Transfer Case Failure

You know, I've been wanting to stay away from modding my car too heavily because I want to have the warranty intact. I'm quickly realizing there's no point since Kia doesn't seem interested in actually paying out warranty claims.

Sorry, OP. This is bullshit. Fight them tooth and nail.

This isn't necessarily Kia, as dealers are all franchisees.

May be totally off base but what if this dealer (franchisee) has a long history of warranty claims and corporate is telling them if they don't "shape up", they have to "ship out".....?

Get a lawyer to write the dealership / KMA a letter. If I were still in practice I would charge around $250 for it (or less for a friend). They should note that the tire size you used is the same tire size for AWD Stingers with 18" wheels (i.e. AWD GT-Line Stingers). I can't believe that Kia would spend money building two different transfer cases - one for cars with staggered 19" setups and one for cars with square 18" setups.

Also - you note that you used the size recommended by Tire Rack. Did you actually buy the winter wheel / tire package from Tire Rack? If so, and if the dealer / KMA ultimately stands firm, I would go after not only the dealer / KMA but also Tire Rack, because if the dealer is right then the Tire Rack should not have sold you that package. Ultimately what this does is pit the dealer / KMA against Tire Rack, and they can pay to have experts fight it out over who's fault it is.

Also, the countless incidents of forum members changing wheels and tires sizes has produced not one other case of a compromised transfer case: clearly this dealership is worthy of only selling snake oil.

Is there an update on the outcome of this issue?

Yeah, Kia dealer was lying not the transfer case…. Anyway sold the car, it was a lemon from the start. I was able to sell it cause the dealership gave me paperwork claiming it was “all to manufacturer specifications” lol. Crooks.

I would have made them take it back and threatened them with legal action. First of all, they lied to you by claiming a setup that the car come with STOCK (mine came with 225/40s square stock) damages the car. When this happens, you document it in a statement, verify who said it, sign your statement verifying it as a record of conversation or whatever. Then you send it to them in a document, so there's a document trail started, etc. Once they start seeing their words "documented", they tend to fess up real fast and do the right thing. You'd cream them in court with crap like that going on. It's what court is for.

I had a problem with my Camaro SS and they just started making up shit at the dealer and then started accusing me of ridiculous stuff. So I documented it and put it all together in an evidence package, sent it to them. What do you know, 3 days later my car is detailed and ready...I had told them they had the two required chances in the lemon law and that I was giving them the final chance (also in the lemon law) to fix it (has a day limit on it). Unfortunately, you gotta do stuff like this, because people don't do the right thing.

In other news, I'm now running 255/40s on 18 8.5, squared. It's 0.2% different diameter than the stock 225s, which is basically not even enough to get my speedometer to read any different. Got about the same clearance on the inside as I did with the 225s, since I went with 35 offset. It ain't much, maybe 7-10mm max, but it's enough.

I had the All Wheel Drive warning dash light come on and off since I bought the car new. Have had it to dealership 4 times, resets, draining the transfer case, etc. Now they are replacing the transfer case. I made no changes, upgrades, mods, dealership tires. Sounds like they have issues with the transfer cases. Fingers crossed

^^^Howdy and welcome. Sounds like individual, rare vehicles have issues with the transfer cases. You had to resurrect this thread, to be the second Stinger in a year to deal with this. Hopefully your car will be excellent after the warranty repair.
