales before (not cars) There is two ways to make money selling any item. 1 is to volume sale the item at a low profit, sale 10,000 units making a profit of 1000 each and you will profit 10 mil. The other option is making an item that people have to have, keep it rare so they can't have it and charge a premium. If you can make 5k off each unit you only need to sell 2000 units to make the same 10 mil. From all appearances of not just the stinger rollout but Kia claiming they are going to change how they sell cars I am not surprised at all that to me at least Kia is going to try and go for option 2.

Lol 40k after a year might be best case. All depends on what they can sell and how they sell it. The first year the Genesis sedan came out it lost 38% of it's value after 1 year.
But I do certainly believe there will be a few takers at 60k+ Look at what they were selling the civic type r for when it first came out. They were getting 40% + over MSRP. What is that old saying about separating a fool from his money??

Well, not THIS fool! I've walked out on dealers for both of my last two cars (and ultimately ended up buying them from another dealer), and I guess I can again. Of course, I'll be crying this time, but still, $60K?!?!

Because that would drive all the dealers out of existence. They know this and spend crazy amounts of money in donations and lobbying to your state legislature so they have some crazy law on the books that a manufacturer can't sell a car to you directly. I've heard Tesla got a few states to change this but it's an uphill battle..

With over 750 dealers, even if all of them do not get Stingers, I don't think a strategy of much above MSRP pricing could hold for long. Also, I would wonder how the Kia brand shifts perception if you have to go to a dealer to see the car because there aren't many out on the road. I think they would vote for volume over higher prices on one car and push for less discounting on the rest of the fleet.

Selling less cars for more money is good on one hand because there's less service to deal with while making the same sales profit. Then again, the dealers themselves make the most profit on service...

And like @B Sharp, said - I think Kia needs this car to be out on the road. They need to sell a lot of them. Lincoln is having a hard time getting Continental sales off the ground because nobody really knows about them. But, as time goes on and more and more people see them on the road - sales are picking up. And let me tell you - buyers love the car once they're in it and driving around. It's an amazing premium luxury sedan for a not-so premium price...

Anyway... I think Kia Corporate wants as many Stingers on the road as possible. Kia dealerships should as well - but some are going to be greedy at first and try to make as much as possible from high priced sales. And that'll probably work out to their advantage in the beginning as there are always plenty of people willing to pay a higher than normal price to be the first one to have the new toy...

This post is a Kia dealer’s wet dream and about as likely as the Titanic steaming into New York Harbor any day now. At the end of the day it’s a $50,000 Kia, outside of us the line will be nonexistent.
