Stinger Launch Control

Thank you, Shieldzee! This is great news! Here's a little bit from the article:

Yonhapnews said:
Kia Motors Corp., South Korea's second-biggest carmaker by sales, on Tuesday unveiled the high-performance features of its Stinger sports sedan ahead of the planned launch next month.

The car will be domestically available in three trims fitted with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine, a 3.3 twin-turbo V6, and a 2.2 diesel four-cylinder mill all mated to eight-speed automatic gear box, the company said in a statement.

The 3.3-liter with 370 horsepower on tap and 52.0 kilogram-force meter of torque can push the car from naught to 100 kilometers per hour in 4.9 seconds, it said.

The all-wheel drive Stinger also carries a launch control function, an electric aid to assist drivers in accelerating rapidly from a standing start.

Some more bits of information in this article. I did not know that there was going to be launch control.

This is the first mention of such a feature I have seen.

It also appears to be "AWD Only". Interesting. Might help with our notion that the AWD version will be slightly faster in a straight line.

The 8-speed auto BMW 340i also has a similar feature. I believe the BMW even switches the adjustable dampers to "comfort mode" to aid in weight transfer during acceleration.

Good to see Kia going "option for option" (down to this level) against its German rivals.

The starting price of the new model, fully equipped, will be in the upper end of the 30-million-won range (about US$27,000), a company spokesman said, adding the prices will be announced in mid May when the Stinger is set to be launched.

hey thats pretty good

They are SO good at this sort of thing. That's why everyone has been chasing after them for so long. It's really great to see Kia giving BMW a run for their money...

I am not sure how that will translate to the US market. But the Cadenza (which is V6 only, so no "cheaper" 4-cylinder option) starts at $31,995. So I can see the Stinger undercutting it with the smaller engine option.

if the 2.0t starts at around 27k and adding the 6k difference estimated by our fellow members, the 3.3t will start around 33k. thats a helluva bargain compared to the 56k g80 sport. the g80 sport is going to be practically fully loaded. with that in mind, and having no clue what will come standard and as options for a stinger gt, i dont think the stinger gt will get any higher than 43-45k if it starts at 33k. very good price. cant wait for the final bits of info apparently coming out next month.

The Stinger will undoubtedly start above this price for you chaps. You cannot really use the Korean prices as your guide. The Korean Cadenza price started at around 26mil won (or ~$23K USD). This may be the 4 cyl, but still.

Starting price for the Stinger in USA is sure to be low-mid at $33-34k for the base 4cyl turbo. But it will still be nicely loaded.
There should only be one GT model, fully loaded, and it has been said to come in under $50k, but surely not as low $43k.

All speculative. I guess we are all hoping the prices will be as good as Korea!

I also like the interior photo. Covered cup holders and flat-bottom steering wheel............

I have been mulling over this combination as well. I have liked the Estoril Blue 3-series I have seen that included the red interior option.

You're the one who made me think of this combo! The more I thought about it, then more I was with it. I didn't want red seats again lol. Damn you @Bamm1
