Did you ever get this installed? I am shopping for a stinger, but not having a hitch option could be problematic for me in the future

Kia dealers in Australia offer a towbar kit and wiring harness however, speaking with the dealer just now they advised the following.
The kit comes with extensive instructions however the kit is also quite complex to fit. It requires replacing the exhaust brackets with different ones provided as the towbar location fouls the current exhaust set up. It requires, removing and replacing heat shields, and then programming of the car to let it know that it has a tow bar kit. I presume this is to no only inhibit the parking sensors when towing but possibly contributes to either sway control or at least ABS and Electronic Stability Control.
It confirms my first instinct to Leave it alone.....

I've been happily towing with my stinger for many years, in Canada, with no programming or whatever.
I had to remove the mufflers
And trim my heat shields slightly
And trim a very small section of the rear valance (approx 2" x 4")

Does the car have rear cross traffic alert, rear parking sensors, rear fast and slow emergency braking as the My23 does as this is probably why the car needs to know that a tow bar has been fitted so that when it is plugged into the harness, these items can be disabled by the ECU.
I long ago killed the cross traffic alert because I got tired of having it chirp and slam on brakes while I eased out of a driveway or parking spot at 2mph, watching a passing car with plenty of space.
My brother's 15 year old truck has a backup parking sensor that can be disabled, but he's never bothered to, so it just beeps away in reverse with a trailer. Unless the Stinger has extra aggressive intervention, my guess is you can just ignore it... @D.J. how much time do you spend reversing with a trailer?

Oof. Lots of good info here. Wish Kia would have kept everything more universal by regions. In the USA myself.
@D.J. is your tow bar from kia or third party? I know etrailer no longer carries any of the parts for the stinger.
Really wanted to just put a bike rack on the back so I didn't have to muddy up the interior.

My 2018 does have Rear Cross-traffic Collision Avoidance
Also has rear parking sensors
For wiring, I spliced in a 5 wire to 4 wire universal trailer harness adapter (taken out of my previous car)
I don't love these 3M™ Scotchlok™ Electrical Insulation Displacement Connectors, but they do work if used carefully.
Rear fast and slow emergency braking, I am not familiar with this, I don't think I have such a thing.

I mostly go forward, but I definitely do reverse upon arrival, normally.
The tongue length on my trailer is greater than the parking sensors minimum distance... So the parking sensors for me only start to beep when I begin to jackknife the trailer, so the parking sensors actually do their job quite well in my case. The cross traffic sensors have never triggered while reversing with my trailer, only the parking sensors, and only when near full jackknife.

With that in mind the dealer offered towbar kit comes with the following warning
"Not Suitable for Towball bicycle carrier"
Because there is an electrically operated hatch the door might collect the bike as it opens either on approach or operating the remote from elsewhere.
And for the receiver to be removable there is certainly no requirement here

Assuming you have a particular use for that trailer without sides it is about as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike.
How do you bring home a 1/2 cubic metre of sand?
