Problem is remote starting the car period. I work at a police impound. You know how many newer stolen cars we get that don't have the key fobs but are still running? All u have to do is get in the car and you can drive it without the key fob until it runs outta gas or is turned off like you said. Pretty sure breaking the window will work for our cars. It's completely stupid and avoidable. Just make it so it'll run, until you try to put the car into gear. Then it'll shut off.Once the engine is running it will stay running till it is turned off or runs out of gas: the fob is only needed to restart. So, don't remote start your UNLOCKED car. Hah.
Yes, since this subject first came up a few years ago, I've had this exact question: why doesn't the car simply shut off when you get out and walk out of range? I.e., why do "they" make cars that keep running when the fob isn't in contact? It seems like such a simple thing. What am I missing here?Just make it so it'll run, until you try to put the car into gear. Then it'll shut off.

Whoa Whoa Whoa!!...that makes too much sense. How am supposed to leave my radio stupid loud and windows down with shit nobody wants to hear while im in 7-11 getting smokes and beer?Well it’s like why can’t the owner just shut down the engine when he will be away from his vehicle?
But that’s literally the opposite of auto start. You autostart remotely to cool down or heat the vehicle before you get there.Well it’s like why can’t the owner just shut down the engine when he will be away from his vehicle?
Who needs all those gizmos? Cars worked perfectly well with windup windows, with normal key locks etc. Once these new fangled gizmos break, costs a whole let more to replace. I am just from an older generation who can live without those things if needs be.But that’s literally the opposite of auto start. so what you are saying is that vehicles shouldn’t have auto start?
Lol. Anyone with a Stinger has "gizmos" out the wazoo. Remote start is just one more added gizmo.Who needs all those gizmos?
Not really. If remote start has a range, then outside that range the car should shut down. You are missing remote start.
You can start your car with your phone. Remotely. This is due to locations where you can't be near your car...until you get to your car, but when you get to your car, you don't want to wait around in the 110 sun or -40 cold. They can't have the car just quit after a mile or so, as it might get mowed down by a semi-trailer if it's on the road and driving. This is the catch 22. The best solution is usually a tracking feature to allow the police to respond to where the car is. The slow-down-and-stop features are also good, but I think those got nixed too due to liability.Lol. Anyone with a Stinger has "gizmos" out the wazoo. Remote start is just one more added gizmo.

Well I do. When it's cold outside and the car is cold soaked the car needs to thaw out. The ice on the windshield and windows literally will not come off with a scraper until the car has warmed up some and driving it causes the temperature to plummet once you get on the highway if it didn't warm enough prior. This car is sold in more places than Florida.Who needs all those gizmos? Just my 2 cents to this topic.
Just keep your fob in your pocket. Turn the car off get out, lock the doors, buy your stuff and get back in to car that is still sitting there safe and secure. Common sense people.
Ah, the cellphone. Yes, I see what you're saying. But it should be possible to set up the range with this tech. You start your car just inside the max established range. If someone smashes a window, gets in and starts to drive off, *clunk* it dies in the first hundred yards or less. You can start your car with your phone. Remotely. Dont get me wrong: I accept the gizmos but I would have been just as happy without them. I did not buy the car for the gizmos. I have the base model awd 3.3. I do not need the distance following feature or any of those other things (light bending headlamps, cruise controlWell I do. I'm all for remote start, I live in MN, it can get to -30 regularly in the winter. The problem I have is if the car has been remote started, it should have some type of disabling feature that won't let just hop in there and be able to drive it away without the key fob. That's completely stupid. If you worked where I worked and literally saw 15-20 cars a shift stolen (3 shifts a day) so 45-50 cars stolen without any real effort you'd thing it's stupid too. Yes, people have ALWAYS stolen cars but they at least had to put forth a bit more effort. Now, you get in the car, it's already running and it'll stay running and it's clear sailing. But that’s literally the opposite of auto start.
