Transmission slips to Neutral by itself when driving

Kia has replaced the gearbox in my car and did so very quickly once they saw the video. Got my car back this morning and very happy to have it back with a new gearbox that feels great and much tighter too. Hopefully this is the end of this issue given that it’s not an issue for most other Stinger GT2 owners.

I've just assumed this is normal if you just let the shifter go, that it would go back violently enough to put itself into neutral, so I haven't been letting it do that. I wasn't aware this was an actual issue. I may be asking my dealer about this myself.

Also from the article, what would the situation be where you're putting your car into drive while sitting at an intersection??

If it’s a very long light, you put into park. Shift into Drive and that’s when it happens. But for me the biggest issue wasn’t that. It was leaving the parking lot at work or leaving from my home which is on a curved part of the street, and the shifter jumping back to Neutral after I’ve already driven in D. Then I’m stuck in N trying to shift to D over and over again while traffic is either coming at me quickly downtown from work, or around a blind corner at home.

First of all, putting the car in P at a traffic light is a really bad idea and likely illegal in some jurisdictions (or would be if people started doing it regularly).

Second, thanks to the overly-litigious USA where people can do stupid things and then successfully sue the manufacturers/providers, we are all stuck with the idiotic separate "P" button--you can't claim to have shifted the lever forward into P and then get run over with your own car. We are also stuck with the idiotic cannot put the car into "D" without your foot on the brake pedal. I suspect your issue with getting the car back to D is related to that one, though why it is jumping into N in the first place must be a defect assuming you are not touching the lever while you drive. That's what needs to get fixed!

(I know, the thread's a bit old). Isn't that what for auto-hold is for? Will hold the brake as long as your foot is off the gas, once you stopped? Much easier than shifting into park.. Or does the GT2 not have auto-hold with the e-shifter?

Gt2 does have auto-hold.

Did Kia provide any explanation about why they had to replace the whole gearbox and not just the shifter to fix this issue?

Did replacing the gearbox resolve your issue long-term? I think I am having a similar issue except that in my case my 2018 Stinger GT2 has been in the shop since a transmission and differential replacement (long story) since december and they can't seem to figure out why it is slipping out of gear. They replaced the shifter assembly but that did not to resolve the issue.
