Stinger Launch Issues - Waiting to buy.....

I'm contemplating waiting, but for different reasons. 1) I generally buy slightly used cars. I'm wondering how cheap a 2018 Stinger will be once the 2019 arrives. 2) I would hate to buy the 2018 and then the 2019 has the missing features restored.

I can't speak for everyone else, but in the south it seems that the Stinger is selling a good deal below MSRP. So that isn't really a concern. I also wonder if the 2018 Stinger becomes a hit does the 2019 cost substantially more to the point where it exceeds what I like paying for cars. So right now I'm kind of in Stinger limbo. More than likely I get the 2018. If our trims were like say Mexico, then I would have already purchased the "GT Line"

If this car starts taking off and selling like hotcakes, I think that would be a good indicator that the price might go up a bit for 2019 - especially if it has more features than the 2018...

Well....I figure after the Detroit Auto show next week and a couple of months to let supply level off at the dealerships, things will settle down. Certainly by April when the G70 launches I bet things will be calmer. As for 2019 Stingers being more expensive, I doubt it. This is a cool car, but the 2019 Mercs, BMWs and others will continue to drive competition.

The US version should get the missing features that everyone else got: 360 Camera, Wireless Charging and Rear heated seats.

I don't think so. Even if it has more features, they probably keep the same price. I think you'd just see continued markups.

^^^this. I love Kia and the Stinger, but I think some people are drinking too much of the kool-aid. This car isn't going up in price in the US next year. Not only do they have to compete with these other luxury manufacturers, but they have to compete with Genesis which offers valet maintenance and all that.

Yeah, I feel pretty much the same way. I'm waiting for the 2019's to see if it will have the missing features and colors. And I'm not paying more than msrp too. It will all work out, they just need time to get supply up.

If you wait til 2019 you probably won’t get the car til 2020!

Yes but I don’t want to see everyone driving it. The same thing happened with the Optima. If it does the car devalues quicker.

Which means the insane markups stop, the price levels off and the lease deals get better.

That's my concern as well,abd one of the reasons I'd feel better getting mine early. One of the cars I like is the Charger, but I won't buy one because where I'm from every young black guy drives a Charger (Btw I'm a young-ish black guy). I'd rather pay more for rarity than to pay less for ubiquity. It's weird, but it's how I feel.

I’m assuming the 2019 modes will come after summer and we will know if they plan on adding the “missing” stuff by late spring.

I’m hoping to order and avoid the first year mark ups. I asuume they’re much more rediculous in So Cal and I can do enough research to find a dealer willing to take an order without the markup.

Welcome aboard, @FilmMixer! Thank you for signing up. I can understand waiting on those possible extra features. But it's possible to get a great deal on a Stinger now - you just need to work on it. If you walk into a dealership ready to buy without negotiating, chances are you're going to pay markups... Otherwise, I have a strong feeling we're not going to know which extra features come in the 2019 until they're in showrooms. If this even truly happens - it would be a tremendous mistake for Kia to let this information slip out as they'd be left with a lot of 2018s that wouldn't sell. So don't expect to hear anything in any convenience time frame...

Good points. I’d just regret it too much if the 360 camera appears. They should at the least add a tech/lux package with all the missing features IMO.

I’m lucky that I have a year left on my lease so it’s a good excuse to wait .

Yes, 100%. I just don't see any real validation coming - at least officially - any time soon. But, in this case, employee's word may be good enough considering how odd it was that the 2018 is missing the surround view camera feature in the U.S...
