Stinger cabin temperature

You can buy flexible heat wrap, get him to wrap it if the dealers are stuffing your around.

Hey Ozstung, visited my dealership this morning, not much luck, the Rafa edition in the showroom was sold and locked, the V6TT was out on a test drive, waited for about 30 minutes, didn't return to the dealership, i did manage to look in a 2.0ltr turbo in sunset yellow, which was locked and i had to ask to have it opened. I looked in the same area as in your photo, i saw nothing like it, im sure there was a pipe, but it was covered all in that hard plastic, but maybe the 2.0ltr turbo pipe might be different to the V6TT ??

Ah ha thanks, my local mechanic whom i visited today did say he thought that area was covered on his mates stinger but he wasnt sure. He went onto say that most people will have the climate control o permanently and this will stop the heat. He says modern vehicles are not uncommon like this. Wow not sure i want to keep A/C running all the time. He did say vehicles were designed to have there compressors running all the time. And it makes little difference to fuel economy these days. Im one of those people who dont run the AC unless necessary though. Interested to see what people think. Personally to me its totally unacceptable.

Agree, Absolutely Unacceptable, but not only is this issue heating up the cabin, you have been burnt at least twice as well, first time i have heard of a person being injured, especially from a Brand New car, i also so much want to find out what is going on, we have not heard of the same issue with any other Stinger here on forum ??

Very true my scenario appears unique? Surely if other people had this you simply could not ignore it. Time will tell. Cheers.

Haven't had a chance to run without A/C on today (the missus was sweltering in the heat and demanded it stay on), but I can confirm my GT has no cover, however I don't believe the pipes are quite as exposed as on your pic. I can barely see one pipe in my car.

Again.... which pipe is it in the picture, the single or double pipes? And is yours a V6?

I ran the ac today so ill have to re-check. I believe its the single black plastic pipe but i will have to confirm and yes its the v6gt. Id love to see if mines the same as others.

If any 2.0 litre owners can post a pic of the same pipes that would be good as a comparison.

Ozstung, just checked my car (RHD as well), exactly same configuration as yours.
Looking at my driving position, my leg does not even come close to this area, do you sit close to the dashboard?
Also, just check it is not a problem with the heating system, if there is a fault it could be blowing hot air directly onto your leg?
Anyway, hope you get it sorted with your dealer. Really surprised they are not taking your complaint more seriously.

Thanks mate, when i saw my local mechanic today he didnt need a second guess as to which KIa dealership i bought the car from. Apparently they are pretty infamous. As said the dealer will have the vehicle all Thursday. And i actually sit fairly far back im 188cm. I do wear shorts though (As we do down here) i also do mostly motorway driving in cruise control and so the left leg rest on the foot peg for long periods of time. But i do take your point about the hot air blowing from there too. If my back wasnt so screwed up id stick my head down there more to see. Ps hows mutley?

Personally, I do have AC on in every car I ever drove all the time .. I never power it off, it's either warming in winter or cooling in summer and also there to get moisture out of the cabin. But I'll check once I get my stinger what it does there without AC running and I do have a multimeter with a temperature sensortip up to 1000C :) I do wonder which tube on the image it is really.

If it persist, I guess you'd have to call (not email) headquarters and then fight. They usually will always deflect anything to the local dealerships, with email, there's no chance to reach anyone there.

Yes my mechanic said the same, he always has the AC on in either cooling or heating. Personally i have never done this. If you could check yours without it on and do a temperature check that would be awesome.

Will do, but it'll be April :/ Also, my model might have this fixed, we shall see.

Ok so the 3.3 gt went to the kia dealers service dept to have the internal heat issues looked at. Car was left on for a few hours windows up, inside a shaded ventilated workshop with no climate control or fan on. Outside air temperature was 23c . Drivers side temp reached 35.?c and passenger side 34.?c. Data was sent off to Kia Aust for future analysis. At this stage nothing has been considered abnormal the Service manager indicated.

So when i did the 30 min drive home i conducted my test once home. Left the car under a sheltered carport, outside temp 23c let it idle for 35 mins. Inside temp 35.2 drivers side. Again windows up and no fan or climate control on. Photo attached. My view; to hot. Also i did not put the thermometer near the foot well otherwise im sure it would have been way hotter!

Hi Oz, just letting you know that I drove my Stinger in to work the other day. About 60 mins in peak hour traffic. Whilst the cabin was a little warmer due to the aircon being off, at no point was my resting left foot uncomfortable let alone burned.

As for your latest post about 23c outside and 35c inside being considered normal ... that service manager must be a desert dwelling nomad to put up with that sort of heat.

That is a little worrying as I'd expect 2-5degs above the outside air temperature.

Also this seems to be an exhaust issue causing this, as heavy driving isn't a factor so can't be the transmission tunnel or anything else.

Now we have a bench mark (roughly) maybe others could try.

Just go and buy a heat shield wrap from an exhaust centre and wrap the area yourself. By the time Kia get around to seeing the issues and fixing it the car will be three years old!
While your there ask them about the transmission tunnel and adding more metal heat shield under neath. If my car has this issue that’s what I will do.

The other thing is that running a car at idle will not cause the heat to raise high enough to temperatures you are experiencing. Go drive it hard for 30 mins then give it back to them to test. This service guy is a moron if he does not realise that. It’s not the aircon it’s the added heat from transmission tunnel. You need to find the source of the heat either pipe or thru body work.

The spiel ive been getting from Kia is that everyone drives their car with climate control on. That also appears to cool that pipe area down drastically. As ive mentioned i only use temperature control when its really hot. A couple of days ago i took it to an independant mechanic, he echoed what Kia said and that most people will drive with the AC on as matter of habit. Never have dont see me starting.
