Surprised how noisy new GT Premium is on rough roads

I’ve actually been considering dumping the Stinger for Genesis.
Do you have knowledge of the Genesis not "cutting corners"? The price is very similar.

A lot of vehicles are engineered to a price point. Over time they will get this right but, keep in mind, for the price and performance, building in things to match the competition will mean an increase in price. KIA is not alone in this though, I test drove a Volvo XC60 T8 recently and the noise level was higher than the Stinger but closer to my 2017 Optima Hybrid. This is a $70k vehicle, loads of luxury appointments, comfy seats but as you know, they have a 4 cylinder engine strategy and the T8 adds an electric plug-in hybrid system.

Folks are still buying them, much like folks are buying the Stinger, despite some of the shortcomings. There is a lot to love as well as ares that could use some improvements but overall it’s a great package.

A # of areas where Genesis hasn't cut corners, specifically the G70 (compared to the Stinger).

1. Sound-proof glass and more insulation;
2. Upgraded suspension bits;
3. All interior metal trim and switchgear in the G70 is real metal as opposed to a mix in the Stinger.

Better soundproof glass? Because the Stinger has double layer glass to reduce wind noise. More insulation: where can we read about this? More than the base Stinger or more than the GT/Premium, or more than the GT1/2? I'm still unsure about any differences in the MY18 trims insulation-wise. Did Kia "pad" the higher trims with more insulation? Does the G70 have more insulation than any Stinger?

Merlin, drive a G80 to hear the difference. When you consider the price point and what it competes against, you can see why we would prefer it to be quieter. I'm sure down the road as more people bring this up and the dealers pass the info along, they might add thicker glass and more sound insulation. A quick look at my windows tells me there was room for thicker glass to go in that door.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...

Hmm, c. $5-6K difference? How much insulation does that get you? Wouldn't most of the price difference by technological?

And, what a puny cargo area! Would you give up the Stinger's refrigerator-size and x2 cargo capacity to get a little bit quieter ride? The G80 is a dull design, imho. There are far, far more interesting/fun cars for that kind of money.

Well, since it is marketed against the 5 Series and E class, it has similar level of insulation. Can't go by that price thing as teh 5 series with a 4 cylinder starts higher than the Genesis.

Yes. The genesis has quite a bit of acoustic application on the chassis and body components which were 100% removed in the Stinger to keep costs down.
Then the G70 must be one quiet ride. There is more than one approach to quieting an interior. I guess the only way I will ever know of any differences is if I go drive a G70.

G80 comparison. Are you saying that the G70 compares closely enough to the G80 to make the same comparison vis-a-vis road noise with the Stinger? He asserts the lack of shielding in the rear is a cost cutting measure. But I don't see what he's getting at:
g80 stinger underside.webp
Is he saying that if he showed the underside of the rear of the G80 (G70), that it would sport a lot of underbody shielding or something? Is that really going to be a chunk of that $10K more to get into a G80?
