3.3TT Transmission and differential oil

What oil do you guys recommend using for differential oil on the GT1 Rwd.

I just used Liqui Moly 75w 140 for mine

75w85 is what the manual says for the diffs. I currently have RP 75w90 in them. Previously I had Amsoil 75w90 long life in it.

Is there an LSD additive anyone recommends?

I used Valvoline Full Synth 75w-90

I still had audible binding when making turns, so I drained some of the oil out and used this "Trans-X Posi-Trac" LSD additive to get things back to normal.

I used the same Valvoline Full Synth 75w-90 in my 2020 for lsd fluid change at 36k. Afterwards I noticed noises and from what I researched people call chattering during low speed turns. Did you put the entire bottle of the trans x in? Going to buy some and test it.

I used about 90% of the bottle, I was intending to use the entire thing, but when I went to let some of the diff fluid I could only eyeball how much fluid I let out from the bottom drain plug since I didn't have a way to pump fluid out from the top. Yes, it was a little messy, but it was quick. After I let out enough fluid, I screwed the drain screw back in and filled the diff back up with just the Trans-X until it started to overflow from the fill hole.

On the first drive afterwards, heard a little binding turning out of driveway, notably less when turning on to the main street, and after that it was never felt or heard from again. So after less than a 1/4 mile of driving you should definitely hear and feel the difference.

Maybe use a syringe with a small hose in the fill hole to evacuate?

Funny how you guys had noise after servicing the diff. I used Royal Purple gear oil and never had issues after servicing.

Thanks. I will add some tomorrow and see if it resolved.

Probably better gear oil with the right amount of additive in it? The Valvoline was on sale. But even so it was reputable when I did research. I figured I add the additive and see if it resolved than to buy 2 more quarts of new gear oil.

Valvoline is good. I’ve used SynPower motor oil in all my cars for over 10 years now.

I’ve only used Royal Purple in my transmissions and diffs though(as long as they make a compatible fluid). Better to pay a bit more for better peace of mind over the life of the vehicle.

My ‘06 mustang never had any issues with the manual transmission and the diff only started to make carrier bearing hum around 180k miles.

I have awd gt. Replacing front diff fluid is a pita, but doable. Drain plug is obviously is not an issue. But the fill one is something to get to. You can hardly even see it. I used 10inch extension. Also removed the front stabilizer bar, to get more room to get to the fill plug.
Do you remember what size socket/what type of bit you need for the front diff drain and fill plugs? Trying to tackle both the rear and front diff this weekend.

Not really, it's been a while since i did it. But for the fill plug you'll need a hex key.

I just did my transmission, both drain and fill use IIRC 8mm hex key. Wouldn't be surprised if the diffs were the same.

Yes, front diff fill plug is 8 mm, which is good because you need to pull it out through alot of power steering lines and stuff. If it were a socket it would certainly fall off the socket and be hard to find. Hardest part of removing it is actually finding it, I use a headlamp pointing above the power steering motor and then you can see it from under the diff. I
The fill plug is thread locked in and really hard to break free but once free its a cake walk.

On a youtube video a guy said he took the 4 bolts out for the steering. it moved slightly out of the way and he was able to easily get to the fill plug.

How did you see it? I had the underbody panels off this past weekend and couldn’t find it at all
