Yes, socks. Last time I posted, socks turned into a link to buy some socks, so I'm seeing if it happens again.

Edit: not happening this time. I have no idea what happened there...

This website has been monitized, ads will appear randomly depending on keywords in each post. I'm guessing if you didn't mention something related to socks in your post the keyword was taken from your username "SHOEngine".

It could be worse, could have ads all over for indecent items...not to say that's a problem for me, but depending on your browsing history, it could! Socks is tame lol.

It's your phone remembering things you've shown interest in so it can try to sell it to you later.

My ads are usually German made sports sedans or random items saved to my Amazon cart.

You could get rid of it by deleting your cookies or changing the settings on your browser to not recommend ads based on your searches. But then you'll still get ads but they will be completely random instead of related to your interests.

They're back. I don't think it's my phone, unless I have some weird software on here. I even tried it in Edge without logging in, and they are back.

I mean... socks. Weird though. I don't like having text I posted turn into links, because it looks like I did it. Does this happen to anyone else?

Lol me too. The Audi RS5 Sportback keeps coming up, because I have 110,000 dollars to burn apparently....

Ya know what sucks? I've also been looking for a cheap beater for my 17 year old so mixed in with the BMW M5s and Audi RS7s is Chevy Cruzes and Ford Fiestas.

I just explained this to you up above your post.
Yeah, except I used a brand new browser to test it, with no cookies.

Which is why it's giving you ads that are unrelated to anything you've searched.

Btw, the ads aren't just a function of your browser. They come directly from your OS. Are you using an Android powered device? If so you can go to Settings > privacy > advanced > ads. Once there you can change the settings to better suit your needs.

And here is Google's explanation for how it all works:

As mentioned, sites like this are monetized with advertisements - just like any other. If the links bother you, you can opt out of SEEING them here:
Opt Out of Sovrn //Commerce

Or, you could support the site by clicking here. Site supporters don't see network advertisements. But I know that's just a CRAZY idea...

Advertisements don't bug me, however I do put in-line links in my posts from time to time, and I'm not terribly excited about having my in-line links go to random websites (unless your software uses curated lists...).

Anyway, I'm not complaining, it just took me by surprise. I've never seen that before on forums. If I become a paid member, does that mean others do not see adverts in my text? I don't block any advertising on any of my browsers (mainly because it is unfair to site operators), but in-text advertising is a line that I'll not easily cross.

Thanks, but I do understand how that works. With that said... I'm now on a Fedora Linux box and the same links are showing up. So, not the phone.

Additionally, they are viglink, which does not appear to be an Alphabet property. I'm not thinking that Google is going to build a third-party advertiser into their OS, that can interface with all apps, AND it only happens on this website.

Well played.

The internet just thinks you're a socks maniac....
