So my boss says to me today "so what were you smoking when you decided to pay 50K for a KIA"

It really is all about comparisons. A Kia that costs between $30K and $50K is not like any Kia before. Did they just get too full of themselves? (like this boss seems to think) Or did they come up with a totally different machine? Okay, the answer is obvious to any of us. But the rest of the world needs to have the comparisons laid out. Quality, only a little less than the "prestige" brands. Performance, on a par or superior to the rest. Reliability, check. Utility, check and double check. Luxury, ditto check. Price, and this is where the Stinger totally flattens the competition: you get all of that equality and superiority for half the price. (more or less)

I wouldn’t say he’s an idiot I actually admire the guy. I’ll call it “uninformed”. Just like I was. The difference? My mind wasn’t/isn’t closed to new possibilities....

In addition to uninformed, seems like your boss is a follower (rather than a leader, despite being your boss), not a real auto enthusiast and cares too much of what others may think.

And a $50k really isn't that out of the question (putting aside the K900) when the Sorento SX-L AWD starts at $46.5k and the upcoming Telluride should easily top that in its higher trims.

And the price of the GT2 is basically inflated by over $10k due to all the goodies that come w/ it, in particular, the pricey safety tech like AEB.

A Sedona starts at $27k, but can be had for over $42k in its top trim.

It's like people being impressed w/ a decade old 3 Series or C Class (worth less than $15k) than someone who purchased a brand new loaded minivan (which approach $50k).

There's a $6.5k spread btwn a base Ford Focus and the Titanium trim, even more when opting for more performance (ST or RS - the latter going for over $41k).

Someone like your boss would probably say to an RS owner - you spent $41k on a Ford/Focus?

Just saying $50k is too much. Picked up my GT2 for $45k. Hate to see people pay too much. Maybe your boss thinks youre a poor negotiator?
That’s what I paid in Canada for mine with more features, what does that say about the deal you got.

This thread really says a lot, just enjoy the car. We are all here for the same reason. I have two to three people a day who can’t believe I would pay money, much less 50k for a Kia. The point is, they wouldn’t be asking if they weren’t impressed. The inferiority complex of who got the best or the “deal” amongst us is pretty pathetic.

I like to think of myself as a bit of a maverick by not following the herd. There are a lot of uninformed people out there when it comes to Korean cars in general. When you consider all of the awards the Stinger has received from the automotive press, it's not very hard to justify your/our decision. What does your boss drive?

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
Well.....my boss drives my Stinger because it's her daily driver. :p

But I agree on the uninformed people. As you surf through these threads, you'll see a lot of very savvy drivers of some great cars (M's, MB's, Audi's, etc.) giving thumbs up on Stingers seen on the road. Those are the people who love to drive (as opposed to HAVE to drive) and who choose their rides very carefully -- people who just love fine cars and don't waste time racing and risking tickets. Automotive professionals have all praised the Stinger, and although all cars have compromises, it is equally instructive to note that there does not seem to be any common thread from the pros about what is good and what is not so good. That reflects personal taste, not a common problem, and an overall winner.
