When I got the G in manual there were no options to choose (just accessories). It came fully loaded (including a traditional sunroof). Coming from a car with ttops, this was a welcome change. Other than that, it was nicely equipped with all the features/options I'd choose anyway. It's a bit of a double edged sword. Give the customer too many options/packages to choose from and it gets confusing - look at gm. Too few and you end up with what we have now.
Just look in the last column of the attached pdf. Also note the level of detail. Specs like this are hard to come by these days for most cars.
Yeah, some of the stuff just gets ridiculous and yeah, it would increase my enjoyment .000032%, but it's not worth the 3% price increase.
Lights, I DGAF if they are HID, LED or laser, as long as they are bright and just because they are one of these does not mean they are brighter than the others.
Folding mirrors, don't care if they are there or not. If they are included for the price, like with Stinger, great.
That roadside crap connected assistant or whatever that I've never used on 5 cars, don't need that.
Navigation, it's never as good (updated for locations and traffic) as a phone, so no point.
Touchscreen anything.
Full LED/digital display. Don't care. I DO like combination dispays that merge the analog and digital aspect. The lower-end stinger isn't really this IMO, it's the same cluster from my Elantra GT N-line and that center digital display sometimes sticks out. This as compared to my GM Camaro 2SS 1LE. The digital display is "behind" the analog gauges and displays all kinds of stuff and seamlessly merges with little shadow light effects, really good combo. But back to the tech part, I don't care for a 100% digital display like Audi and others tout these days.
BMW was heavily promoting their harddrive to store music when I bought mine, it was something like at least $400, maybe more. And you can plug in a freaking USB and do the exact same thing, play music at random. Lemme see, add more weight and at a lot more cost...or not?
Power seats, meh. I don't adjust seats enough to ever care. Same with memory buttons. I can see a little benefit if you switch drivers, then it gets downright annoying, but if you aren't doing that often, the entire charade is just more weight with little real function. I move my
seat up about 1/2" for track days, otherwise I never touch it. Those
seat motors just sit there doing nothing, every day.
Power lift-gate. Don't really care. My BMW had it, stinger doesn't. Don't miss it.
Power steering-wheel tilt/lift. Same with power seats. My Mercedes had this, utterly pointless and IMO. It's not that I hate luxury, I just wish on cars where this is an option it is not packaged with stuff I want and that money goes towards something I do want or is useful.
Auto headlight control. This "seems" cool on paper, but I've noticed in my two last cars that it just keeps the high beams from coming on way too much. There are times I want to override it and I can, but it's just another step and I don't think it really outweighs the benefit. Maybe it'd be better if I lived in a more rural area.
360 cameras. No care. Backup cameras, sure, but 360? Meh.
The terrible all-season tires they put on most cars, let me switch them for some damn summer tires already...
High end leather seats. I actually like cloth seats a lot. I also don't like
seat colors other than dark or black, since you never know when you might have something stuck to your butt.
There are things that I like though that I want, like:
Dimming mirrors
Heated mirrors (wow, in just the last few days I had to de-fog mirrors while driving)
Adaptive CC (not the lane-keep, I don't want that)
Alarm system
Rear cross-traffic
Blind-spot detection
Garage door transmitter
Keyless access
Sunroof
Heated steering wheel and heated front seats
Folding rear seats
Remote start
There are more things on both lists, but the point is you usually get into a situation where a bunch of crap that is almost never useful is going to be included in the "package" to get at what you want.
I remember the BMW owners making a big deal about the "m-sport seats". These were some seriously underwhelming seats. The suede recaros in my 1LE that hold me in a turn when I'm doing 1+ G are so far and beyond it's not even funny, but they always made a huge deal bout the "M-sport seats" and that you "have to get these". I dunno, maybe the regular seats sucked so much more, but that doesn't really bode well if that's the case.
