Thinking of buying a Stinger, but I have quality issue concerns

GT68, yes an M5 would be sweet! I have a sunroof in my Honda Accord and never had an issue with noise / functionality. It's bone stock and never given me any issues beyond having to replace standard wear / tear stuff like rotors / brakes / tires / oil / etc.

Nice to hear about the exhaustive testing, and it just so happens I'm about 5'10" 165 lbs so perhaps I fit the profile perfectly! I think I am leaning towards waiting for the FY19s, but don't want to miss out on the lease rebates either....decisions, decisions.....
If you do buy one, make sure you go over the paint and every crevice before you buy. The main problem point is under the headlights. @KiaofMuncie said they have Stingers with peeling paint under the headlights on their lot. So it seems like this could happen from the factory. But I am still very happy with my Stinger and I have no doubt Kia will take care of it.

Put it this way, I complained to Kia about the crap subs in the HK system (crap at the time but are pretty good now after breaking them in) and they gave me 3 years free oil changes and tire rotations.

My Harman Kardon subwoofers sound better now than they did new. I didn't even know that subs needed a break in period till I read it here.

What's interesting about these online forums is it's tough to tell if you're just hearing from a vocal minority when it comes to issues or not. I've heard enough about the paint issues (and validated there was an actual manufacturing issue with the Stinger specialist in my area) to know they are real. I've looked at the other online polls here about the other issues. Regardless, no car is perfect, and I think the pros far, far outweigh any minor issues, the only question is when to pull the trigger to get the best combination of value / quality.

I don't do waiting well. Most of my car leases are done in less than a week, from spark to drive off.

Yep my health got me the car . Last year at 55 got bowel cancer , had major surgery, chemo and radiotherapy and beat it, it was my gift to myself for getting through cancer. Never regretted it!

I feel 100% the same way. Now considering G70 And MKZ ( but don't know if I can get over the fact that everyone I see the driver is over 70 no offense to anyone just not sure I'm there yet). Sorry, yes the other quality issue is the brake rotors. I am hoping to purchase after Nov. And probably a 19' model. I have been saying for over a year that the stinger was made for me but just can not get past the quality issues of late. I also heard of a very few side bolster issues with the G70. Anyway, good luck
The leather is exactly the same in the G70 so the leather wear concerns will not change. The audio control system is also the same.
I don't know about the paint job.

1 year of ownership and no complain.
Even the leather has hold up fine for me.

It’s how you get into the car that causes bolster rash. Sit your backside legs facing out then swing them round and in. No issues yet for me.

AV8R, so happy to hear that! I would do the same thing in your shoes! And I am convinced any excess leather wear is more personal than car issue (meaning how you get in / out of the car). Appreciate all the kind folks here chiming in. Will let everyone know when I pull the trigger.....

Just do what’s right for you as @AV8R points out life is too short & we should enjoy the time we have & for me the Stinger is enjoyable to own.

Yep WestcoastGT advised me to run down the street naked to celebrate but I have to draw the line somewhere!:rofl:

He was not thinking of other people’s quality of life, which would probably scare old ladies and children to death. Shame on him for trying to turn you into a serial killer ; )

My car has the sound system centering issue and had the hatch issue. Right now it has all kinds of other issues. Ever since i got it serviced by dealer it has been acting up on idling. This past Saturday after driving for 25+ miles the dash lit up like a Christmas tree and the car went into limp mode. Took it to the dealer on Tuesday at 8am and it has been there since. They were closed yesterday. They told me there were so many error codes it would several days before they can figure out what the cause is to fix it. They haven't called me back today on the status and i called a couple of times. They gave me a Soul to drive for now, but of course not the same. My Stinger only has 4k+ on it and I got it 12/2017. Maybe those numbers for KIA reliability doesn't count for the cars made in Korea....

Sorry to hear that.
You have no luck with your car. :(
Btw I don't get why they give you a Soul as a replacement, they don't have any K900 or at least cadenza?...

i was told they only have Souls as loaners.

Sorry to hear about your issues but mass produced products do tend to have a few in the batch that end up having issues but that doesn’t mean the whole line is affected. The Stinger is a completely new vehicle in its first year, there will be some issues however, KIA will correct it, give them some time. If the dealer doesn’t know what to do, they will be reaching out to the folks in Korea for guidance. They will get it sorted.

This thread has someone mentioning a high speed fuel pump went out and was replaced. They had similar issues as me. Plus I have had the coolant smell too.
Issue Number SA333 - 2018 Check Automatic Transmission Fluid Warmer Connector

I will call the dealership tomorrow and see if I can get ahold of someone or I will drive there to find out if the high fuel pump could be the issue. If so, more than one of the same issue on different same model items means its not an isolated incident.

Furthermore the dealership is not giving me details or status as promised and this time no call from KIA Consumer Support like before with sound system centering and rattle issue. In fact they eventually blew off the sound system centering issue as I never heard back.
