So my boss says to me today "so what were you smoking when you decided to pay 50K for a KIA"

I promptly told him about the Forum and REAL car guys know about this car and reminded him that the same type of things were said about Toyota/Lexus-Nissan/Infinity and even Hyundai when they first started in the States and that I/we Stinger owners are ground breakers for KIAs' up and coming luxury brand. I don't think he was moved by my explanation. I'll take him for a ride next week....to let him feel it for himself.

That's what I was going to say - give him a ride. Well, if you like the guy. Otherwise just nod and smile. LOL

Smokin' a big old heap of reality.

I've learned this method:

"All in the Family" Edith's Accident (TV Episode 1971)

Father Majeski: "Go from the presence of the foolish man when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge."

Father Majeski: It means don't waste your time arguing with an idiot!

Got the same BS, from my peers at work. Take em for a ride...they'll soon then understand.

arguing with an idiot!
I wouldn’t say he’s an idiot I actually admire the guy. I’ll call it “uninformed”. Just like I was. The difference? My mind wasn’t/isn’t closed to new possibilities....

I was at the gas station with the stinger yesterday... dude comes up to me out of nowhere and says, "hey was looking at your car trying to figure out what it was, realized it was a kia, they make such shit."

It was so random, i just replied with "ok." I'm not out to convince douches that they're wrong, believe in whatever the you want.

Why did you pay $50K?

I find the attitude strange which says, "I won't buy any car the first year it is out, only established models". If everyone had that perspective, the world would never see another new car. But when you read up on how Kia went about making this car it separates it from a lot of other introduced models. Most "new" models are just reworked existing platforms. The Stinger is new from the bottom up. Obviously the guy in the OP knows nothing about the Stinger Story. And the shitty comment is just rude. I ignore rude.

Why do you care what your boss thinks about what you drive?

Because I can afford it....Hello
Just saying $50k is too much. Picked up my GT2 for $45k. Hate to see people pay too much. Maybe your boss thinks youre a poor negotiator?

Thanx? for the condescending concern but in my world, 5k won’t make or break me....

Actually I don’t. Just like the uninformed general motoring public, he saw my car and couldn’t figure out what kind of car it was. I love that about this car. He waited two days before he made his comment to me. I’m satisfied that his curiosity got the best of him

If you dont care, why are you trying to move him by way of a test drive?

OP:

I don't know why people are haranguing you about price; if you feel satisfied about the deal you made, that's all that matters.

As to the original post, people are simply uninformed about the car or holding on to past and pervasive critical thoughts of the brand. I'm in my mid-30's and remember when KIA first came to this country -- they ran Sephia ads showing college-age kids driving their cars through crop fields and otherwise beating on them with the statement at the end of the commercial: "with a car this cheap, why not buy two?" Sometimes it's hard to get past these memories and over brand image.

I'll be honest, KIA was never at the top of my list in my car shopping experience until the Stinger. My wife and I looked briefly at a Sportage years ago because I found the looks appealing, but we went way on the other side of the spectrum and ended up with a Volvo XC60 T6 -- she was not willing to entertain the KIA brand.

With this car, the professional reviews piqued my interest and caused me to test drive the car. I was cross shopping with Chevrolet SS, Alfa Romeo Giulia Ti, and Infiniti Q50. My wife felt the Chevrolet was too bland style-wise (truth be told, I wanted the SS because it *was* my Camaro with four doors), and the Giulia threw a confidence-deflating indicator light during the test drive. So between the Stinger and the Infiniti, I chose the Stinger. At the same price point, the Stinger is faster, roomier, and laden with more options. It does not have the brand cachet but, honestly, who cares? What matters is how the car makes you feel, and the Stinger has so far made me feel happy with the purchase.

Haters gonna hate.

I once swore I'd never buy an import after a big money experience with my '75 Saab EMS. Loved my Pontiacs which were all durable, faithful and repair-free for the most part. My G8 GT had 200,000 miles and never had a wrench on it -- even factory brake pads.

But the U.S. manufacturers quit building "my kind" of cars. I stumbled across the Stinger reviews (Edmunds, Motor Trend, C&D, Road & Track, etc.) and grabbed one. No regrets, no problems, 7K miles and a 10/100,000 power train warranty on those little turbos. Durable? Who knows. I'll find out because I don't buy cars to park in the driveway and show off to the neighbors.

When you factor in huge lease rebates and negotiating it was not much more than a Mazda 6. About $50 a month to be exact.

I’ll take that for rear wheel and 150 more hp and 100 more tqe.
