Terrible Option Packaging On the 2022 Stingers

When I got the G in manual there were no options to choose (just accessories). It came fully loaded (including a traditional sunroof). Coming from a car with ttops, this was a welcome change. Other than that, it was nicely equipped with all the features/options I'd choose anyway. It's a bit of a double edged sword. Give the customer too many options/packages to choose from and it gets confusing - look at gm. Too few and you end up with what we have now.

Just look in the last column of the attached pdf. Also note the level of detail. Specs like this are hard to come by these days for most cars.

Yeah, some of the stuff just gets ridiculous and yeah, it would increase my enjoyment .000032%, but it's not worth the 3% price increase.

Lights, I DGAF if they are HID, LED or laser, as long as they are bright and just because they are one of these does not mean they are brighter than the others.

Folding mirrors, don't care if they are there or not. If they are included for the price, like with Stinger, great.

That roadside crap connected assistant or whatever that I've never used on 5 cars, don't need that.

Navigation, it's never as good (updated for locations and traffic) as a phone, so no point.

Touchscreen anything.

Full LED/digital display. Don't care. I DO like combination dispays that merge the analog and digital aspect. The lower-end stinger isn't really this IMO, it's the same cluster from my Elantra GT N-line and that center digital display sometimes sticks out. This as compared to my GM Camaro 2SS 1LE. The digital display is "behind" the analog gauges and displays all kinds of stuff and seamlessly merges with little shadow light effects, really good combo. But back to the tech part, I don't care for a 100% digital display like Audi and others tout these days.

BMW was heavily promoting their harddrive to store music when I bought mine, it was something like at least $400, maybe more. And you can plug in a freaking USB and do the exact same thing, play music at random. Lemme see, add more weight and at a lot more cost...or not?

Power seats, meh. I don't adjust seats enough to ever care. Same with memory buttons. I can see a little benefit if you switch drivers, then it gets downright annoying, but if you aren't doing that often, the entire charade is just more weight with little real function. I move my seat up about 1/2" for track days, otherwise I never touch it. Those seat motors just sit there doing nothing, every day.

Power lift-gate. Don't really care. My BMW had it, stinger doesn't. Don't miss it.

Power steering-wheel tilt/lift. Same with power seats. My Mercedes had this, utterly pointless and IMO. It's not that I hate luxury, I just wish on cars where this is an option it is not packaged with stuff I want and that money goes towards something I do want or is useful.

Auto headlight control. This "seems" cool on paper, but I've noticed in my two last cars that it just keeps the high beams from coming on way too much. There are times I want to override it and I can, but it's just another step and I don't think it really outweighs the benefit. Maybe it'd be better if I lived in a more rural area.

360 cameras. No care. Backup cameras, sure, but 360? Meh.

The terrible all-season tires they put on most cars, let me switch them for some damn summer tires already...

High end leather seats. I actually like cloth seats a lot. I also don't like seat colors other than dark or black, since you never know when you might have something stuck to your butt.

There are things that I like though that I want, like:

Dimming mirrors
Heated mirrors (wow, in just the last few days I had to de-fog mirrors while driving)
Adaptive CC (not the lane-keep, I don't want that)
Alarm system
Rear cross-traffic
Blind-spot detection
Garage door transmitter
Keyless access
Sunroof
Heated steering wheel and heated front seats
Folding rear seats
Remote start

There are more things on both lists, but the point is you usually get into a situation where a bunch of crap that is almost never useful is going to be included in the "package" to get at what you want.

I remember the BMW owners making a big deal about the "m-sport seats". These were some seriously underwhelming seats. The suede recaros in my 1LE that hold me in a turn when I'm doing 1+ G are so far and beyond it's not even funny, but they always made a huge deal bout the "M-sport seats" and that you "have to get these". I dunno, maybe the regular seats sucked so much more, but that doesn't really bode well if that's the case.

Another option Kia killed for 2022 on all but the GT2 is the 'front park assist'... a really cheap move, formerly on every model, and very useful on a car with a low front end!
This could be a solution:

I had something similar on my Camaro and found it to be very effective. One great feature is the ability to adjust the detection range of the sensor for height and distance.

I should point out that I haven't attempted this on the Stinger and am not sure if the "PRO" model that I linked is the right choice for this car. They apparently sell a "universal" version as well.

I assumed that Kia axed options for cost savings reasons on a line that didn't justify having so many models. They also managed to improve the safety rating across all the trims so that probably had something to do with it as well.

I am sort of bummed that I don't have ventilated seats for my bum, but that it is only included on the high-end model doesn't surprise me.

Re Front parking assist... Easy solution, just back in :)

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...

Or stop driving a car like an SUV and ramming the wheel into the curb?

Definitely prefer to back in when possible. This can be awkward with angled spaces though.

If you don't know how tall the parking bumper is, and you want to move all the way in (for whatever reason), no amount of slow approach will save your bumper if you guess incorrectly. Your choices are to keep your distance from the parking bumper if circumstances allow and hope you don't get clipped in the back, get out of the car and examine it in person before you shut down, or pay $150 and listen for the beep-beep-beep-beeeeep and get on with life :)

Parking assist, front or rear, is just like all the other options/accessories, a matter of personal preference. Whatever package you end up with, you use the bells and whistles you like & find useful, and you ignore or tun off (if you can) those you don't need or want. The problem is, for 2022 Kia decided to dedicate a number of options previously offered on the GT-Line, GT & GT1's exclusively to the GT2's. The result? "Terrible Option Packaging On the 2022 Stingers"! A marketing strategy that's apparently not very popular on this here forum...

Details... minor details... I suppose if the angled parking is on a main street that could present a challenge. Our local post office is sort of like that. If no traffic I'll back in, otherwise i'll park in the employee lot (further away). Too many weird people parking close.

I have a Camaro 1LE with a low aggressive splitter, but is far from my first rodeo. I see people attempting to rip bumpers off of SUVs at work all the time, since most of these have aggressive air-dams these days for aero-efficiency reasons. I never understood the "pull up over the curb" thing. On sidewalks, it's a d*ck-move, since you are taking up space where people walk and not everyone is as able-bodied as the person that decided to pull in like that.

Yeah, you become accustomed to the length/overhang of your car, and you don't pull up forward enough so that your splitter/bumper is touching over hanging over the curb. If you are worried about getting clipped in the back, there are probably 15 crew-cab trucks sticking out that will get hit long before you do.

I guess I just don't understand why anyone wants to get their bumper over the parking curb...

Not necessarily sidewalk or curb:

parking.webp

And it may be the crew cab truck parked next to you that clips you on the way out if the aisle is narrow or the cars behind him/you didn't pull all the way in.

Yeah, I guess I never saw those as wheel-stops. Pretty much every car has something hanging down there for aero now that will clip if you ram your wheel on it. Pickup truck, probably not. I just never see it as worthwhile to chance ripping the bottom of my bumper off.

If you bought this for the tightest parking spots...maybe re-evaluate? That's where my Elantra GT N-line would have been better. It wasn't higher, maybe even lower, but a lot shorter in length.

Not sure if directed at me, but I offered the curb alert as a solution for the poster who lamented that one of the 2022 trims does not include it. I am also not sure why anyone would oppose a simple device that could save hundreds in bodywork regardless of the physical parking situation, or discourage someone else choosing to use said device. There are far worse ways to spend money and effort.

Anyhow, problem surfaced, solution offered. I'm out of this thread. PM me if you want to continue the discussion.
