Under drive Waterpump Pulley for Stinger GT's

Can the tensioner just be turned with a wrench to allow some slack like some other cars?

I belive it is just 20mm socket.
No, the belt remover is inserted between the belt and the pulley. When you manually crank the main pulley, it will drive the belt tool around the water pulley and lift the belt off.

I had to do this on my WRX with a similar belt remover.

Wow, I don't remember any belt I had to replace in this way on the WRX. I had to have 3 or 4 hands to do the timing belt, but for the other ones, somehow I didn't need it. Too far back to remember unfortunately. 1291497018502.jpg

Here is the stinger tensioner. You can clearly see the spot for the socket. You push it to release the tension. images.webp

The 2008-14 EJ25s used stretch belts. I had a 2011 and definitely needed a tool to properly remove a belt (you could do it a ghetto way, but also risk damaging the belt or pulley). My 2006 WRX and 2004 EJ25 in my '99 2.5 RS didn't have them. Neither did my 2005 Legacy GT or 2007 FXT Sports.

I may know a thing or two about Subarus.

Correct. But look at the procedure to remove the water pulley belt.
It is showing 2.0 engine only. But still not sure what is that special tool for. Pushing on tensioner should give you more than enough room to take it off. I guess i will find that out once i get to replacing it. But it looks like i will have to remove intercooler merge pipe section to put it back on.

Valid point. I wasn't sure which kind of Stinger you have.

The 3.3 shouldn't require that belt tool according to the KGIS manual.

Here's a video on another 3.3L hyundai motor I believe the procedure is the same:

The routing of the belt must be different than the video since there is no power steering pump on the Stinger.

I think it's the same procedure to remove the belt tension.

The new pulley is barely smaller than stock. 1/16 of an inch, maybe, and definitely is lot lighter. I dont have a small scale, but i would say it is 1/3 of the stock pulley weight. 20210827_101914.webp
