Upgrade mufflers only?

I drive 2018 GT. Anyone here replaced only the original muffler instead of the entire exhaust system?

As I understand it there won’t be any performance improvement but would make for a subjectively better exhaust note.

Thought I might go this route first because 1) less expensive and 2) I may not like the result and wouldn’t be stuck with an entire system.

Any opinions or recommendations?

Thanks.

I swapped in Tork Muffler deletes with Vibrant resonators in them. Enough sound for me.

Was it an easy swap, did you have to do any cutting or permanent mods to do it?

Looks like many people complain about the drone from muffler deletes. Are there any mufflers that can be swapped in that will give better sound but no drone?

The swap itself is easy...remove six bolts (two on each muffler piece plus two for a crosspiece), remove a hanger on each side, put hangers on new pipes, and reinstall two bolts on each side....twenty minutes tops using ramps.

No cutting is necessary and they can be ordered from Tork with the resonators. I originally ordered just the muffler deletes and then thought it was too loud. I bought the Vibrant resonators separate, cut the pipes, had a buddy weld them up, and reinstalled. Cost me the same but had a fun project lol.

And not much drone with the vibrant resonators then?

If you make the exhaust considerably louder then you are gonna have drone, the cause of drone on the stinger is the fake exhaust tips which don't connect to the exhaust pipes and allows the sound waves to bounce around underneath the spare tire area like it's a subwoofer enclosure.

This is partially or completely remedied by installing aftermarket tips, for the record.

Nope...there is still some very mild drone between 1000 and 1500. It isn’t there while driving and I haven’t gotten tips yet. The Tork muffler deletes are only one pipe on each side....not a Y like SSR muffler deletes. I am almost ready to pull the trigger on some dual h-tips that would bolt on. I just need to check the measurements.

Cat-back systems are really just muffler replacement plus a bit of piping to make the install easy. All of them are extremely easy to install - just a few fasteners, and the OE gaskets are even reusable. It's unlikely anything has even rusted together unless you drive on salted roads. There are plenty of reviews and videos for every kit.
Or, you can go to a local exhaust shop and get whatever mufflers you want welded in.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I’ve been doing more research in the meantime as well. I don’t think I’m ready to do a full car back system. I think I’m leaning towards the Tork but will probably get an appraisal from a muffler shop first.

NGM makes an axle back kit. Will need tips to help with drone though. I havent put any on because its not that bad to me. However ive got the 2.0 so i cant speak for the 6 cylinder

Does any do an exhaust that use real tips connected to the mufflers and remove the fake tips?

Quicksilver SuperSports do that, however there's been mixed satisfaction with fitment and build quality. A bunch of us had to get replacements because the first batch had a design defect that ruined the sound, but to their credit, they did fix it. Some people don't like that their tips are circular instead of ovals that fit through the OEM bumper with a stock-like look but, just like other systems, you can just get tips to fix that.

I have the NGM Delta axleback and love it. Replaces the heavy stock mufflers, gets rid of the crimped part of the pipe and also you get a better exhaust note. IMO.

Just wondering because you have a GT. Ive got the delta too and like i had said i dont think it needs them either.

Only complaint i really have is i wish the muffler tips aligned a little better with the stock chrome tips.
