Stinger cabin temperature

This may have been brought up earlier, as I only looked back a few pages in this thread. I first noticed the heat issue when my map in Android Auto froze while exploring some local secondary roads. After pulling over and getting nowhere with the UVO interface, I pulled the phone out of the wireless charging bay and it was extremely hot - almost too hot to hold. The phone had locked up and was showing a message that only emergency calls were supported until it cooled down.

In the wireless charge bay it was too hot to hold your hand on the surface of the rubber pad in there. A/C had NOT been running, so I turned it on and the bay cooled off almost immediately.

As I don't want to run A/C all the time, I searched the forum and saw where member @moinmoin said he fixed it using the temp control on the rear seat climate panel. Mine was set at the midway point between the blue and red markings (not on full red/heat), so I dialed it down to the full blue/cold setting and the hot charging bay heat issue disappeared entirely - it now stays at ambient temperature without A/C running, and doesn't even get remotely warm. This is the other thread:

Hot transmission tunnel

If you haven't already, try rotating that back temp dial to full 'cold' and see if it works for you without the A/C engaged. I will be mentioning this to the dealer, as when winter rolls back around, I'll want the ability to use the rear seat area heat without cooking my phone.

I hadn't noticed excess heat on the side of the tunnel (on my LHD car), but if the plumbing is on the right side of the tunnel that would explain why - I'll have to check that area to see . The only thing I can think would help is additional insulation, but I'll see what the dealer has to say.
Good information im glad it worked for you. Unfortunately ive tried all this and scolding hot still.:(:(

Ok, latest on the heater core pipe heat issue. It went into the dealerships mechanic who had the car for two days. As said before this mechanic believed it to be an issue. Like last time - different dealer same result Kia Australia logged the complaint and will do F/A. I wonder if you bought a new house and the builder said 'best to leave the A/C on all the time"

That's exactly what happens when you buy a house. Always-on ventilation is designed in and if you live in a very hot or very cold climate with heavily insulated homes, mechanical equipment is required to prevent moisture issues.

A car is like a house in a four seasons climate, not a cabana in Hawaii that can rely on natural ventilation 365 days of the year.

And always-on ventilation (climate control in automatic mode) doesn't mean the A/C is always on. The compressor is only activated when needed for dehumidification or cooling. For economy reasons for many years, cars don't leave the A/C compressor on all the time.

So, it's more like buy a house, open all the windows and then complain when it's too hot, too moist or too cold because you did so and refused to turn on the HVAC system in the house.

You can simply turn the fan to the lowest setting, which allows just enough air flow to not jam-up the system, the temp to minimum, and the A/C off manually to get effectively no climate control besides some minimal natural air flow that you won't notice if you have the windows and roof open.

Unfortunate, that - hope you get some sort of resolution soon. I will check the sides of the tunnel in my car for heat as well, but if that area does in fact heat up I'd expect the area under the cover (the charging bay) wouldn't be staying as cool as it does now.

Either way, it's not going to be acceptable for winter when I want the rear seat heat on without roasting my phone.

In relation to running dehumifiers or A/c continuosly in the house unfortunately having the worlds most expensive electricity is not option for many of us down here.:(:(:( https://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&...FjAAegQIBxAB&usg=AOvVaw1TwP-MrdbaqnQLB38r0s96

No one suggests running A/C continuously. The issue is how to keep your house as cool as possible with as little energy as possible. That means some non-mechanical (or solar-powered) ventilation and pre-cooling. For the car, it means maintaining some air flow though its ventilation system to prevent heat build-up from the giant "furnace" sitting right ahead of the cabin.

I just let the car do its thing I love auto temp control. no issues here, i just set the temp @73 for both sides and it works perfectly and its been in the 90'smost days recently. i f its a little hot when i get in i just turn on the seat cooler and i usually have to turn that off within a few minutes as it gets too cool fast.

Just read this thread for the first time. My thoughts on the cause go towards a faulty valve.

What if the rear vent temperature dial is mounted incorrectly. I mean that full cold does not completely closes the valve that controls the flow of hot coolant through the pipes. That is ofcourse when it is a mechanical valve.
If it is an electrical valve it could be that the ‘close’ signal does not (completely) close the valve on some cars and hot coolant keeps flowing through the tunnel area.

I respect that the heat might come from the exhausts, but then it would have been impossible for SteveCo to stop the heat by means of the rear vent temp. dial......

Ozstung,

I feel your pain, sir. I can’t believe you are getting such a run around. I and I expect you have owned many cars in our lives. I’ve never been burned or scalded by my car, on its own. Hot sun, sure. I’m in my research phase right now and the thrill is starting to go. I don’t think I want to spend US $50K on a car and worry about getting burned, chipping paint, Napa issues and what else. I loved driving it and it has so much to offer, but.

I gotta ask, Ozstung; experiencing and knowing what you know now. Are you a happy owner?
Thanks!

(I had to edit and couldn’t direct reply. I was quoting your last post and got flagged for spam. My guess your link?)

Hi Joe and thanks for the question. I've owned the car 5 months and all in all reasonably happy.

The sales experience and the lies I was told by the dealer really ruined the initial experience. But apart from the "Heat" issue I can say so far the car has put a big smile on my face. It has pretty much everything you could want in a car. I have 3.3 v6 GT, I think you call it the gT2. Paint issues and boot rattles I've not experienced.

I believe reading through some of the threads when you have the sunroof open it closes a vent or turns off the climate control? If this is the case I may have a problem knowing the issues i mentioned before? But if that is incorrect I'm sure someone will let me know. I said the car is value considering the bang you are getting for you buck. Going forward a liitle concerned about what I'm hearing with some peoples flaky paint. Down here I'm hearing a few Sunset yellow owners have has some real issues, but it doesn't sound like everyone.

So 8/10 is what I'd give the Stinger. And if the climate control does inhibit the heat then 9/10. Just a to let you know I probably only get to drive the car once a week at this stage due to a having a work vehicle. Cheers.

Hey there @Ozstung, do you know what the issues are with some of the Sunset Yellow Stingers?

I got a pm from someone out lining the issue, to be honest I can't remember it was technical. If looked it up I could be specific, although I feel a bit uncomfortable putting it on here . It maybe an a few isolated cases?

Ok, no need too put it on here then, hope Kia will help them.

I like you enjoy driving with the moonroof open, windows down a/c off. Hey Honda doesn’t overheat or get weird. So, Kia has some QC to do, I think.

I remember when Volvo went from selling economical plain cars to leather seated sporty sedans and shooting the price skyward. I lived through it in the 1970’s. I steered Mom (I was 17j into a 1973 164E. It was $6k when a Cadillac Sedan deVille was $5k. She was thrilled with the car as it was smaller and more maneuverable than that would have been. It was also a very safe car of its time. Kia is now trying to be Volvo of that time. Rebranding itself. So been there done that once before.

i agree with the rebranding, even though this isn't the forum for this discussion, i think kias rebranding is more along the lines of honda/acura, toyota/lexus and nissan/infiniti. but without the name change. i think hyundai bit that one big time with their equus brand. and we will have to wait and see how genesis does.

I wasn’t trying to move the topic but it felt relevant. I disagree with the Acura/Honda and T/L equivalent. It really is more Volvo-like. No name change just perception and price. Same brand but noticibly better cars. BUT Kia apparently hasn’t done anything to the dealers as to upscalling the experience along with the cost. But that may change too. Here in L.A. Galpin Kia is operating out of a giant “tent” (like CA Indian Casino’s did before they got the law passed) and are building a beautiful modern building. They have a model on the floor. VW had the problem with the Phaeton, same dealer, $100k car next to a Golf. I think the Acura/Lexus/Infiniti and now Genesis model is better. Complete separate dealer with lineage to the parent but top to bottom different. Though if you have Genesis why bother with Kia? I see them as the same company similar to a GM or Ford with divisions.
Thanks.

I found the original thread @Ozstung started back in January 2018, photo of the pipe is on page 2 post #33, so I Bumped it.
Hope you don't mind @Ozstung.:)

Im having teh same issue and i have a kia seltos 2022 model, i cannot believe that after 4 years kia have not spent the extra $5 to cover this pipe with some kind of insulation, pretty poor that they ignored it as someone may sue them if they get burnt next time as its a known issue now. this is why i regettebly miss my honda as the quality was far superior
