Hey everyone,

I recently started noticing a strange clicking/ticking sound coming from the airbag area on my Kia Stinger. especially noticeable when pressing it or turn the steeringe

I've attached a video so you can hear the sound for yourself.

Has anyone else experienced this? If so, what was the issue, and how did you fix it? I'm trying to figure out if this is something minor or if I should take it to the dealership ASAP.

Appreciate any insights!

You will have to link to a video hosted somewhere else, and being new to the forum, you may have to break the link in order to show it. For instance, put spaces in the ".com" or similar, like this, "file name . com", or spell it, like this, "file nameDOTcom". That way we can fix it in the address bar and watch your video.

I will advance a tentative theory, that this recently manifesting clicking noise is caused by something no longer attached properly. It is likely minor and therefore inexpensive to diagnose and fix. I would take it to the dealership anyway, and say that you are concerned that the airbag assembly could be failing, which is a scary thought. They should have it apart and back together quickly enough. Good luck!

Your opening post said it click/ticks when you turn the steering wheel. Your video only shows you squeezing the center cover. I've never squeezed my cover to see if I can get it to make a noise, it definitely doesn't make any noise turning the steering wheel.

Hey there! I might have accidentally missed a word when I typed ‘clicking/ticking’ instead of ‘squueze’.
But here’s the thing, this ‘squeeze’ is actually about turning the steering wheel. I just uploaded a video while I was turning the steering wheel to show you what I mean.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
All cars have a clock -spring. The old terminology was horn- ring.

This is a rotating device with various leads to connect your steering wheel buttons and airbag to the rest of the car whilst rotating the steering wheel....the clock spring will have a set number of turns it can perform in either direction.
If the car is still under factory warranty take it to a dealer.

You could remove the steering wheel but unless you know exactly what you are doing the airbag could take your head off plus working on clock springs can set a flag in your system computer which is not erasable and will leave a permanent airbag light

This is to stop idiots from messing with it and stops them from selling it with a faulty or disconnected airbag.

^^^ Good advice. I repeat my recommendation to express concern/fear to the dealership that you want this diagnosed and eliminated, to assure yourself that the airbag is not compromised in any way by whatever is causing this noise.

I apologize for the delayed response. I visited the dealership, and they informed me that they had applied grease behind the airbag in the four springs. Unfortunately, the noise persisted on the second day.

and it has nothing to do with the clock Spring.

any advice?

So they dont know

Its probably the clock spring

Did you ever find a solution?Just bought a 22 that is doing the exact same thing.i hear it when I turn the wheel, but can easily reproduce the noise by moving the airbag cover similar to how you do so in the video.
