Hey everyone. I currently have the ssr catless downpipes (mid pipes) on my GT. I’m still not quite pleased with the exhaust note and want a bit more sound/bite. I do not want the dreaded drone that seems almost inescapable as this is my daily driver. With that said - what is everyone’s thoughts on the magnaflow system paired with the catless mid pipes? I know by itself magnaflow is on the quieter side but what about with the ssr catless pipes? Would I hear some gurgling in the note? Appreciate and insight or feedback.

If you want a more aggressive/deeper sound then get the SSR muffler deletes. You will get so minimal drone but its not bad.

The magnaflow will probably give a higher pitch sound to your exhaust. Some people would call it ricey.

It really all depends to your personal preference and tolerance. This is all subjective.

Here is the sound of the SSR mid pipes with the SSR muffler deletes.

As pretty much the only person here with custom midpipes and a Magnaflow, I can tell you that the Magnaflow doesn't have "dreaded" drone (any exhaust with a louder note will be more audible at lower RPMs), and that it sounds great when you're at full throttle since it's a straight-through exhaust system.

However, if you want that borderline aggressive rasp, the Magnaflow doesn't have that. In addition, in regular driving it's more of a smooth, higher pitch tone like the older stock exhaust Infiniti G35 except significantly louder. I've posted exhaust videos of the Magnaflow awhile back, but that was before the custom midpipes (technically, they're still DOWNpipes since they actually do go DOWN from where they connect, lmao).

Awesome feedback! I I had g37s with test pipes once upon a time....

Does it have any gurgle? I just had a great convo w a local exhaust expert who’s done quite a few stingers. He recommended the magnaflow and said we could always cut out the resonators if I wanted a bit more sound.

I pulled the trigger on the mangaflow exhaust. The out the door price of 1180 for the system delivered helped convince me.

Gurgle as in let off the throttle during a held gear? Yes, it does, but it actually sounds nice... I hear it off the apartment walls in my complex when I come home everyday because there's a slight incline towards the end of a road before my turn, but I only get up to about 18 MPH and have to let off right before the turn, lol

I would leave the resonators in: the thing about straight through is that without perforated cores to absorb sound, you will get that annoying rasp. Granted, you'll still have the mufflers at the back, but I'd leave it all as is. You lose very little performance to perforated cores, so you might just want to leave them in.

No: it all got louder (per my thread about my custom midownpipes [lol]). Opening up and deleting two cats that close to the engine adds more pipe noise (roar, or growl) and dramatically increases airflow (deleted cats).

I had the SSR mids and Thermal catbacks. Thermal's are pretty minimal tone wise on their own from what I've gathered. I've sound proofed my trunk and back seats. Get a fair amount of drone. It's worse some days and hardly noticeable other...it's kinda weird. You don't noticed it if you have your music a medium-ish level. Sounds really nice outside though. When you open it up it's realllll nice, and not obnoxious.

I've have Thermals catback for about a year and SSR midpipes for about 6 months (appx) and I've never had any drone.

This goes back to everyone's definition of drone being different though. Is it louder than stock? Sure. Does is make an annoying "droning" noise when I reach cruising RPMs? Not at all. On the contrary, I can't even hear the exhaust when the car isn't under load (<2100 RPM).

I also keep the car in comfort mode 99% of the time so that may be a factor as well.

Sweet.

Awesome. If all goes well I should have exhaust on by end of next week.

Your the first person to say that combo has no drone.....

I agree drone is very subjective. I wish I could ride in all your guys cars to hear first hand.

For me - how I want the car to sound and how I want my Daily driver to sound are 2 different things. Thus I think for me, I made the right choice with magnaflow and ssr mid pipes. We shall see soon!

Huh that's weird. My drone is way louder in eco/comfort mode because of the load under lower RPM. Not so bad in sport.

Some sound clips of SSR/custom mid-pipes with Magnaflow/Thermal cat-backs would be greatly appreciated!!

Thinking of replacing the stock mufflers on my 2018 Kia Stinger GT with a Magnaflow exhaust too. I want something that has a rich and throaty sound.

Erhm, I wouldn't describe the Magnaflow as "rich and throaty", lol... I'd describe it as subdued, but prominent when combined with catless midpipes :p

Agreed. Just got mine put on. Already have the catless mid pipes. Couldn’t be happier!

Give it a little time to settle: it gets a little louder since there's still glasspacking around the stainless steel wool in the cores. As moisture eventually soaks the glasspacking, it will settle and you'll get a little more "roar" out of it at WOT. ;)

Pictures of the magnaflow and ssr catless mid pipes installed

Thanks for your description. What brand can you suggest?

Wellllllllllllll, given my responses in this thread, I have a custom secondary downpipe + Magnaflow catback, so I can't speak for other brands, lol
