Time for tires

Really thinking hard about buying another set- 2 rebates per household. These tires feel wonderful, they are 2020 stock, but IDT thats really a much of a concern, considering they likely be installed this time next year- I believe they say tires are good for 7 years or better…and it’ll be comforting to know I have another set ready, the price/value for these tires are unreal.

Says 2020... but the ones I got have mid-to late-2021 date codes. Even if they were 2020, I wouldn't worry. Get some large black trashbags to wrap them in as air-tight as you can, then store in a cool dark place in your house/garage. I bought the 2mil version of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A441B2I and they are large enough for any tire you'd put on a Stinger.

INTERESTING! I just looked myself, all tires from 1821-2121 in the 245/40R19 size

I too am seriously considering getting a set to replace the V730, which after this weekend's event at Eagle Canyon Raceway will probably be retired (pun intended). Might also get another set of Bridgestone Turanza for Mrs. Volfy's Fiat. $231+tx shipped is just insane.

Got my $70 Bridgestone reward greenlighted today, bought another set after all, too good a deal on a damn good tire.

So one of my front tires must've gotten punctured last night. They are the Michelin primacy tour as. It's what the car came with front the factory. I ended up going with 2 Continental Extreme Contact dws06 plus to replace the fronts. It's weird, it seems the the new tires don't fully cover the rim. Almost like the tires aren't wide enough. They are stock size 225/40/19 The Michelin's don't do this. Anybody else have these tires and experienced this?

^^ That can unfortunately end badly, ask me how I know  I'm now on 245s with 8.5in wheels, you might have been protected with 235's on an 8in wheel, but yeah- not the stock size. Those A/S Contis are really good tho and would likely be the shoes on my girl if I wasn't swapping in my winter wheelset. Since our girls are kinda porky, they can easily handle a 235/245 size.

So I shoulda went with a wider front tire? Because the Michelin primacy tires are the same size yet they didn't seem to have as much of the rim sticking out like these Continentals do for some reason?

Some tires/ manufacturers definitely give you more rim protection than others, there was a huge difference in protection between the Conti ECS at 235 and the Potenza Sports in 245 I'm running now. My FU, ahem, curb rash incident would've not happened with the 245 Potenza Sports. IMO, 235/40s all around would have given you a better look and protection, albeit, your speedo would be slightly off.

I had them order me a different set and I'll swap these out. Went with a Michelin primacy mxm4 in 235/40/19 for the front. I switch to a square 18 set for winter, which unfortunately in MN is right around the corner so it should be fine.

Two issues:

1. Some tires have a very prominent rim protector band. Some don't. See here: https://www.tirerack.com/upgrade-garage/what-is-the-advantage-of-rim-protectors-on-tires While the band might seem reassuring, the added material can only protect the rim up to a point. Rubber is soft and will compress. Scrape against a curb hard enough, and your rim will still get scuffed up.

2. There is the sectional width of a tire, which is the first number in the tire designation, say 225/40R19, is based on. Then, there is the tire tread width. In the case of your DWS06+, these are the specs:

Different tires will have different tread width vs. sectional width. Mfr tweak these parameter in their design of a tire to get the desired performance and ride quality for that tire's intended usage. Generally, more touring-oriented tires will have slightly less tread width for better NVH, while performance tires might have more tread width to maximize contact patch and cornering grip, at the expense of more NVH.

It's up to you to look up these parameters before deciding on which fits your expectations better.

where do you find that complete info? this is all I get when searching nitto motivo. https://www.nittotire.com/car-tires/motivo-all-season-ultra-high-performance-tire/

This is the tire in my sig on a 18 x 8.0 stock wheel. Sorry I don't have a more angle shot. Don't recall the tire appearing stretched.

^^ JSolo- looks great in 245, lots of juicy protection on the stockers

Ahhhh much better. I'd definitely run some 245s if they were only summer wheels/tires. 225 always seemed way too skinny for this big of a car.
