Surprise! My MY18 is actually an MY19!

You’re laughing then. I wonder how the dealer got a 19 model without knowing about it. And whether they have any more.
Apparently the manager knew, but the sales person I was dealing with at first got it wrong.

They told me they are having a slow month so I'm sure they will have more for a good price to meet their quota.

Yes. I sure do ride an R6. That's me and her in my pic. She's great.

And I was waiting for someone to make the 1989 comment hahahaha. ;)

You and she look super cool.

I had a very smaller (engine) version of the R series (R15) when I was in India for 5 years. Always wanted to get R1 or R6 since I moved to states. But most probably would end up getting MT-09.

There is no 19 in the vin. If anything theres 17 in the last 4 numbers..... Hmmmm. That was concerning. Lol.

Update : I looked this up online. It says the 10th character (or 8th character from the right... However you like to read it) denotes the year of the car. My 10th character is a K, so I looked up their chart and yes a K denotes 2019 model.

My VIN has a J.

Alcohol does the same job for me and I don’t need to wear a helmet. :)

Although, come to think of it there have been times when a helmet would have come in handy.
Or the leathers......

Indeed she would. I am just 29 and have started having shoulder and back pain. In future, if I do start doing track days, R6 is the only choice for me.
I'm an exercise physiologist and was a fitness trainer for 20 years so I know all about injuries..... Others and my own. I don't envy you in this regard. Sorry to hear it

Ambient lighting was the main one, and when I went for a drive with two other Stinger's some small differences were picked up which for the life of me I can't recall lol. Stinger GT SS might remember.....
Yes, it has ambient lighting, stainless steel trunk trim, these are the visual items I noted, not sure if it has more tech & although it didn’t have Michelin tyres I think these are a $500 upgrade/option here in OZ.
But it didn’t have Mud Flaps, LED Reverising Lights, painted Rear Lip Spoiler or Carbon Fibre Engine Cover....lol @FitR6 will get the joke.

Hahahahaha. No. Only YOUR special edition Stinger has those wonderful accessories. Don't forget the door hinge covers, though Shannon has ordered me some when he ordered his own. :geek:

Hahahaha, yes I forgot about the door hinge covers, did you also order the SS Door Striker Covers?
Gotta love special editions, that’s what I like about customisation, you can individualise your car to suit your personal tastes. Nice of @ShannonC to hook you up a set.

Mudflaps and LED reverse lights are getting done in a couple weeks, so I'm catching up slightly.

Thought I'd share this with you. I have been in contact with Kia head office Australia for the past few weeks trying to see why I cannot log into their site with my vin for the capped price service owners guide, and after a few exchanged emails they told me they finally figured out it is because they haven't yet updated it with all the MY19 model cars. I told them mine is an 18. They told me no.... Mine is a 19. I was shocked. It didn't state anything on my compliance plates, my rego, nor my sales contract. I just contacted the yard I bought it from and they confirmed that I do indeed have the MY19 (the initial sales guy gave me the wrong information as he told me he was selling me the MY18).

Anyhow, that might be why my car has some of the extras that others on the forum have stated there's doesn't have! I feel a little chuffed by this news, especially since I got it for a really good price. I thought I was getting it cheaper because it was the older year model. :geek:
That’s great, certainly explains the differences. When I asked my service department about the ambient lighting and showed them the pics of yours they told me they’d call the service manager at your dealership and ask about it, then never got back to me about it. Seems the different MY explains it. Glad you got a good deal. Just checked my VIN based on one of your other posts. Mine has a J so definitely a 2018 :( but I still love it

I looked at the ambient light in @FitR6 new Stinger in the hope we could have just had our models “plugged in”, but alas the lights are underneath the arm rests for starters you would need to change out complete driver & passenger door cards & then the dash would need the led install as well, this accessory alone will always mark the difference from the 1st model ie: MY18.

I didn’t realise they were in the doors as well. It’s a shame we missed out when other markets got it for the MY18. It’s poor form from Kia to not put all of the available features in the top line model in any market, it’s not like these cars are cheap and if you buy the top of the line you expect all the bells and whistles. Whether it’s ambient lighting in Australia, 360 degree camera in the USA, large Stinger script & E badges in Korea, the top line model should be the same the world over, only difference is what side the steering wheel sits.

Although I tend to agree with you, but I guess Kia has to hold some things back to add to next years model, although ambient lighting would be a nice accessory to have its not the be all or end all for me, I’m glad we got 360 degree camera which is more beneficial in day to day driving, I don’t do that much night driving so what’s the point of ambient lighting, cannot see it during the day.

True. I barely drive at night as well.
