Turbocharger noise?

my car is making this kind of noise while pushing on gas pedal at "P" gear.
noise occurs while pushing on the gas pedal, not while releasing the gas pedal.
Is this normal?
I’m not sure what others are hearing but I hear a metallic “tink” as soon as you touch the throttle. It sounds like metal on metal contact when the torque of the engine twists the motor slightly. Does it only happen when cold or less when warm?

This does not seem normal to me and may be engine mounts or some supporting bracket not secured tightly. I’d have Kia service take a look at it and show them the video at full volume. Also make sure they test it when it is cold so they dont give you some excuse that they “can’t replicate” the sound.

I hope it’s nothing and at worst just the throttle body squeak others have mentioned, but I’d definitely have it checked out and get others first hand account of the noise since phone videos don’t do justice to certain sounds.

It sounds like metal on metal and most likely in the throttle body as many have suggested. I personally wouldn't lose any sleep over it, and hope I never have to step foot in a KIA dealer, but this is your car so I can't tell you what to do. If it was me, I'd look into lubing the throttle mechanism with a spray before considering visiting a dealer service department.

This is normal

Also I've traced this exact noise to the passanger side wastegate. Check with a long screw driver and your ear while someone does it. This has been said to be normal

I get the point of trying not to visit a Kia dealer if at all possible, but any “metal on metal” noise coming from the throttle body, or any important internal part is not something to take lightly and could be serious. Saying it’s nothing to lose sleep over is implying not to be concerned which doesn’t make sense in this case. Nothing personal and I understand you’re being optimistic, but hoping you can fix it with some spray before knowing what the real problem is isn’t the best advice.

I understand saying it may not be something to be concerned with, but saying it’s normal doesn’t make sense unless all 22k+ Stingers have the same weird sound. I know that mine and every other Stingers in the SFL Stingers Squad does not have that unusual sound.

Again I hope you’re right and some wastegates do make a strange metal on metal clanking sound, but people said my rear end whine “was normal” too. I’m glad I didn’t ignore it because as soon as I took it in to Kia they immediately replaced it with a whole new differential. It had metal shavings everywhere and was literally about to fall apart. If I took the advice of people that said, don’t be concerned or it was normal, mine would have exploded on the highway like one of our forum members that had to learn the hard way.

As they say, “better safe than sorry” and just think it’s worth having it checked out by a professional.

Mine does that, it's actually so loud other people have asked what it is when I'm leaving work.

It's that loud...

Sooo for those of you who have not done mechanical work or know how a waste gate works let me explain it for you and what is causing this issue.

A waste gate acts much like a throttle body but in REVERSE. When boost is required it closes the waste gate to allow more pressure/exhaust flow through the exhaust impeller thus spinning up the turbo further. When less boost is required it opens the waste gate to divert this exhaust so the turbo does not spool very much. It does this by moving a little metal arm that's connects the waste gate actuator to the inside of the turbo (looks like a little door in the back side of the turbo. This is like a little metal hinge with no lubrication (metal on metal)

Why this is important?

1. When the car is turned off and there is no vacuum to power the waste gate it closes completely.

2. When you tap on the throttle the waste gate is quickly closing/opening

There is a specific section of the arm/hinge/waste gate that is causing this squeak when the waste gate closes completely this is why the sound is ONLY HEARD when the car is turned off or the throttle is quickly depressed on idle.

I would not be really worried about this as its probably just a slight design flaw or after some use the hinge/arm starts making noise. This doesn't affect the turbo/waste gate functionality.

THIS SHOULD NO BE CONFUSED WITH WASTE GATE SCREECH!!! While under boost the waste gate will actually screech, this is terrible. If your car does that then take it to KIA.

While I agree this noise is unpleasant and alarming for many I wouldn't be too alarmed.

You are correct, to certain extent.

The waste gate remains closed at all times, even on idle, until the desired or predetermined boost pressure has been achieved, then it opens.
There is not enough boost created, to open the waste gate, when reving the engine as show in the video.

Have any of you gotten this noise checked out by your dealer yet? My car does the same exact thing....
Yes many of us have advised its normal. We have said that in this thread a couple times and even kia told a couple of us. If you don't want to trust us then go to Kia.

There are cars which waste gate actuator or throttle body don't make sound like what's going on in ours.
That's also normal not to have metallic noise.
If having a metallic noise is normal as well, is Kia justifying that Stingers don't come with good quality components?

First couple years of a brand new production car with new engine etc.. is expected to have some weird quirks/issues. To expect a flawless car is a little insane, we all have warranties which will do their job.

For saying that the Stinger doesn't come with "good quality" parts, well you are right in some respect. They've provided the performance of a $100,000 sports sedan for $50,000 I would expect some cost cutting measures otherwise the car couldn't be sold for its sticker price.

For people that buy a 50K stinger and are comparing it to $80,000-$100,000 cars from BMW,Audi,Mercedes for quality seems a little unfair to be honest. Go find me a 50K BMW or Audi that preform as well as the stinger does....

You can't have everything, there is a trade off for EVERYTHING.

If you are more concerned about little squeaks and rattles then you are with the performance of a car, go buy a fully loaded Toyota Camry or Honda Accord.

You are absolutely right, Stinger does come with good performance and features for its price.
and I won't be able to find a car at 50k that performs as well as Stinger nor has features like Stinger.
Like you said we all have warranties, but this doesn't help when the Manufacturer claims this odd noise is normal.
My point was Kia shouldn't justify this screech sound as "normal" and my reasoning was that there are vehicles with turbochargers that don't make this noise.

Thats true there are other cars with turbos that do not make this noise, vise versa other cars do have quirks/noises that the stinger doesn't have so it all comes down to what the engineers classify as "Normal".

This is Kia's first car like this, give them some time and in the end if this "noise" does cause a problem and the turbo goes well thats Kia's issue at that point then.

There are noises within a range of "normal operation". Engines and brakes are the two biggest noise makers. So various can the noises produced be, that Kia "warns" in the manual that "scratching" or "rrrrr noises" are the normal sounds produced by "high performance brakes". The same kind of caveat for other noises occurs throughout the manual: sounds that have been noted, while the car operates normally, but the sounds might or might not occur; or might sound variable. Something as "capricious" as a turbo, two of them, as long as they are behaving like turbos should: we should allow for a range of noises as "normal".
