Thoughts on a wing spoiler?

At first my hubby liked that kind of wing, but personally I think it will block rear view and looks very " Boy Racer ", but it's your car, everyone has differing tastes and opinions. You do what you want ! ( you could paint it pink with black polka dots, if that's your prerogative and choice )

The way the spoiler works is like an airplane wing, but upside down. ... Every time a wing generates lift (or a spoiler generates down force) it also generates drag. Drag is the natural reaction of the fluid (air) to resist motion through it (the car). Drag is bad, because it slows down the car.

Of course, if you’re doing it just for the looks, Then by all means go for it.

Either something low and subtle that curves with the car like a Panamera's wing, or full f&cking send it. Chassis-mounted park bench, 4 seat minimum. I think it would look good with a widebody kit and canards here and there. Anything inbetween may just look awkward, at least to me.

I like the integrated wing but do they even do anything under 160km/hr? Pretty sure they are wasted on anything that isn't on a race track all day.

Functional spoilers on a race car are generally for downforce, correct. They create a downward force that helps with handling because it creates more pressure between tyres and the road (or just to ensure the car stays on the road instead of flipping up into the air, as you may have seen happen to some race cars). As noted, the byproduct is drag - this is why F1 cars have DRS, they reduce drag (DRS stands for Drag Reduction System) in order to give more straight-line speed when they don't need to be pushing their tyres so hard into the ground to achieve the mind-bending cornering speeds that they're capable of.

Most road cars don't get fast enough for a spoiler to have any real benefit in terms of additional road-holding, but they can provide a different benefit that actually aids in fuel economy - and that's to promote laminar (clean) airflow around the vehicle, and a cleaner airflow separation once it leaves the rear of the vehicle. The longer that air stays flowing along the body, the less drag the body creates - and at the rear of the car, you then want clean separation, not swirling - boot-lid spoilers often help with this, you'll actually find that sometimes putting a rear spoiler on a car reduces the amount of dirt that builds up on the back of it, because the air flow (which carries dirt) leaves the car rather than swirling down onto the rear surface.

Of course, spoilers also have an aesthetic value - if you like the look, you're already winning!
