Just curious what you all think....

Ever since I got my GT I've been looking at the key and that big round "launch the nukes" button on top ( to lock the car ) and can't help thinking, I really wish this button brought the car to life as opposed to putting it to sleep.

I just like the way it feels. Walking away, turning back and seeing the mirrors turn in and the lights flash *beep!* is rather satisfying.

Couldn't agree more. Start engine, open/close windows, open/close sunroof.

I've always wondered why they didn't make it the unlock button instead. Maybe just because they were worried it's easier to hit on accident since it's bigger, and didn't want people accidentally unlocking their cars.

Well it is nice to hit that lock button three times and watch it come to life. Did that tonight coming back from dinner and it was a very satisfying feeling at night watching it light up.

How does it come to life? I just went out and clicked my lock button x3 and all it did was flash the light and beep that it was locked.

KIA's OEM or aftermarket remote start systems can enable that feature.

You're probably right. Wish they had an option / choice of key / config. I know which way I'd go. Big round button to bring it to life

Bring it to life like, doors unlocked, mirrors out, lights on, etc etc and if remote start came into play..... even better !

Completely agree...

I have to remind myself to use it, but only because it looks too cool to not use. I always just lock and unlock using the door.
I always have the key in my pocket so use the doors also to lock and unlock. Very rare to actually use the key. It is a pretty cool key though.

In the carport I unlock and lock using the door(s). That's because I spare my mirror motors as much as possible. But away from the house, I always fold my mirrors in, so the key "detonator" gets used then.

Great point on away from home detonation to protect the mirrors 8-)

I imagine the rationale was this: a person may not always remember to lock the car, but would always remember to unlock it (as a precursor to vehicle entry). Assuming the above is true, and Kia wants everyone to be safe, they make locking the car fun- ergo you have a huge detonator button to press. Moreover, if the FOB is in a person's pocket, it's easier to feel for the large button that locks the car. Plus, if everyone is like me, a person is likely to turn around and visually verify the car locked so you get them to look at the car again (and that makes everyone feel good!)
