Start button paint rubbing off

I did and explained why I think it is a defect.
And I think that most of us see it as a material choice, not a surprise defect. It's such a small area, virtually unnoticeable (unless you have OC friends as passengers  ), that it wouldn't matter what color the surface is. But, as you say, this is where opinions differ, and that's okay. (But I have to say, I feel sympathy for anyone noticing something so small, inconsequential, absolutely unobtrusive in the operation and appearance of the car, and losing sleep over it!)

Being in the manufacturing industry myself, I have to say that is NOT paint. Just the side of the button. I will have to take a look at mine. If there is any "play" in the button and you push it on the edge, it will tip a little and probably make those marks. Try pushing the button dead center to keep it straight. Just a thought.....

I don't see any damage, even after the explanation in the OPs follow up posts.

OP isn't concerned about lettering rubbing away, but those operational scuffs on the side.

Sal could run with this. Design some custom push button sticker/covers. A new thing!
Would a vinyl overlay work?

You guys send me a direct message with ideas...

I'm not sure if a vinyl overlay would work over the sides? I recall that button not having a lot of clearance, the vinyl may be too thick and affect the function of the button.

If that's the only issue to report consider yourself extremely lucky lol. I CERTAINLY WOULD NOT allow those techs to rip apart the dash to replace the button. As you know, you risk visable damage done by the tech and a decent likelyhood of rattles/noises popping up after they put it all back together. That would be wayyyyyy worse. It amazes me how little these dealerships actually know about the car...at lease the dealerships I've gone to. The less they do the better IMHO. Stinger is an AMAZING car but it does have its quirks. I've had a few issues but I'd pull the trigger on it again in a second! Good Luck!

Something like this button cover combined with the actual button overlay would be cool. The mustang6g forum guys have been doing these from day one.

A Lamborghini Huracan style flip cover would solve the "issue" being visible. The overlay would just be cool, and I reserve the rights to all initial products!

Looking at the picture & if I’m reading the posts correctly the marks on the outside diameter of the actual button appear to be friction marks & I don’t believe an overlay would resolve this issue.

Read my posts just before yours.

An overlay would just be for the top, not the sides.

This is a tangential topic brought on by my second post, questioning if the OP was talking about the light scratches on the sides of the button, or being concerned about paint wearing off the face of the button: voila! an overlay would fix the paint rubbing off. But, so far, nobody has said anything about paint rubbing off. And so, custom On/Off button overlays would only be a fun, small cosmetic mod to further individualize your car.

does anyone's start button have this kind of rubbing marks?

Some of those scratches look like they run deep, like cracks. Do you ever leave your car in the sun or freezing over night?

If it were a BMW/Merc/Audi that would be an issue, but I guarantee Kia don't care. When you use plastic that's going to be rubbed every time you start the car, you have to pick a purpose fit polymer.

If I ever get one Ima hit that rim up with some dry lube ;)

Here is mine taken with and without flash. Regardless of vehicle make or model I don't see it as an issue, in fact I can't even see the button from the driving position.
