Stinger cabin temperature

Hi Oz, just letting you know that I drove my Stinger in to work the other day. About 60 mins in peak hour traffic. Whilst the cabin was a little warmer due to the aircon being off, at no point was my resting left foot uncomfortable let alone burned.

As for your latest post about 23c outside and 35c inside being considered normal ... that service manager must be a desert dwelling nomad to put up with that sort of heat.
Peak hour traffic is stop and go. Car won’t get hot like when the problem occurred when driving at freeway speeds or driving hard. Try doing that with your car then feel around under neath dash to se if it’s too hot then let us know. Use those astronaut investigative skills!

The other thing is that running a car at idle will not cause the heat to raise high enough to temperatures you are experiencing. Go drive it hard for 30 mins then give it back to them to test. This service guy is a moron if he does not realise that. It’s not the aircon it’s the added heat from transmission tunnel. You need to find the source of the heat either pipe or thru body work.
I couldn't agree more. The problem at this stage its only me complaining. Im bit concerned about myself buggering around, it might void the warranty if something went wrong.

The spiel ive been getting from Kia is that everyone drives their car with climate control on. That also appears to cool that pipe area down drastically. As ive mentioned i only use temperature control when its really hot. A couple of days ago i took it to an independant mechanic, he echoed what Kia said and that most people will drive with the AC on as matter of habit. Never have dont see me starting.
If it’s hot aircon on, if it’s not hot aircon off. Why would you run ot on all the time as it increase fuel consumption and loses power?

No don’t worry about that it won’t void warranty you are just enhancing the cooling system! The service guys probably won’t even notice when you take it in for a service.

My independant mechanic says AC has come a long way in the last 15 years and the compressors are designed to be run continuosly. He says as far as extra fuel consumption goes he said having the windows down with the drag probably uses more fuel. Mmm interesting stuff??

I tell you what, how about we go and get the Kia service moron and wrap him in a heat shield and see if that helps him see the problem!

I had a thought... do the heater pipes run anywhere near the turbos? Maybe turbo heat is adding to the heat of the pipe and it’s transferred into the cabin?

That entered my mind too. Surely others will notice, maybe ill give it more time. We'll see what the men from the Kia Aust lab find. No prizes there. Ps no Damn moon over the premier state last night...too cloudy ...1,2,3......

Im looking at this as if this was happening to my brand new Stinger.

1) this issue is so far unique, with no other owners reporting excessive heat in the cabin, let alone been burnt from it
2) so there obviously must be something different/missing or even damaged in Ozstung's car for this to be happening only to him
3) trying to take things into your own hands, especially after the very first look at it by the Kia dealership, or at all, is not wise, because the dealership might also, if they find out, think you contributed to the issue, and its Kia Australia and the dealership's responsibility to fault find and make fix
4) If it was my brand new Stinger, i would not want to hear about, if i should or not use air-conditioning, or climate control or anything else, it's a new car, all these features are there to be used without fear of excessive cabin heat, or being burnt or anything else
5) So, in conclusion, its simple, something is happening down there..haha, with OzStung's car for a reason, that is different or faulty or damaged or even missing, who knows, to any other Stinger out there at the moment

6) Sorry Ozstung, couldn't resist just a little bit of humour at the end, if the dealership keeps giving you excuses that there is no issue, in the future, show him your burnt hand, tell him to bend over and shove it up his A, or pull down your pants and show him your scarred leg, hoping that will scare him for life..haha

Not sure about uniqueness. People driving at different climates, with different modes of driving, feeling temperatures differently etc are no statistic or sensible comparison. if we want to do this right, we'd need at least say 20 cars driven *exactly* like the problem in question. Same exterior conditions, same RPMs etc.

If in such a test, 20 cars show nothing and yours does, then KIA has no arguments.

I find the whole air con thing somewhat odd and irrelevant. For the service moron to even go there says helping you out here might just mean working and he ain’t up for that, pretty sure that would be a big part of his job. Running the aircon is a personal choice thing, unless of course there’s a caution in the log book stating operating vehicle without air conditioning may cause increased cabin temperature and risk of burns...
What little time I’ve had my stinger, 3 days now, driven in traffic/ open road conditions I’ve not noticed any warmth or heat in footrest area and reading this I was paying attention to this. I’m in Perth and whilst it hasn’t been hot it’s been warm enough.
Good luck ozstung, given reliability and the 7 year warranty is such a key piece of the Kia brand you would think they would be all over this.

Your dealer is a drop kick, I hardly ever use AC when I’m on my own & I have no heat issues, take it to GWKia & talk to them, may get a sympathetic ear.

Ozstung.
I just took a couple of pics of my GT.
Looks like the pipe(s) have no shileding!

I also put my hand there and could not touch the shield not hot all, but the pipe behind is hot after having the air con for only 10mins.

I can still see the part number on the black plastic pipe or cover in both pics

I think the black plastic cover in Sting's photo with the part number, covers the metal pipe showing in Ozstung's photo.

It just looks like the same shiny black plastic with a different angle and lots of flash to me. But I don’t have one yet so I can’t really check

Im actually not sure at all now, i thought the pipe showing in Ozstung's photo is a metal pipe that is not shielded, maybe it is plastic now, difficult from photos sometimes, i thought it metal, looks like im wrong, Sorry guys.
Maybe i should use my glasses more often, hope i can see alright by the time my Stinger arrives, looks like the wait is exactly like AV8R mentioned, if my car is still not built, it might not arrive till at least late March, or into April even..
