so I noticed minor damage to the right rocker panel on my new Stinger two days after I bought it. I put 600 miles ( long drives over a weekend)to break in the engine and assumed the dealer would recognize that there was no way I could have done it and accept responsibility. Well, the opposite happened and the GM said with those miles but only five days of ownership it was my problem. I sent him a photo with the damage taken when I discovered it and not received a response.

Do I suck it up and move on or do the BBB route?

why would you make that assumption? How is there “no way” it could have happened in 600 miles.

File a BBB complaint. Worst that happens is the tell you to kick rocks.

Even at 69, I still have more naivety than I realized. I assumed I would be believed and my honesty would not be questioned. As far as no way, I’m the only driver, and the flatness of the bottom indicated some mechanism pushed up on the part. I don’t have such a mechanism and never stopped anywhere that did. The picture that I sent was at 200 miles.

What good will it do you personally? And will it do anything to improve that business? Doubtful! It's a dealership! After all. Find a better one and ignore these people.

Back in the Marine Corps, it was known as giving somebody a case of red ass, and if that’s all I get , then I’m good.

Filing a BBB report is a futile effort and will net you nothing. This was possibly caused by you, but if it wasn’t, then take it as a lesson to do a more complete inspection on your next purchase.

I agree that this is a lesson learned for me.

Sorry to hear that the dealership may have damaged your new Stinger, which mechanism do you think caused the damage, if it was me , I would complain in person and get them to look at it, you would be surprised, how things might change if you make some noise about it in person, you got nothing to lose, sometimes they buckle if you just push enough, just a thought.

Show us a pic of the damage please.

How many mile were on the car when you bought it? How many after you noticed the damage?

Did you pick the car up in daylight and walk around it?

Did you not call the salesman/gm immediately after noticing? I can understand not having time to bring it back immediately... but telling them as son as you noticed may have helped.

Did you take a pic before your 600 mile road trip or earlier? Photos are time stamped... but still won’t help prove you didn’t damage it between delivery to 200 miles. Unless pic was taken very close to delivery.

I know that it may not have occurred to you to go over the car immediately... but it is a 50k object you took possession of. I go over every bloody inch of a new car once home (including with a camera and very bright lights to document it). Of course I look at the dealership too... but it isn’t always possible to look at that detail there. But 200 miles... of that is the first time you noticed... hard to prove much at that point.

Either way... good luck.

Not to be mean, just honest.

I think you'll look like a fool in filling a complaintin BBB, Google, etc.

You are making assumptions.

If you need to be angry with anybody, it's truly on you for not fully inspecting your car upon delivery.

Good luck and enjoy your new ride. She wasn't going to be perfect all that long anyway.

Trust me, if I had it to do over again...…………..

I agree with the others that the BBB will get you nowhere. There are dealer rating sites out there that you can use to warn other potential customers though.

I took my Stinger in to my local dealer for it's first service and due to other stories I've read on this forum, immediately looked the car over. Sure enough, both rocker panels had dents/creases from the car being lifted incorrectly. Luckily, I noticed it before I left the dealership and they did the right thing and had a bodyshop fix it at no cost to me.

Your issue is a little more complicated since you didn't notice until after your road trip. My guess is that your dealership did the same thing while performing an inspection before sale or even when the car was being unloaded off the truck. BUT I could be wrong. Sorry you have to deal with this.
