Does the new stinger read the speed limit signs using its front camera? Not sure if any Kia vehicle does it.

Some Stingers sold in Europe have this feature (Speed Limit Information Function, or SLIF), but those sold in the US and Canada use speed data embedded in nav map data combined with vehicle location using GPS.

Unfortunately same in Aus.

Is everyone sure that new Aus GT Stingers do not read road sign speed limits using the camera? I have an MY22 GT and I am almost certain that it does. Today I drove past a "40 ahead at School Times" sign (the one with the big 40 in a circle) and it immediately went to 40 limit on the HUD ... but then (because it was outside school times) about 50 metres later (at the start of the school zone) it changed to 60. So it got "fooled" by the 40 ahead sign, but then corrected itself when the digital sign at the start of the school zone showed 60. If it was using map data - it would have stayed 40 for the school zone.

Also - there were some temporary roadworks (looked like they just started today) with a 40 limit ... and the HUD changed to 40 as soon as I went past the sign. No way that the NAV maps would have known about that.

Also - one other very odd one - I was driving along Toorak Rd the other day and the HUD told me that there was a 15 limit! Of course - there is no such thing as a 4 lane road in Melbourne with a 15km/hr limit - so I am tipping that there was a sign (perhaps in a slip road or something) with a big 15 in a circle. I'll check it next time I drive past.

Has anyone else with an MY22 GT noticed this??

MY22 does use the camera to read speed signs in Australia. From the Kia website:
Intelligent Speed Limit Assist* (ISLA) system is a driver assistance technology that detects speed signs through the front view camera. Information is displayed on the instrument cluster and if equipped, the head-up display (available on GT and GT-Line grades). The recognised speed can then be used to set the Speed Limiter or Smart Cruise Control by confirming the speed limit.

Thanks for that fairmont1998 - much appreciated. Glad I wasn't just imagining it :-)

In the yearbooks my 2019 it is also possible to display the signs read by the camera and show them on the instrument panel. You need to enable this feature using the interface. Regards

I know my stinger (in Canada) doesn't have this as we had a stretch of road change from 60 to 50 late last year and my HUD still shows the 60 sign as I'm driving by dozes of posted signs that are now 50.

My stinger is Canadian, and the speed limits are old in my neighborhood in the states. No sign reading here.

On my 22 I turned into a driveway going the wrong way. It had a arrow on it. The car warned me I was entering the wrong direction

Jy moet 'n werkswinkel vind wat kts, gscan, zenit z5 het, en hulle vra om die padtekenfunksie aan te skakel. Groete

My my23 does have the camera reading the speed signs. Infact it reads the school speed limit signs and displays 40kph 24/7 which is annoying. I also have a My20 and the programming is taken from the maps and must use gps time as it functions 5 days a week and only the 2 times a day it should. I can't find a a way of switching off the camera mode or selecting the map.gps for school zones. Ahhh because I started to ignore it I got done by a school zone speed camera. Can anyone help?

YES it does.

From the MY23 Interactive brochure for Stinger GT in Australia.

Owning a MY23 Stinger GT, the front camera detects both fixed and temporary speed signs. So if the driver encounters roadworks, the front camera detects the temporary speed sign and displays it accordingly.

This is in addition to the GPS which indicates when a new speed zone is entered or when a fixed school zone is recognised by the GPS.

By setting the speed limit assist I can tell you that the vehicle will not accelerate past the set speed limit it detects irrespective if the accelerator is pushed further.

well it doesn't read the school speed signs, it is programmed in the GPS software to display the 40kmh zone and will change to the 40kmh zone 24/7 BUT it will bring up an additional warning in the display during actual school hours as you apporach the school zone which is a yellow square which says school zone and an audio message to accompany it but only during school hours.

If you have not found it yet you can also program "road kill" and this will display an audio message via the pre programmed GPS whenever you come onto a road which has a road sign displaying "wildlife crossing

and apologies for the third message but the Kia GPS software which is the latest version for MY23 models has not been updated by Kia. It tells me about school zones that disappeared 10 years ago, does not tell me about new school zones that have appeared in the past 10 years, banks that closed 20 years ago.....and level crossings that have been removed, it still tells me that I am approaching a level crossing.

But having said that why turn it off....

That's an issue with mine. Between getting my Stinger and now, a road lowered the speed from 35mph to 25mph and as of the April update, the GPS still registers it at 35mph. It's why I don't think the camera actually reads the speed limit signs otherwise it would have caught it--and instead uses metadata in the GPS file that records the speed limit for a given section of a road.

Granted, mine is a Canadian Stinger and I live in the US, so I wondered if the settings for the GPS show a preference for local updates over foreign, but I could be wrong.

It definitely does read the speed signs and with the current programming the camera sign recognition has over rides the stored speeds and this is for all areas. Which is good for road repairs which aren't always recognised but the schools zones area times should have priority. This incompetent programming is evident as when the is a camera in the area the legal count speed limit is spoken before the progarmming for visual cuts overrides it. The MY23 is full of these bugs where Kia wanted to tick boxes and did not fully untethered features. The MY23 are ot safe on the road. I was told by Kia when I highlighted 3 pages of these issues that that is what I bought. The MY20 except for the heater stopped working at traffic lights and feet ventilation non existent when rear seat vents are on. Also don't wash the engine as you'll burn the car...
