3.3TT Supporting Mods for JB4 MAP 2/3

My 0.02 cents worth.......Once you leave MAP 1, regardless of fuel enhancement, the old "tuner's" oath comes into play......" leave extra HP on the table for the sake of SAFETY"......i would back off until the plugs were replaced.......even with the good looking runs, BAD things can still happen.
“If it can it will” I tend to agree with you. I’ve consistently ran maps 1-4 but I’ve read so many conflicting stories on..... re-gapping your stock plugs vs. HKS plugs vs NGK plugs that the only logical thing I think is to cough up the extra bucks and do it right the whole way with the HKS plugs and be confident. I just hate to be able to run smooth and clean in MAP4 right now on my re gapped stock Densos when I’ve heard all about HKS plugs blowing on Maps 2/3? ‍♂️ No winning this gamble just pay for high quality and pray it works out for 10-15k miles

Anybody out there running hfc primary downpipe with JB4. If there is are you getting cel with that set up.

This is a combination of "experience and knowledge".....one of the main reasons (if not THE reason) for the HKS/Denso "colder" plugs/tighter gap, is that by going to higher MAPS, you are asking the jb4 to "request" higher boost levels from the turbo......when this happens, the pressure/heat in your cylinders goes up A LOT, especially on the "compression" stroke and the "spark" has to be able to ignite at those higher pressures/heat levels (shorter gap). the HKS/Denso plugs are a step "colder" which, by definition, allows that extra heat to dissipate better from the plug which, reduces the risk of igniting the air/fuel mixture BEFORE the spark event. If this happens, BAD, BAD, things can be the result. The stock plugs are pretty good but they have been selected along with the gap to compensate for this event under STOCK conditions. They may hold up for a while but I would not trust them long-term especially if going to MAPS higher than 1

Thank you so much Terry, we all rely on each other’s input and yours carries a ton of weight with it. You’re the backbone to running JB4s. My ignition was worrying me since I just re-gapped my stock plugs instead of replacing them. Do you think I should still replace them with HKS or since my car is running smoothly just stick with the OEMS? Someone on here said you get a minor hp bump upgrading but I’d rather run smooth and clean which I am after re-gapping and I’ve ran up to Map 4 smoothly.

Once you regap the factory plugs they are usually fine. As a general rule if its not misfiring and is pulling smooth, then the plugs are fine, IMHO. :)
