Hi everyone I’m new here I just signed up and I wanted some opinions on my situation.

I have been waiting 8 months for the stinger to become available in the u.s. and I had my mind set on a awd gt2 but I found out that a few dealerships may get the limited edition 1 of 400 sunset yellow version and my dealership near me is likely to get one and I put money down to have first dibs at buying the car when and if it arrives.

So I really have 2 questions:

Is the limited edition worth paying over sticker and will that be common practice for the lucky dealerships that will receive them?

And for my final question:

Since the limited edition is suppose to be rwd with lsd and other unique options is it truly a downgrade to get rwd versus the awd I had my heart set on?

Welcome aboard, @Expert4! Thank you for signing up. Let's see... I do hear that limited edition Sunset Yellow is going to be marked up. And considering there's already mark-ups on many Stinger GTs, it's not hard to believe. Let me ask... What's your next favorite color outside of Sunset Yellow?

1) yes expect the dealers to have a mark-up. If people will pay it is another question.
2) where are you at? Somewhere you don't have a winter? If you don't have to worry about snow the rwd with LSD is the way to go. If you have to deal with snow, if it was me I wouldn't think twice. AWD all the way.

I live in Minnesota but I have a awd sorento which my wife drives most of the time and an optima which I can drive in winter.

Orange was the color I really wanted but they don’t offer that color so yellow is a decent consolation prize.

Hmm. It sounds like you don't really have a plan B so I think your only option is the limited edition Stinger. If you don't want to pay extra you could be waiting a while - or you may not be able to get one at all. It really depends on what the demand is like - and how many people are willing to pay an extra fee...

Haha, I'm in MN too, after spending 2 hours and 45 minutes driving to the cities the other day (normally takes 45) in my fwd Optima. Saw about 40 cars in the ditch. I would never get an rwd car..

Welcome Expert4,
I agree with Chris, if you drive in snow, buy the AWD, if not the RWD. It is so interesting to see how KIA markets the Stinger in different countries, the US is being offered a Limited Edition Sunset Yellow, and yet here in Australia we have a choice to order that colour, maybe the US might get Deep Chroma Blue next as a Limited Edition.

I didn’t say I wasn’t willing to pay the extra. I already made deal to pay 5k over sticker but I can opt out for any reason if I don’t like the car when it arrives. Yellow is the #1 color option I want for available colors since it is limited but I’m torn cause I want awd but I can’t have both so I’m trying to figure out how to decide between the two options.

I currently drive a 2015 optima sx in white and I see about 3 of them a day so I’m intrigued by possibly getting a special color.

As u can see my winter rims and tires are meant to look different from all the other white Kia Optima I pass daily.

Very nice Optima! Those red wheels go well. Honestly, not something I would do - but I never really thought I'd say that looked good. It does. So you like to stand out from the crowd... Well, you COULD have everything your way but you'd need to get the AWD and have the car wrapped. I think, ultimately, that would be your best bet. I'm not sure what it costs to have a car wrapped but you could just pay $5k less, get a non-limited edition AWD and pay the difference for the wrap.

For 5 grand over MSRP?? Buy a damn white one with AWD and spend the 5k to have it painted Orange. (And it will probably be more than 5k, I imagine the MSRP will be higher for the limited edition)

No need for Orange paintwork, even better, have it wrapped in Orange, if it comes to worse, the wrap can always be removed years later.

I guess I thought more people would be interested in the limited edition sunset yellow. With only 400 available I just don’t want to pass up an opportunity I might regret. It’s too bad they didn’t decide to make it in awd.

I think we've all had our fill of mark-ups as it is. Most of us are disappointed in the fact that we can't get all the exterior colors, especially ones we really like, without again having to pay more. It seems there are a lot of things we need to pay more for here in the U.S. It isn't that we're not interested in the special edition - we're just accustomed to getting great deals with Kia and not having to overpay for things other counties get without having to do so.

I’m guessing the demand versus availability on the standard models will balance out after the second inventory run arrives at dealerships the week of the Super Bowl when they have the big launch for the stinger. I haven’t seen any standard models in my area selling for over sticker but they are scarce in availability for gt or gt2 right now.

True, that's not going to last forever (mark-ups). In fact, not for much longer at all. When is the special edition supposed to be launched? Any idae?

I will find out if the dealership is getting the yellow one in about 5-7 days. If they get it which is by winning a sales competition it will arrive one week after Super Bowl which would be when the main inventory batch also arrives at all u.s. dealerships.

Well, I guess you have about five weeks to make a decision. I hope we can help!

Is it “worth” paying markup for a special color? I don’t think my pride would let me, and if I wanted it that bad I’d call a few body shops to see what it would cost to have my car painted any color I wanted.

As far as RWD; with a set of snow tires on hand, you’re not missing out on much. RWD won’t have the increased ride height that AWD does, and IMO would be preferable in the dry.
