Sunset Yellow's Out, and the Dealers will KILL the Stinger.....

I will run a search tomorrow. If I can get one I will let you know. You would not be disappointed.

Hi Jason! Thanks for chiming in. I appreciate that you don't take the Stingers for personal use! I am looking for an AWD Ceramic Silver GT1 with black interior. Your website shows you don't have one. Thanks for the offer, but it is unlikely that I would purchase using this method.

I can personally vouch for Jason and Kia of Muncie. Best dealer I've ever dealt with, best treatment, the whole nine yards. I got photos of the odometer of the car, and it was spotless.

If you decide to give them a shot, you will not be disappointed. I would drive back to them for another car, my wife and I were treated that well. My step-daughter also bought a car from them the next day and was treated similarly well. These guys are no bullshit, and will stand by what they tell you.

Galeana(SP?) Kia in Columbia, SC has one and they worked with me on my Stinger. I got them down 3k below their sticker price which was already 2k below the other dealership in Columbia, SC.

i agree on all points. over the years, i have dealt with dealerships that were amazing, but their cars were horrible, and fantastic cars that i needed a pedigree to step into the actual showroom. best defense is to call kia n.a. and put in a complaint. when they actually see what these dealerships are doing, they will have to put a stop to it. if they don't, then we will all know that it isn't about customer satisfaction but the almighty dollar. but, really, the best answer is to buy it somewhere else, and then just splash it on social media. nothing like losing a sale to the neighboring state, 550 miles! damn!, and crowing about it to everyone.

Helo58 I have some info on the GT1 you are looking for if you want to reach out to me. Thank you for considering KIA of Muncie.

Eventually the entire sales model of cars will change. Tesla punched through with it's large success of selling direct, despite many state laws (built over time by Dealer influence), where defeated, paving the way for direct sales. The first big example and success I saw of this was Apple saying that CompUSA and Best Buy, all horrible experiences (back in the day they were). Apple opened their own stores in malls. Many scoffed at such a move to sell direct. Fast forward to 2017 and Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, all have stores selling direct to give the best customer experience with same pricing across the board, reseller or direct.

Will the auto industry not slowly flow to this model? Rivian will be coming out with their own vehicles sooner than later, and I can only imagine they will also sell direct. I can see a division of GM, maybe Cadillac or Buick, perhaps BMW's Mini brand, branching off and slowly setting up their own dealerships selling direct. Over time, some big automotive maker will flinch and make a move with a few prototype sales selling directly in a state that can give the least resistance. It'll work and it'll spread. It'll just take time...

In the information age, I wouldn't say that you can take dealer markups as business status quo anymore. People know where their money is going and how "rare" their special car actually is. Dealer markups are dying IMHO, and the MFG won't have to have anything to do with it.

Plenty of articles about Dodge preventing the Demon markups. Also plenty of articles about Honda's rep being hurt by markup on the TypeR Civic. Information age will get you...
The dealer I went to tried to bump a stinger gt2 rwd price up by 10k for yellow and another 900 for being a stinger.

Did you pay the extra loot?

I considered the Ceramic Silver but luckily preferred the Black. They insisted the Silver and Yellow carried a $5k surchage as limited editions.

Ceramic Silver is "Limited" too now...that's rich!

I suppose, now that i think about it, there were less Ceramic Silver within 500 miles of me then there were Sunset Yellow (based on cars.com list anyway.)

Make them an offer. If they won't take it today they will at some point. By the end of the year these things will be selling well below MSRP. It's simple economics. I just got a GT2 AWD 4% below MSRP (and that's in Seattle where cars are often even more expensive). If the dealer sucks, find another. I have no problem driving hours, if it means a better dealership. I give my money to the dealerships who treat me with respect.

Agreed, the greedy ones will keep their stock until they realize people wont pay the markup. A local one to me still has there Yellow one at $60K and i can only hope an uniformed buyer doesnt waltz in there are take it at that price. Hell, for $60K I'll sell my Yellow one in a second!!!!

Unfortunately, a few us find ourselves at the mercy of 1 or 2 specific dealers in a 200-300 mile radius based on the trim/color combo we want. There is one car that fits what I want to buy within 250 miles. This particular car was used by the dealership owner for personal use, so I am not interested in it. The fewer people that beat on my potential car during the break-in period, the better. I am sure these get beat on during the test drive.

A few have suggested driving 5+ hours to buy a car, and that may work for some, but not me. I'm afraid at this point, my enthusiasm has waned. When the car debuted, I was so excited. Came really close to pulling the trigger twice! Dealers ruined it though. Now, the idea of entering a KIA dealership fills me with more negativity than excitement simply because of the runaround, sales methods, and gimmicks to make money at all costs. I understand that many reading this will say it is just business, but there has to be some point in the process where you actually respect the buyer. As a business owner, I respect my customers and I expect the same when I am a customer of another business. When dealers have stuff like, "market-based pricing" (where they claim they know more than you do), $900 documentation fees, $2500 paint protection, $500 nitrogen filled tires, 20 year (wink wink) warranties, low-ball trade values, spiking interest rates above what you qualify for, no transfers between dealers on Stingers, etc. I think the whole model of car buying is seriously flawed these days. I actually do remember when folks used to actually sell you a car. Now they just expect you to buy one with little to no effort made on their part.

Unfortunately i have to agree on all of this. My color combo happened to be close enough that i was willing to "fight" for it and eventually got the deal i wanted.

The first trip, however, i was told..."this would be quicker if you paid the sticker"

that is disgusting, but it is not unheard of. especially, like was posted, when you have a limited amount of dealerships to haggle with. have you tried costco auto program? they have to honor the price if the dealership is listed with costco. also, how about a mini vacation? you know what you are looking for, you know the options and you know how much you want to spend. this way, you take the mrs out for a weekend, you hit up the dealership, you tell them the price, they agree, you get a car. if they don't, you still got a nice weekend and the mrs is appreciative ;) just be sure to name your next born after me

I actually like the idea of a mini-vacation and had not thought about doing this. That should give you some idea of how bad this process has been. The more I think about it though, why ruin a good vacation with a trip to a dealership. Haha. I know there are 2 dealers that are some distance from me and have the car. I have not reached out to them yet because of the distance. My fear is that they will be just as bad as the ones here.

Oh, and to add to the list of negative dealer things, get this new one I never knew about... In my area, a large SE metropolitan area, there are certain "names" who own MANY dealerships including multiple KIA locations in and out of the same city and other brand dealerships. A trade value was placed on my car at a non-KIA dealer in one of those "chains" of dealers and that same value was given to me at a KIA dealership in the same chain. It seems that once the offer is in the chain company computer, they use it as if it were the factual value at any other dealership in the chain. Simply because it was previously quoted, this is part of their market research. SMH...

(Voices quietly whispering, "Walk away, walk away.")

funny, but, i purchased my stinger from one of those mega dealerships that is owned by a "name" that is well known in the south. this dealership was actually comparable in price with the 2 other dealerships i went to. besides the fact that they had no problem with how i was dressed and allowed me to take a stinger out for a test drive, which the other two did not. try one of the sites that will search out cars for you at your price point, reach out to them, see if they are willing. then, you pit the dealers against each other. i know that when the mrs wanted her juke nismo rs, there was literally one, 1!, black one in all of south florida and 4 dealerships listed it that they were the only ones selling it. so, a bidding war ensued, in reverse, to who would get our business. and, in the end, we got it for 8 grand cheaper than the cheapest price quoted. 8 grand!!!! then it was stolen. but that is neither here nor there. you have the money, you have the power. contact everyone and tell them what you are willing to pay. good luck and post back about your success with photos of a huuuuuuge smokey burnout.

I hate to tell you, but no, the dealers do NOT have to honor the Costco pricing. There are a few on here even of dealers not honoring the Costco price. It's just like 'TrueCar' with those useless quotes. Unless the dealer sends it to you, from them, with every single thing listed then it's not a quote from them. I had 2 not honor quotes.

I wish everyone the best in getting the Stinger they want. I think everyone should go to those good dealers who help us and let the others ones keep their inventory.

I just got extremely lucky with getting my Sunset Yellow, as I was prepared to do without a Stinger.
