Stinger GT vs C43 AMG Acceleration Comparison

Nice comparison. Price comparison?

Nice, considering the C43 AMG was what I was probably going to buy when I found out the Stinger was coming.

"Comparably equipped", it was in the mid-50's. Oh, and it comes with a bi-modal exhaust! :)

Notice how much louder the C43 is compared to the Stinger. Last fall I test drove a C43 Coupe and with the exhaust switch activated, it was almost obnoxiously loud in the cabin.
In Canada, a similarly equipped C43 is about 25K more than the Stinger. Thanks a 50% increase in price.
The Benz has a 9 speed true dual clutch transmission. Shifts are lightening fast!
Currently, in Canada, a 2016 C450 with 30-40K Kms(precursor to the C43) is the same price point as a brand new Stinger Limited.

Great video. Amazing to see the similarity in performance.

There both advantages and disadvantages to dual-clutch transmissions. For strip runs and upshifting, dual-clutch is a bit quicker. But for road driving where you are shifting both up and down constantly, the dual-clutch gets "lost" sometimes because it tries to anticipate the next gear change which is not always the next one up or down. The Stinger is arguably better suited to a balance of driving types and was never intended to be a strip car.

I've had three vehicles in the past with dual clutch transmissions, all three driven on the road and at the track (road courses), and never found a problem with any of them. I do however agree with you to an extent. The difference between a dual clutch and a well designed automatic transmission is really small, only seen in a "Sport +" type setting. Some find a dual clutch shifting too quick and too aggressive. My personal preference leans more to the hard edged side of things. Lightning fast is good with me.
My local Kia dealer is supposed to get a Stinger GT Limited in any time soon. I'm hoping to take it for a test drive and get a feel for it.

The dual-clutch "pre-selects" the next gear. The only time you get it confused and get a shift lag is when you violate the logic by which the transmission is expecting.

Here's Cadogan's explanation of DCT's and it's a good one.

The AMG 9 speedshift transmission in the Benz is not a DCT. It's a standard Clutch to clutch automatic transmission, with a wet multi-plate startup clutch instead of a torque converter called an MCT. There is no clutch/gear pre selection as in a true DCT. The benefit to the MCT is that in gear and locked up, it acts like proper manual transmission with engine output and trans input mechanically locked. There is no hydro static stator to wind up like in a traditional torque convert ( IE flash stall RPM). The MCT has no bearing on shift times or firmness. That's all done via, pressure, volumes and fill rates, and timing/torque mgt tuning. In fact once ECU/TCU tuning is available for the stinger, you should be able to approximate the shift characteristics of the Benz transmission.

Thanks! Good to know! I was told my the service people at the Mercedes dealership that it had a true DCT, but, as usual, what do they know!
Looking VERY forward to the day when true ECU/TCU tuning is available for the Stinger. On the Nissan GT-R, it was a night and day difference! Hopefully, in the near future!! The only thing that I've read so far is possibly ECUTEK a year away!

For me I never considered a v6 amg. I feel like v8 or nothing when it comes to amg. I have a friend who owns a c63 and I found it very small inside.

But since i had time i went over to the mb website. Built a c43 to have all the features my gt1 has and it came to a little over 63k. So nearly a 20k difference for the brand name essentially. The

I drive a 2013 M-B C300. The newer C class has 2 inches more leg room in the rear and marginally more rear head room. The Stinger has 4 inches more legroom and a full inch more rear head room than mine. Not to mention that being a hatchback, the Stinger would be more functional from a cargo standpoint. Although not yet having driven a Stinger, from the video reviews, it seems like the AMG is more of a hard edged vehicle. Toggling from comfort, to normal, to sport, to sport + modes make a significant difference in the vehicle's driving dynamics! In the GT-R, the differences were very subtle, and I think the Stinger may also lean that way.

The only true DCT transmissions MB has are in the A/CLA/GLA 45 and the AMG GT. Tuning has been cracked by MagicMotorsports, and they have support for SIM 2K -260 ECU and TCU. That means you can now read and flash ECU/TCU. Tuners with MagPro2 tool can begin to verify tuning definition and DAMOS files and begin to experiment with flash tuning now. I think Tork is expecting to have his available end of the month. should be some fun stuff happening soon.

LOL!! I just Googled Magic Motorsports and saw MX bikes, BMX bikes, pitbikes, riding mowers and backpack leaf blowers!!
Visions of Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor shoehorning a 454 V-8 into a riding mower!!!

Actually traded a C450 AMG in on my Stinger GT...it's faster.....rides better....has more room....has a better warranty...and 23K less!!!! Loving my Stinger!!!
