Hey Folks,

Could use some thoughts, perhaps from those with GT2 trims or the rare breed that have upgraded from lower trims.

I bought my 19 GTS AWD used in April of 2022 and it currently has 43k miles on it. Great car, great color. Thing is, when I was shopping the pickings were slim. The GTS is lower on the trim ladder than I initially wanted. I was hoping for a GT1, ideally with the red interior. But I pulled the trigger on the unique model that was (and still is) in great shape.

But, I found my unicorn. a GT2, AWD, ceramic silver over red at a honda dealer near me. It's a 2020 with 49k miles on it. Dealer wants 9k in addition to my trade-in value. Cooled seats, HUD, 360 camera, powered liftgate, radar cruise, and all the other GT2 goodies are really enticing. One owner, no accidents according to carfax. It drove well and the paint is in excellent shape. Wheels are a little rashed (the one real negative). What do you think?

Obviously it's all subjective and depends on everyone's finances. But I'm having trouble putting a value to the extra features.

It sounds OK to me.

You are moving to a year later with all the trims and a little over the same miles for $9K. I am not sure of the trim levels there but you would have paid at least $9K more for the next new model up at the time.

It sounds like that trim level is the same as the later models.

A suggestion for the wheels. New buyers often want bigger rims and leave the factory ones behind at at tyre place who sells them fraction of dealer new price. I think they are around $1400 each for a new wheel here at a Kia dealer.. I saw two sets of FOUR My23 Stinger GT wheels here recently brand new with Michelins for $2500. That prices the wheels at $400 for four or $100 each as Michelin Pilot4S which is all you can get here are $535 each.

So google new Stinger GT wheels and see if someone drove a new Stinger to a tyre place and they have a set of four new wheels and tyres.. There won't be many left though

I went to a 2019 GT2 AWD from a 2020 GT AWD, more to be in a car with lower mileage again but the features were a plus. The sound system is a huge upgrade, the 360 cameras are nice, but otherwise I don’t see enough of an upgrade to warrant the extra cost if I were to do it again. BTW the ceramic grey/red interior is what had me drooling too, lol.

$9k sounds a bit steep for some bells and whistles, but if it wasn't for things like the HUD, electric seats and steering wheel, adaptive headlights, cooled seats and heated steering wheel etc etc, I probably wouldn't have pulled the trigger on this Kia.

I totally fell in love with the red interior too, and was only looking at the Blue and Red exterior models before, which only came with black seats. In the end, as nice as those look from the outside, 99% of the time you'll be looking at the interior, which is why I went with a more boring paint choice, just for the red leather :)

And now that I have cooled seats I find myself going for drives and road trips in the summer that would've otherwise been too hot and stressful in my RSX. Even with regular AC it's still too sweaty/balmy for comfort and I'd avoid driving when it's 35c or so.
OH! And just as enjoyable is the Lane keep assist and Smart cruise. Irresponsible as it sounds, since I can feel when the car is following the lane markers, it affords me WAY more opportunities to look around at the scenery and take in the views along the coasts and through the canyons.
I'll never forget my first road trip in this thing, looking to my left, out at the mountains across the river, to a distant rail bridge just as a locomotive starts to cross over... a perfect scene and a core memory I wouldn't have if I was glued to the road without the lane keep tech. [/ramble]

ALL THAT to say, while 9k is a bit much on paper, the extra usage and enjoyment it allows has given the car a whole new purpose beyond just A to B transportation. I hope that helps. :coffee:

I am the opposite. I really liked the the way the GTS was optioned versus the GT1 and GT2 in 2019. I wanted the orange color, H/K stereo, sunroof, black interior, rear wheel drive and the least amount of electronics possible. I drive my car like a hot rod. In sport mode all the time and rarely use cruise control. Good luck with your decision.

Sounds like a bad idea to me. Paying 9k for hud, cooling seats and other small stuff doesn't make a lot of sense. Plus that gts color and carbon trims are just cool.

Well, I think there are a lot more features than just little stuff for $9K. If you just wanted a basic car with the same size engine then do that. I would struggle going back to any car that does not have the features of the last My23 Stinger GT and that's why I bought it because the features are incredible. If you sat the two specs down beside each other you would notice a big difference. What was the difference in price between the two specs when new. I know the 330S here and the Stinger GT were about $15K. The problem is there is going to be less to choose from moving forward. If it was me I would be going for the latest MY23 I could find. You are not going to do any better.

My initial reaction to your story is, keep the Fed Orange perfect car, don't risk it for a bunch of nanny stuff and added features/conveniences. Unless you need those. I certainly do not. And I'd be happy as a clam with Fed Orange in great shape. 6,000 extra miles for $9,000 seems like a counter intuitive move.

I have just picked off the features you get with the Stinger GT here as opposed to the 330S which is the same engine and drive train.

Maybe this is the difference between a GT and GT2 in the US?

It seems like a fair bit of upgrade over a plain ordinary Stinger for $9K unless you want to say that the previous car has all this stuff.

Surely people don't buy a Stinger just because it has an engine..

Thanks for all the input guys. I posted this after having failed to make a deal on the day and am still mulling things over.

Kind of letting fate decide. If the dealer calls me back and wants to meet in the middle I'll likely go for it. If not, it wasn't meant to be.

My GTS does have some features -heated seats and wheel, Harmon Kardon, 8" screen.

The things the GT2 has that my car lacks (and I care about at least a little).

Napa leather (red)
Power bolstered seats
Power steering wheel
Auto high beams
HUD
Cooled front seats
Better/bigger gauge cluster center screen
Power lift gate
Radar Cruise (I do a ton of long distance driving for work. I cover the northeast for my company)
Auto tilt side mirrors for parking
360 camera
Heated rear seats

When I list it out, 9k doesn't seem so bad in retrospect.

As the owner of a base gt the only things I'd really want would be:

Power lift gate
Power tilt steering wheel
360 camera
Auto tilt side mirrors
Sunroof (base car doesn't have it)

I actually had a similar idea as you. There's a 2019 awd gts with 20k miles for sale. I own a 2020 awd gt with 22k. I really like the orange, I just don't know if I'd like the orange all day everyday. To me orange isn't like ceramic silver or blue. I think it's a color you'd get tired of always standing out like that. I want a sunroof though and that'd be the cheapest way to get one. If I didn't have extra mods I think the switch would be a no brainer for me.

Here's the car:

I bought my car new so it came with the 10 year/100k warranty of which I have 7 years/78k remaining. What kinda warranty do you get if you trade it in on a different Stinger?

If you do nothing but take what's left, I believe the warranty for subsequent owners drops to 60K drivetrain and five years. I know that CPO retains full warranty for a second owner. The bumper to bumper is five years and 60K.

That's not bad, in my case I'd loose a little bit like I said I have 7 years 78k remaining on the factory warranty. I'd have to de-mod though for sure. I like the additions I made but I'd have to see how the paint is. My car had the ppf from basically the start, I've seen newer used stingers with the front bumper looking like a 10 year old car. That would definitely be a difference maker in the decision if the front end is all chipped/scratched to hell.

GTS is rare. GT2 is not. $25k for GTS trade is crap. You could sell it on your own for $30k+ pretty quick.
