I may be in the minority, I have had my eye on the Stinger for over six months as I need a new car. I currently drive a 07 Lexus GS350 and was looking for a "midlife crisis" car to replace it. The Stinger GT seemed like a great next vehicle as it is almost exactly the same size as my GS350. I Test drove both Genesis G80 and G80 Sport, and they are just too "heavy". I would have paid list price for the GT1 with Drivewise, but the fact that Kia USA decided to "deluxuryfi" the Stinger is annoying me to no end. I was expecting all the stuff that was announced and more (camera, seats).
First, is there a list of what we are NOT getting in terms of options in the USA?
Second, if not the Stinger and G80 Sport, what car in the US $45-50K range would be an alternative for a 3 year lease and wait for the Stinger to be spec'ed out more in later model years? I was considering waiting for the 2019 G80, but may not be able to wait that long. i want something in a similar size range.
Another Lexus GS would have been the logical successor, but the Lexus front end is really ugly.
Thanks in advance.

Haha, that Lexus front end is super ugly.
That 45k-50k range is tough. It's almost a no man's land. All the really up-market stuff is just a little over that range. The G70 should be released in spring of 18. I expect it to have all the missing "luxury" options they dropped from the stinger.
( 360 camera, alcantra roof lining, heated rear seats, remote start app on phone etc) it is based on the stinger body, but is a couple inches shorter, lighter and faster.
I don't believe it will be all that much more than the stinger. Car reviews are expecting it to top out at 52 which seems pretty close. I bet it won't be more than 2k more than the stinger.
The other cars I've looked at is the Jag xe 35 r-sport, fully loaded at 60k, but discounts can be had. (I really dig the all aluminum body - no rust up here in the salt covered roads) The other car I looked at and it is a totally different direction is the mustang GT. Fast, fun to drive, V8. It starts around 35k. Neither one really "checks all the boxes" though. I'll wait and see what the G70 looks like, maybe wait until the 19 stinger comes out to see what they are adding back in.. might also look at the alfa Romeo giulia again. (Every time I do though i see the 4c and my eyes tell me to forget about comfort and just by the alfa 4c. That is one hell of a sexy car. Then once I think I don't need comfort or any kind of practical car and all I need is looks and something super fun to drive I inevitablely start looking at the lotus Elise. Good luck in your search.

Yeah, I do 50 miles daily in Houston traffic and am definitely looking more at the Luxo end of the spectrum. I looked at the Jag XF S and R Sport in British Racing Green and it was a beauty (some sort of special order that didnt sell; Regrets!). The Mustang and Camaro would have been great ten years ago, but just not my type any more. I also looking at a used Audi A6/A7, and don't want a BMW or Mercedes. Willing to push to 55k, and I have never leased before, I'm a guy who buys once and keeps for 10 years, so I want a "keeper" that I will be happy with 5 years later. The only reason I am considering leasing the Stinger or G80 is because it may be more beneficial re: residual value vs used car trade-in. Lease for 3 years and see what the market looks like in 2020.

Does anyone know the typical lifecycle of Kia models? My fear with leasing an '18 Stinger would be if the '21 Stinger was still one year shy of a mid-cycle refresh.

I don't think they have a standard, different models seem to change at different intervals.

Have you considered the Genesis G70? It's the Genesis Motors version of the Kia Stinger. You can get information here:

You can find some amazing deals on leftover 2017 infinitis right now. The car that is currently #2 on my list (right behind the Stinger GT2) is a Q60 Red Sport 400. The Q50 Red Sport 400 is essentially the same car but with 4 doors. Usually in the $60k range, incentives right now are pushing them closer to $50k, and in some cases even lower. Twin-turbo V6 with 400 Horsepower and pretty much all of the features the Stinger does and was supposed to offer.

2017 Lexus GS 350 F-Sport.

Window sticker is 57K
Talk it down to 52K
Get 4K in December Lease Cash.

Assume a 55% residual and a money factor of 0.00100 before 9 MSDs. Since the Kia incentives advertise 2,999 down, I added the same amount down for the lexus. Both are 10K miles, 36 months. No tax included as that changes state to state.

You could lease the GS for 420 a month. For comparison, that's approximately the cost of leasing a Premium 2.0T w/Drivewise or a GT without.

You can also get an Infiniti Q50 fully loaded with/420 HP right now for 389 a month.

Basically: you've got to *really* want the Stinger, because Kia's 0.00179 Money Factor makes this car a very difficult sale vs brands with real luxury pedigree. Smart money would stick to the Optima SXL lol

Welcome aboard, @Checkin! Thank you for signing up. It seems the best way to get into a Stinger right now is to lease...

With the dumb lease deals Kia is offering for the GT2, I am looking at 2018 Giulia or Q60 Red Sport or Jaguar XE 35t.

I actually thought the $6100-$6800 lease cash was a pretty awesome deal this early in the game. You disagree?

My lease quote with the $6100 off the GT2, is $3000 down and $706 for 36 month. lol

I think the dealer is not giving you an accurate number. They must be trying to get you to bite on something higher that the real numbers. Did you get a chance to look at their math? But I guess it could also depend on how taxes and stuff work in your state.

Also, regarding your alternatives. The Giulia is supposed to be a great car, but I haven't driven it yet. The Q60 Red Sport is AMAZING and is very near the top of my list as well. But the Jaguar has no business costing more than $35k. Such a cheap feeling car with a fancy badge on it. Maybe a fully loaded R Sport does it a little more justice, I don't know.

lol, trust me I have been arguing with them about this ridiculous number!!

I showed them from Kia own website the lease number is $543 a month(which I think is still high). But then they tell me you have to add dealer fee and tax. They said I have to pay tax on the whole vehicle. Which is not true in FL. Sales tax is 6%. Dealer fee is $650. So not sure what the extra ($706-543) $163 a month in taxes and fees??

2018 Giulia is at the top of my list. I really want Android Auto. Q60 doesnt have it, but its so pretty. lol
Ya I understand about the Jag, but the 2018. They supposedly upgraded some of the materials.

Ask what the money factor is. They've probably jacked it up to try to make more money.

I also like the Q50/Q60. I would get one if it had Android Auto and ventilated seats. Oh well.

Ill ask, but I dont think the guy im dealing with knows much about leasing. He keeps telling me they tax the full price of the vehicle on leases. lol

Yes!! It also needs a heads-up display!!

Google the leasing laws in your state. In some states I believe they do tax the entire value of the car up front, even in a lease. In others (like CA, where I am), only the capitalized cost reduction and principal payment are taxable.

For reference, I just got a Stinger GT2 last Saturday (first one in San Diego I think), and my lease payment (out the door) was $695/mo, 36mo, 12K/yr with $1300 down (+1st months payment, $2K out of pocket). The math on this works out to right around what it should have been for MSRP minus the lease incentive (though the dealer DID try to jack it up a ridiculous amount to start off with).

You should just go above his head. Talk to the person actually doing the numbers.

Check out my post about the dealer trying to get more money out of me by changing the money factor. Check what Money factor you should be getting with your credit score. you can even use my calculator I created to test what $/month you should be charged. It is set up for tax on the full price of the vehicle though. (Texas)

Was this a RWD or AWD? And was it marked up above MSRP? Because the calculators I've been using get me to around $650ish on an AWD with only $1200 out of pocket total. Maybe because of higher taxes in California (its 7% here in Ohio)?
