Has anyone decides on the re-purchase option?

My correspondence with both my dealership and concierge has been very prompt and concise so far, until I brought up the re-purchase option. My Yellow GT AWD is currently being painted, I might not see it for a month or two because of my work schedule...

I asked for specific numbers of what I would be receiving from the re-purchase. I’m hoping every dime I’ve thrown at the thing including my trade-in credit. My goal is to use that money to get into a GT2 AWD (ceramic silver with red interior).

Has anyone else gone with the re-purchase and received a detailed layout of the compensation? KIA seems to be tip-toeing around this subject.

I contacted my rep and they connected me with Kia HQ who is handling the repurchase/replacements. After sending my sales contract, registration, payment history and receipts for everything I added to the car they sent me a detailed letter of all three options. Takes about 60 days to complete the process.

1. Trade straight for a brand new Stinger of any color other than yellow. Or you can choose any Kia of equivalent value. A more expensive Kia would require you to pay the difference. No restriction on model year. If the car is paid in full they do a title swap and cover your licensing fees. If it’s financed, they work with the finance company to swap the title. I imagine if it’s not Kia financial it’ll be a bit more paperwork. With Kia financial it’s seemless.

2. Buyback is simple... You get back your down payment, taxes and licensing fees, trade allowance and all payments made to your finance company and Kia also pays off the balance of your loan. If you had negative equity in your trade that would be deducted. Honestly, if you had a lot of negative equity and not a great interest rate, the buyback might be the best thing. You can turn around and buy a new Stinger and either get their 0.9% financing option for 48/60/66 months or take advantage of $7600 lease cash on the 2018s. I did the math and even with Kia offering the $5K for repainting, doing the buyout and taking advantage of the lease cash option and paying the car off with a 1.9 credit union loan I’d be further ahead. The lease cash wasn’t available when I purchased my Stinger.

3. Repaint and get 5K.

Of course... all three options require some time. And if you love the yellow you’re stuck. I’m trying to hold out for the 2019’s since they are supposed to offer the Pantera Metal in the GT2 trim and then I’ll do the buyout. If Kia will offer me a PM GT2 with the full 3M PPF and all the dealer add-ons that I currently have at no cost I may just do the swap since I have the 0.9% financing already.

I've already sent in my paper with the buyback as the option...She called me last week and said she got my payoff from my finance company and when everything is complete I will get a call from them. We will then set up a date to surrender the vehicle to the dealer and my check would be at the dealer. I would imagine this won't be much longer, although she did reiterate that it could still take 60 days, but I wopuldn't think you would contact the lender and get the payout now if you're not ready to go..wouldn't make sense as that can change.

I’m leasing through KIA. Did they give you an exact number for your reimbursement prior to having to commit to it?

I want to be able to walk in the day I surrender it, with the check and give that check right back to them for a GT2, which I would obviously pre-arrange.

Yes, there was a number and it covered everything Christopher mentioned above. Of course she said that could change if I had to make any more payments between now and time of completion.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...

Why did you choose the buyback vs. just swapping for a GT2? Just curious as I'm trying to weigh which is the better route... swapping the car or taking the buyback and just purchasing again.

I have a GT not a GT2, therefore a “swap” isn’t an option. I could swap into the same trim GT of a different color. The buyout will prob be most bang for the buck, so once I get details and I figure out if I can get into that GT2 for a similar payment I’m will go that route. If it doesn’t look good for that route, I’ll keep the yellow and pocket the 5k.

I have a feeling it may turn into a “free” upgrade into a GT2 all said and done, all things considered.

Yea, the option for swapping was for the similar model. I told them I would swap for a gt1 which I originally wanted until I saw my GT in yellow and settled because of the color. So had to go buyback and will find a new GT1 (or Gt2) and go for that. May even wait for the 2019 depending on when they are coming out.
